The underlying purpose of the Junior Varsity program at Prep is to not only to prepare the athletes for when they join the Varsity team, but also to build a camaraderie and a love for the game and school. These goals were gready surpassed. Preps Junior Varsity soccer team had a disappointing five scheduled games cancelled this season, but when they got a chance to hear that whisde blow they never let up. The team was explosive scoring an average of 3.6 goals game and only letting up one a game. The offensive was catapulted by sophomore co-captain Paul Ascenio, who not only scored sixteen goals but also six assists. Also adding to the offensive firepower was the midfield, featuring the relentless hustle of sophomore Ed Ryan, and the ball skills of freshman Dan Hazard. Defense was spear ended by co-captain Todd Schild and by stand out goalie Ben Tamberella. The team had a strong grasp in the county, capturing the JV championship, and punished both Hudson Catholic and last years JV tournament winner Dickenson - twice a piece. Success is also imminent in the future as there are many core players that will thrive for Prep in the ensuing years.
