KERALA TO HOST CBL IN 2019

Taking a cue from the Indian Premier League format, The Kerala Government is all set to make its popular boat races into a world level event by introducing Champions Boat League (CBL) this year.

The move also focuses to attract more tourists at the thin season of tourism to the state by organizing a sporting atmosphere for participating clubs and their oarsmen.

The CBL will start on 10th August with the prestigious Nehru Trophy Boat Race in Alappuzha and end with the President’s Trophy Boat Race in Kollam on November 1, with 12 races during the intervening weekends.

All races are scheduled to be held in the afternoon between 2.30 pm and 5 pm.

The winning team will get a cash prize of Rupees 25 Lakh, while those standing on the second and third position will get Rupees 15 Lakh and Rupees 10 Lakh respectively.

The Kerala State Tourism Department said that they are waiting for entities to come forth with their proposal to execute, manage and promote CBL for the next five years whose selection will be done through bidding.

The Tourism Minister of Kerala Kadakampally Surendran informed that the CBL will have nine teams.

He said further,” “We want the CBL to be a world-class tourism product capable of attracting thousands of tourists.

Further, the league championship will help boat clubs financially. The players become more skilled. That will inspire a whole new generation of them,” he said. Furthermore, the CBL will help in bringing in tourists during the rainy season, which is usually considered a lean period for the tourism industry.

The CBL will be held in the Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kollam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram districts.

The Nehru Trophy will be the qualifying boat race for selection of the CBL’s teams.

The sport of shooting is all set to get unprecedented television coverage following a major broadcasting deal with a permanent broadcaster partner in India.

With the commencement of forthcoming Shooting World Cup starting from 21st February, the shooting has got Sony pictures as its permanent broadcaster.

“Sony will be covering the World Cup. Doordarshan will also broadcast. Since the World Cup is an ISSF event, the world body has signed the deal with Sony Television not only for this World Cup but other World Cups as well,” said the president of the National Rifle Association

During the press interaction, the NRAI president also declares that a lot of national shooting associations will be coming with their presidents to watch the World Cup, including the ones from Gautemala, Mexico and Russia. Singh said the range was getting ready to

host the World Cup, especially with a nice setting in the final hall. “We are not taking any funds from the government for organising the event, and the ISSF is taking care of the production cost of the television coverage,” he said.

The NRAI president also expressed hope that in the long run, the national championships would have television coverage. He said there was considerable potential to take the sport forward as 7,000 athletes competed in the last national championships.According to the shooting experts the Indian shooters had a good chance for the winning 14 quota places during the World Cup in Delhi.

YUWA NGO WINS LAUREUS SPORT OF GOOD AWARD Yuwa, a Jharkhand based NGO Which works for women empowerment has won the Laureus Sport of Good award, becoming the third entry into the list of Honor.

The NGO was founded by American Franz Gastler and Rose Thomson Gastler in 2009 with an objective of strengthening the status of women in India, undertakes a football programme in rural Jharkhand covering 450 girls.

Out of the amateur girls’ footballer group, experienced ones are promoted by making them coaches.

A bunch of four shining footballers out of a brigade of 450 girls, Hima, Nita, Radha and Konica have been selected to receive the award on behalf of YUWA at The Laureus World Sports Awards scheduled on 17th February, 2019.

Erstwhile, Marking its maiden entry in to the Laureus Awards in the year of 2004, an Indian sporting team and its Pakistani counterpart shared the Sport of Good Honour for resuming ties despite tensions between two countries.

In a recent past, Magic Bus from India won the Laureus sport for Good Award in 2014.

On Sunday, none other than legendary coach Arsene Wenger kicked football with the young Indian girls ahead of the announcement.

“They are good technically and want to play together. We used to say football is a sport played by 11 selfish individuals but they play like a team and are highly

motivated,” said Wenger.

Five-time Olympic champion swimmer Missy Franklin too was inspired by the story of the Indian girls who come from humble backgrounds and from a region where child marriage is prevalent.

“It is just so inspiring to hear their story and meet them. I am glad I could spend some time with them,” said the 23-yearold Franklin, who took a shock retirement from the sport in December last year.

‘SAI’ RENAMED AS ‘SPORTS INDIA’

After a deliberate hour-long meeting between Sports Ministry and SAI officials at the Shashtri Bhawan, the name of the Indian apex body of sports got renamed from SAI to ‘Sports India’.

The meeting in which the name was renamed was presided by the Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

In order to officially announce the new name of the SAI, there is yet one step to follow which is to notify the Registrar of Societies about the change of name. The remaining step can take a week or so for a full final changing of the name.

The Highest National Sports Body was Established under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in the Country.

At present, SAI houses 2 Sports Academic Institutions, 14 centre of Excellence and 10 SAI regional centres, 56 Sports Training Centre besides 20 Special Area Games Centers. In addition to that, The Apex Body of Indian sports also manages Five Stadiums in Delhi along with the Netaji Subhas High Altitude Training Centre at Shilaroo, Himachal Pradesh.

STAR SPORTS CHANNEL TO BE IN BANGLA THIS MARCH Introducing six new packs with a different pricing structure, the television Broadcaster Star India disclosed its plan to launch Star Sports 1 Bangla on or before 31st of March.

All new six packs will include Bengali Hindi Premium, Bengali Hindi Premium HD, English Mini, English Mini HD, English Premium and Bengali Premium HD. The price set for Bengali Hindi Premium and Bengali Hindi Premium HD packs are allotted as rupees 85 and 130 respectively. Star Sports 1 Bangla will be the fourth regional channel in their channel’s roster following network’s regional Sports Channel including Star Sports 1 Tamil, Star Sports 1 Telugu and Star Sports 1 Kannada. It should be noted that the Star Sports 1 Telugu and Star Sports 1 Kannada have been launched last year in the month of November-December. Becoming the 11th HD screen in Star Sports portfolio, Star Sports 1 Bangla will be a paid channel which will available at rupees 19 per month of subscription. Adding this one, now Star India will be having 37 HD Channels including 11 Sports channel. The two bouquets have Bengali, Hindi, English entertainment and movie channels apart from sports and infotainment channels. The English Mini Pack priced Rs 20 comprises of channels like Star Movies, Star World, and Fox Life. The English Mini HD has HD versions of Star Movies, Star World, and Fox Life and is priced at Rs 35.

The English Premium and English Premium HD packs have English entertainment/ movies, sports, and infotainment channels. The English Premium SD pack is priced at Rs 49 while the English Premium HD Pack is priced at Rs 85.

BWF MULLS TO REPLACE 'BIRD’S SHUTTLECOCK’

How about replacing goose bird’s feather designed shuttle cock for the game of badminton with a more durable and cost-effective synthetic shuttlecock option saving these poor birds?

In order to bring a major change in the way of conducting international badminton championship, the Badminton World Federation is undertaking a series of experiments in order to devise something more durable and cost effective option in matters of Badminton shuttles. They are undertaking experiments with the prototype synthetic shuttlecock in a bid to replace the conventional goose feather shuttles.

The new proposed shuttle if get passed the tests and scrutiny, will make the sport of shutters way far cost effective featuring more uniformity in the shuttle cocks. However, there is still time when the final outcome will decide the future of conventional feather shuttlecocks in the

international level badminton matches.

As of now, the BWF is testing the prototype synthetic shuttlecock in lower-ranked tournaments like the international series.

Malaysian legend Lee Chong Wei has mixed response for the new products after

having been part of the trial process for the synthetic shuttles.

“A few of the top players have tested this synthetic shuttlecock and I was one of them. I tested it out in Dubai two years ago (prior to the World Tour Finals),” the three-time Olympic silver medallist has told The Star.

“It was not consistent then. Sometimes, it felt like the traditional shuttle but at times, it was not. I wasn’t comfortable. But I’m open to the idea of using the synthetic ones if it’s constantly experimented and tested thoroughly. The players should not feel the difference that much.”

The BWF has reportedly been testing the prototype synthetic shuttlecock in lower-ranked tournaments like the International Series.

With the success of the experiment, it will also put an end to the agony of these innocent geese as the feather is collected from live birds.

MYAS INAUGURATES NATIONAL LEVEL FINALS OF NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT FESTIVAL Minister calls upon the youth to recognize their strength and create a New India.

Minister of State (I/C) for Youth Affairs and Sports & Information and Broadcasting Col Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd) inaugurated the National Level Finals of National Youth Parliament Festival at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will confer the National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 awards to the winners on 27th February, 2019 at Vigyan Bhawan.

Congratulating the participants, who are the winners at the state level competition, Col. Rathore called upon the youth to recognize their strength and create a New India. He said that India has a large young population, and everyone has one or the other speciality/quality.

What is needed is to identify, harness and promote it. He said youth in National Youth Parliament Festival have come from the nook and corner of the country, with different background and culture, but they have the same identity, and that is they all are Indians and have respect for the Indian tricolour. The Minister said that diversity makes India more beautiful, powerful and wonderful. Referring to dastardly attack on security forces in Pulwama, he said that martyrs belonged to different states, castes and religions, but all made supreme sacrifice for the motherland. Shri Rathore said that the security forces imbibe the spirit of sacrifice, discipline, dedication and dutifulness, and it is need of the hour that youth of the country also inculcate these virtues.

Col Rathore said that over 25 crore young people are associated through digital India, and they all can promote the message of Unity through digital means. Whatever be our differences and ideology, the unity of the country should never be endangered. He said that the country is changing fast and in positive direction, and if we are united, no one can harm us. Developing India can progress further if we overcome our differences and work in unison. He called upon the youth to follow the ideals of our national and patriotic leaders like Shivaji and Maharana pratap, so that the

future generations can remember the contributions of the present youth in nation building. Referring to the inauguration of the War memorial by hon’ble prime Minister yesterday, Col. Rathore said that those who remember their brave hearts, never fall short. He called upon the youth to put stamp on the rapid strides being made by the nation in all fields. He said that the country is progressing under the best leadership, and impossibilities are being converted into possibilities.

Prime Minister in his Mann Ki Baat address, had shared his idea of organizing Youth Parliaments for young people in every district of the country. It is to provide a chance to the youth to brainstorm about new India and to find ways and chalk out plans to realize our resolves before 2022.

He reiterated his idea to capture the voice of the youth in his address to the youth during the 22nd National Youth Festival on 12th January 2018.

National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 has been jointly organised by National Service Scheme (NSS) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, on the theme of “Be the Voice of New India” and “Find solutions and contribute to policy”.

Youth in the age bracket of 18-25 years were invited to participate in the District, State and National level Youth Parliaments.

The National Youth Parliament Festival 2019 was conducted at the District and

State levels. The participants for District Youth Parliament, (DYP) were selected through two screening processes i.e.

Digital and Walk-in screenings in Nodal Institution in 471 designated districts across the country from 24th to 28th January.

The best three speakers selected by a Jury from each District Youth Parliament participated at the State Youth Parliament (SYP). Similarly, the two best speakers selected from each SYP participated as speakers in the National Youth Parliament (NYP) on 26th February, 2019. As many as 28 State Youth Parliaments were held across the country from 5th to 7th February to select 56 final contestants for NYP. The best three speakers at the National Youth Parliament will be awarded Rs. 2 Lakhs, Rs. 1.50 Lakhs and Rs. 1 Lakh respectively in order of merit along with a certificate by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

More than 50 thousand youth participated through Youth Parliaments at all levels and the narrative will be strengthened and made more vibrant by their voices and ideas and suggestions. The National Youth Parliament Festival also encourages the youth to engage with public issues, understand the common man’s point of view, form their opinion and express these in an articulate manner.

It captures relevant and effective voices on the vision of New India and these are made available to policy makers and implementers to take them forward.

ODISHA GOVT OPENS 5-HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRES The Odisha government is leaving no stone unturned in transforming their state into a best in class sports organising state, by hosting major International tournaments like recently concluded 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup and others indigenous leagues. The state has recently also tied up with Abhinav Bindra, who has opened his first (Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance) ATBP centre in Odisha a few days before.

In order to keep the momentum in tune promoting sports and sporting culture in Odisha, the Odisha State government launched five high-performance centres and supporting professionals like Anil Kumble and Pullea Gopichand.

The facilities include some international level Badminton, athletics, weightlifting and Football centres.

Speaking after the launch Naveen Patnaik dedicated the centres to the “sports loving people of Odisha” and termed the day as “historic” for sports.

“Today is a historic day for sports development in Odisha.

As a state that’s passionate about sports, we understand how beneficial, the opening of these high-performance

centres is going to be for sportspeople as well as the nation,” Patnaik said.

“I am delighted to dedicate these centres to the sports loving people of Odisha,” he added.

The chief minister also felicitated 162 outstanding state sportspersons, who bought accolades for Odisha, with cash awards. These sportspersons belong to different categories and made a mark

with their remarkable performances throughout the year at different national and international events. ABHINAV BINDRA GETS ITS ATBP CENTRE IN ODISHA

The chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik inaugurated state’s first and country's fourth Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance (ATBP) centre at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar.

The ATBP Centre which focuses to produce high-end generation in the field of clinical fitness, sports science and rehabilitation and it will be the most advanced centre among existing other Indian centres. With the institution of the centre, Bhubaneswar will be the fourth city following Mohali, Delhi and Bengaluru to have such facilities for creating much sports fitness awareness.

At the one end, where the ATBP centre will offer technical help and expertise prematurely physiotherapy and rehabilitation on the other end the state government pledged to meet all requirement all necessary infrastructure.

MINI STADIUM COMPLEX INAUGURATED AT AYMANAM MM Mani the Kerala State Minister of Electricity inaugurated the construction Work of Mini Stadium Complex at Aymanam In Kerala. While addressing the event, the minister said Development of stadiums across the state as part of the government’s policy initiative will help mould sporting talents as the grass root levels.He also applauded the crucial effort of the local legislator Suresh Kurup, MLA in clinging the project, Kerala Minister Mani said further that the intervention of legislators is a key factor in facilitating sporting projects like this in their respective constituencies. Coming under the

Government’s policy of developing sports infrastructure across the state Kerala, the stadium has been planned to push forward the sporting aspirants at the grass roots level. The inauguration function which was presided by the local MLA Suresh Kurup was also attended by the President of District Panchayat, Sunny Pambadi.

Suresh Kurup also said he will try to set up swimming pools in the area with the use of development funds allotted to the area, provided that the local Panchayat handed over the land for that.

Proposed in the 2016-17 modified budget, The Mini Stadium Complex was proposed

in the 2016-17 modified budget as one of the projects of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board(KIIFB). The Mini Stadium complex project with a worth of Rupees 5.17 crore is planned to land up at the 1.018 acre of land of Aymanam Village Panchayat.

An indoor stadium with two badminton courts and one volleyball court, changing rooms for men and women, office room, toilets, and locker facility will be available in the complex. KITCO Ltd will be constructing the stadium complex under the technical supervision of the Engineering Department of Sports and Youth Affairs.

EUROPE TO GET FIRST 5G CONNECTED STADIUM Europe’s one of the largest stadiums, Nou Camp is all set to be first 5G network stadium.

La Liga major soccer club Barcelona has revealed that the Nou Camp will become first Europe Soccer stadium after being equipped with a devoted 5G network.

The 5G Stadium-Immersive Reality project was introduced at the Mobile World Congress. The project was a part of an association between Spanish telecommunication major company Telefonica and Mobile operator ecosystem GSMA with an objective to create more immersive broadcast experiences for fans.

With the enactment of the project, there will be numerous wireless 360-degree cameras connected to the 5G network which will be installed at different locations around the Nou Camp including next to the goal and near the dugouts.

Once 360-cameras installation accomplishes, it will allow fans watching football match sitting at home to experience the match using their Virtual reality glasses and enjoy actions of match as if they were in the stadium. In functional training your several muscle groups work simultaneously delivering a full body regime taking lesser time than a traditional strength training session. You can train with equipment such as kettle bells, cable columns, resistance bands or dumbbells or without. You can workout at home. Traditional strength training works isolated muscle groups and does not mimic real life sport or daily movements .

Plus if the doctor advices are taken and a good dose of supplement in terms of multi-vitamin is included in our diet then, I think we are doing a great job in maintaining a good supply of nutrition.

Functional Training and Functional Fitness are just synonyms, I feel because when we are talking about Functional Fitness it is basically how the body moves and our movement which are derived from our daily life. So when we talk of Squat or Lunge, we basically using the same bodily movement for sitting, standing, walking, running and so these become functional movement and Functional fitness comes with functional training being a part of your exercise routine. So every move or exercise that derives itself from daily life movements helps you to better move in life. So yes they go hand in hand.

There are many good reputed institutes in India and outside offering courses. It is always advisable to educate yourself in the field that you want to work in and of course at the end of the day it’s your work and your talents which combines you for a ride to long-term financial, commercial journey. If you are looking for that angle then yes, I think its hard work, talent and consistency that act as a coach and pays off in the long-term. I think courses are quite worthwhile to invest in the institutes which are accredited by the national and international agencies and have recognized certification.

It seems your suggested diet chart majorly How do you organize, plan and priorities concentrates for vegan so what do you your work being a fitness consultant and suggest for those who are not vegans? a mother of two kids?

Well, I don’t design any diet plan for any vegan per se, my personal philosophy is basically managing your calories with food derived from all food groups. Calories comes from all food, so I don’t remove any food group or any particular veg or non-veg carbs, protein etc. It’s a well-balanced healthy meal plan that I design.

Yes, I am a single mother of two and kids are major responsibilities especially because I have a twelve standard boards appearing daughter and have a son who is seven, so yes they demand a lot out of me in terms of physical attention and physical presence. For my work schedule, my work is majorly online with my clients, I train very specific select few clients in personal training at my studio. UEFA has launched a new UEFA Champions League service on WeChat – the Chinese multi-purpose messaging and social media app. This is UEFA’s latest foray into the Chinese social media market, after officially relaunching its UEFA Champions League Weibo account in November.

The WeChat and Weibo platforms will offer users premium UEFA Champions League content, personalised for the Chinese market. Chinese football fans will be able to enjoy content such as classic UEFA Champions League moments, star player interviews and profiles, official data analysis and highlights plus much more.

PHONEPE ASSOCIATES WITH DREAM 11 The Indian Payment gateway, PhonePe has roped in a partnership deal with Dream11. Being a live associate of the Fantasy gaming platform, PhonePe is live and first to offer direct UPI payments solutions on the Dream11 platform. The users will also get to avail a 30% cashback on 3 transactions up to INR 75 on using PhonePe as a payment option on the Dream11 app, the company said in a statement.

Commenting on the partnership, Ankit Gaur, Director – Online Business, PhonePe, said, “We are very excited to partner with Dream 11, the country’s biggest sports game. Over the last few years, Dream11 has seen phenomenal growth with a constantly growing user base. In order to keep abreast with the rising popularity of eSports, the international regulatory body of football FIFA is all set to announce another tournament in the gaming genre. The proposed tournament is scheduled to be held between national teams at the inaugural eNations Cup starting from 13-14th April as a part of invite-only exhibition event. eNations Cup will Introduce a new format featuring national teams and member associations competing against each other in a team competition on the road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2019. A toll of sixteen national teams representing whole FIFA’s confederation includesConmebol, CAF, OFC, AFC, UEFA and Concacaf.

The eNations Cup which is operated by EA Sports is one of three events hosted by the football association with the FIFA 19 Global Series. In the wake of finding and selecting right players to represent their country; the competing countries have been given options to host a championship on their own to find new talent. Each of the sixteen teams will have two players (presumably one for each console) which are chosen by the nations from qualifier tournaments

The inaugural event will be an exhibition series designed to introduce a new format of national teams and member associations competing against each other on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup. AGASSI INTRODUCES AI-BASED START UP IN INDIA Andre Agassi former tennis champion, who has clinged eight grand slam titles, has launched his artificial-intelligence based literary products brand Square Panda in India. Being one of the major investors of the California based startup which works for special children braving Dyslexia, Agassi has introduced company’s Indian operation.

In the past six years, Agassi posing as a great philanthropist has donated more than $1 billion (via a fund) to set up 90 charter schools across the US. “My lack of education was probably the greatest vehicle to my commitment and interest in the education sector,” Agassi has told a leading business daily on the sidelines of the launch of Square Panda’s India operations in Mumbai. Agassi didn’t attend school beyond eighth standard for pursuing tennis. “No education, forced to play tennis, and no choice,” laments one of the most successful tennis icons ever. “So, I always correlate ‘no education’ with ‘no choice’. This led me to disconnect with my own sport, even though I was the best in the world. Education endows you with choice,” he said in exclusive interview with the paper.
