Welcome to the start of NASC 2.0 “A record setting Year!”

NASC 2.0 starts in Minneapolis. With the tremendous support of Sports Minneapolis, our committees, sponsors and staff, we begin the historical transformation of our association.

This is our largest attended Symposium in the history of our association and a direct result of the great momentum created with our recent changes, enhanced educational offerings: 4S Summit, Chief Executive Summit, and Women’s Summit, and shift towards more transparency and better servicing all members.

Over the last year, we spent countless hours listening to our members across the country to learn more about the products, services, and programs that are most important to you.

From a nearly 200 members participating in a town hall on rebranding our association, to countless discussions with a wide number of industry leaders in sports events and tourism, we used your feedback as a basis of a transformative repositioning of our association. This included a comprehensive rewrite of our bylaws to support our new direction.

The repositioning supports our new brand promise and value proposition with programs for all members: destinations, industry partners, and rights holders, equally. We will support each group with a wider, deeper, and more inclusive level of content and service, with a new mission, vision, organizational beliefs, and our 4 pillars of excellence (education, advocacy, resources and networking) serving as our guide.

Minneapolis and Minnesota shined with the 2018 Super Bowl and served as the source for many of the US Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Gold Medalists. We have included vestiges of those successes utilizing some of the participants to enhance our content. You will have the opportunity to experience the site of Super Bowl LII from the ground floor.

Our educational content is among the best available in the sports events and tourism industry, with several subject matter experts sharing their insights. Those discussions are giving rise to a tremendous opportunity to establish deep working partnerships that bring more value and new products and services to our members.

MCC, 101C What do a professor, medical doctor, attorney, and gamer have to do with NASC? All are represented as your instructors for the 2018 CSEE session in Minneapolis. Based on member feedback, this session will focus on both ESport and Contemporary Medical Issues relevant to you and your events. You can expect to leave the session with: 1. A better understanding of ESports and ESports events.

2. The ability to make educated decisions on Esports events for your market.

3. An overview of health and wellness implications for today’s youth associated with proliferation of Esport.

4. Guidelines on best practices in providing medical support to sport events.

5. Budget reducing strategies on strengthening your relationship with your local medical community for event support.

6. An overview of hot medical issues to stay current on in youth and participant sport events.

Dress for Your Curling Event • Bring along a clean pair of shoes. Athletic shoes are a good choice. It is extremely important to keep the ice clean.

• Dress comfortably. Jeans are difficult – wear loose fitting clothes as you will be in lunge positions.

• The curling arena is about 40F. Consider a winter hat, gloves and a warm jacket or hoodie.

• Curling is played 4 against 4. Games can be modified if you have a team of 3 (or even 5). To save time, have your teams or tournaments set prior to arriving.

Typically one team will play another team for the entire duration and you will get about 5 or 6 ends in (each end, like an inning in baseball, takes about 15 minutes).

If you are running a tournament or want to play different opponents, note that a “game” will probably be one or two ends.

Dr. Heather Lawrence-Benedict Dr. Heather Lawrence-Benedict is the Associate Dean of Graduate & Executive Education, Associate Professor of Sports Administration, and Robert H. Freeman Professor of Business in the College of Business at Ohio University. While previously serving as Director of the Professional Masters in Sports Administration program, the program earned the #1 Worldwide ranking by SportBusiness International in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016. She has published and presented in the areas of diversity and inclusion in sport, intercollegiate athletics finance, intercollegiate athletics leadership, and premium seating.

USA Badminton Booth #100 USA Badminton (USAB), the recognized national governing body for the sport of badminton in the United States, is headquartered at the United States Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado. USA Badminton oversees sanctioned tournaments nationwide, develops grassroots initiatives to foster increased participation in the sport, certifies and educates coaches and prepares the best players in the nation to excel in international competition, including the Olympic Games.

USAB sends teams to major international tournaments, including the Olympic Games, Pan American Games, World Championships, Sudriman Cup, Thomas and Uber Cup and World Junior Championships, to name a few. USAB also hosts major national events such as the US Adult National Championships, US Junior National Championships, and the US Senior National Championships. The organization also maintains the national player rankings, publishes educational materials on the sport and holds regular training camps and coaching clinics.USA Badminton boasts over 4,000 members nationwide and estimates many more thousands of recreational badminton players in the United States. A 2008 study by the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association reported that approximately 1,362,000 people play badminton frequently in the US. Badminton is truly a growing sport in the US as well as on the international level.

Event Owner Exhibitors USA South Athletic Conference Booth #132 One of the oldest Division III conferences in the nation, the USA South was born as the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1963 when six institutions with similar philosophies of academics and athletics joined as founding members. In February 2003, it was announced that the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference would change its name to the USA South Athletic Conference; becoming official in July 2003.
