We begin with the token New Year New Me resolutions, many of which don’t last until Super bowl weekend. We try the latest in fad diets, workout routines and attempt to set obtainable goals for the future. What we sometimes fail to see, is that were already in it. Take our cover model Tom Brady, yes that bad man is in the Super bowl again! I find myself astonished at the sustainability of not only his brilliance but competitive drive. It almost seems like we won’t truly understand how incredible he is, until the Patriots are not in the Playoffs. Why do we love to hate a man that has devoted every ounce of energy to the sport that we all admire so much? He’s not arrogant, he has no scandals, wonderful family man? Is Tom just to perfect that we can’t embrace him? We didn’t hate Jordan? Lebron? Babe Ruth? When the Patriots take on the Eagles it will just feel like another day the entire nation devotes to hating Tom & the Patriots (outside of New England of course), however we really should be sitting back and enjoying the fruits of labour of the greatest team sports player ever. We may never witness this again. Tom is the true testament to living in the now, make all the goals and resolutions you like, but its todays work that will define tomorrow. Whilst I admit the Eagles would be a great victory for the NFL, Tom vs Time is simply much better. It is with a true passion we welcome you to our first edition of 2018. Inside the issue we preview Super bowl LII and the historic milestones that may be accomplished in New England. We slide you backstage in Pyeongchang and deliver the excitement of the Winter Games, athlete profiles of who not to miss strive for the podium. We keep you informed on all the latest trends in fashion and tech, and we try take on the big question “should I have a Bitcoin”... Welcome to the Issue.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are preparing to play in their eighth Super Bowl together when the New England Patriots face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII on Feb. 4. The legendary quarterback/coach combination has had an unprecedented run of success, Tom and company did it again on Sunday by rallying from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter against Jacksonville to punch yet another ticket to the Super Bowl. It was deja vu for most Football fans, as the big B combo did it again. Just how dominating have Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots been over the years? Check out these eyepopping stats, facts, and figures.

GUIDE TO SUPER BOWL LII

On the first Sunday of February, we’re going to experience Super Bowl LII with both the No. 1 seeds from each NFL conference—the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.Being the one seed, you’re automatically the best team(s), right? That may be true for the Patriots, but with the Eagles, that hasn’t been the case. Since quarterback Carson Wentz tore his ACL back in Week 14, the Eagles’ chances were all but squashed. With Nick Foles at the helm, there was no possible way.Make it to the Super Bowl? Ha! Try beating the Falcons first. The Eagles were underdogs in that game, the NFC Championship with the Minnesota Vikings and now again against the Patriots.

The trophy stands 20.75 inches tall, weighs 107.3 ounces, and is valued in excess of $25,000. The words Vince Lombardi and Super Bowl LI are engraved on the base along with the NFL shield.

PATRIOTS VS EAGLES The New England Patriots will have their chance at ring No. 6 when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles, who will be playing for their first Lombardi trophy. Here’s an early look at the Matchups and odds on the final day of the National Football League.

NEW ENGL AND PATRIOTS REASONS TO BE EXCITED: Start with familiar faces on the opposite side who played a huge part in the Patriots’ Super Bowl win last year, running back LeGarrette Blount and defensive end Chris Long. They are thought of highly in New England and now to win another Super Bowl, the Patriots will have to stop them. And then consider this angle: When the Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years in the 2004 season, they beat the Eagles to do so. Now as they go for a third Super Bowl in four years, it is the Eagles again. Neat storyline. Finally, a Tom Brady vs. Nick Foles quarterback battle favors New England. REASONS TO BE CONCERNED: For those who believe “defense wins championships,” this isn’t good news for the Patriots. The defenses that have had the greatest success against the Patriots are those that can rush four and get pressure on Brady, while dropping seven into coverage. The Philadelphia defense has shown the ability to do so. PATRIOTS WILL WIN IF: They win the turnover differential. Arguably the most impressive statistic in the Bill Belichick era is the Patriots are 159-15 when they have a positive turnover differential (including playoffs). So always start there when it comes to the team’s chances at winning. X FACTOR: Danny Amendola, WR. Amendola has racked up 196 yards and two touchdowns on 18 grabs this postseason. It’s the route running, the quickness and the scheme in New England that makes him a prime X factor in the Super Bowl. Look at how the Patriots

create space inside of the numbers or focus on Amendola’s ability to shake coverage in a phone booth. This allows Brady to dice up the middle of the field on high-percentage throws in the short-to-intermediate passing game. And that’s a blueprint for success. BIG STAT: The Patriots are the first team with 10 Super Bowl appearances. They’re 5-4 in their previous nine. The Steelers, Cowboys and Broncos are tied for the secondmost appearances at eight apiece

PHIL ADELPHI A EAGLES REASONS TO BE EXCITED: They’ve proven they’re an elite team that is able to overcome any obstacle, no matter the circumstance. They lost franchise QB Carson Wentz, left tackle Jason Peters, running back Darren Sproles and linebacker Jordan Hicks before him, and still pushed through the NFC to reach

the Super Bowl for the third time in franchise history. REASONS TO BE CONCERNED: Well, there’s the whole Brady-Belichick thing. They’ve dominated the league for the past couple of decades, winning five championships. One came against the Eagles after the 2004 regular season. They’re going against legends, and doing so without their best player, Wentz. EAGLES WILL WIN IF: They’re able to pressure Brady with their fourman rush. Their D-line has been the team’s top strength over the course of the season. If defensive end Brandon Graham and defensive tackle Fletcher Cox are able to dominate, and defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz doesn’t have to bring many blitzes, the Eagles will be well-positioned to capture their first Lombardi Trophy. X FACTOR: Malcolm Jenkins, S.

Jenkins’ versatility should be on full display in what I expect to be an aggressive defensive game plan under Schwartz. Look for Jenkins to get some matchups against Rob Gronkowski. He has the skill set and the physicality to compete in coverage. And don’t forget about Jenkins coming hard off the edge in those Philadelphia blitz packages. Add in the ability to drop down as a run defender, and Jenkins can have a major impact against Brady and the Patriots’ offense. BIG STAT: There are several similarities between the 2017 Eagles and the franchise’s other two Super Bowl teams (2004 and 1980). All three started 10-1, set (or matched) franchise records in wins, finished in the top 10 in total offense and defense, lost their final game of the regular season and beat the Vikings in the playoffs.

The 2018 Winter Olympics are upon us, which means if you haven’t already, it’s now time to start counting up your sick days, scouring official schedules and figuring out which days you’ll be calling out of work. Or, if you don’t have any sick days left because flu season kicked your butt, you’ll need to start figuring out how to watch all the figure skating and curling you want from your desk while fooling your boss into thinking you’re actually working. Not that we would know much about that. Here’s everything you need to know to prepare yourselves for one of the greatest traditions in Winter Sport. 1. THE 2018 WINTER OLYMPICS WILL BE HELD IN PYEONGCH ANG, SOUTH KOREA This is the first time in 30 years that Korea has hosted the Olympics; Seoul hosted the Summer Games in 1988. While this is a fun fact that you can and definitely should bust out at viewing parties, it’s also important to know this because it obviously involves a major time difference.

South Korea is 14 hours ahead of New York and the rest of the Eastern timezone, meaning it is 17 hours ahead Los Angeles. If you want to watch events as they unfold in real time, you will need to plan ahead. 2. THE OLYMPICS WILL CONSUME YOUR LIFE FROM THURSDAY, FEB. 8 UNTIL SUNDAY, FEB. 25. Competition actually begins Thursday, Feb. 8 when curling and ski jumping kick off the festivities, but the opening ceremonies will take place the next day, Friday, Feb. 9. Events will continue until the closing ceremonies on Sunday, Feb. 25. 3. THE GAMES WILL BE BROADCAST ON NBC, BUT YOU CAN ALSO LIVESTREAM EVENTS NBC will broadcast the Games across all NBC Universal platforms (including NBCSN, USA, and The Olympic Channel) starting with the opening ceremony Friday, Feb. 9 at 8/7c. Of course, the events will be tape-delayed because of the aforementioned time difference, so you would be wise to check out NBC’s schedule to find out what

will be airing and when. If you, like Paula Cole, don’t want to wait, NBC will also host a livestream of their coverage of the games on its website as well as on the NBC Sports app. 4. THERE ARE JUST 15 SPORTS IN THE WINTER OLYMPICS While the Summer Games seem to have 100 different sports, the Winter Olympics have 15. On the slopes you’ll find alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, freestyle skiing, nordic combined, ski jumping, and snowboarding. Over on the ice, you’ll see curling, figure skating, ice hockey, short track speed skating, and speed skating. And last but not least, there are the sliding sports bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. 5. THERE ARE FOUR EVENTS M AKING THEIR OLYMPICS DEBUT IN PYEONGCH ANG Who doesn’t love new stuff? This winter you’ll see big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating and mixed team alpine skiing join the competition.

6. YOU SHOULD PROBABLY FAMILI ARIZE YOURSELF WITH THESE FOLKS: Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, who took home the top prize in Sochi at 18 to become the youngest Olympic slalom gold medalist, has been called the “the best slalom skier in the world.” In PyeongChang, she’ll be attempting to become the first person of any gender to repeat as Olympic slalom champion. Meanwhile, Gus Kenworthy, who took home the silver in the inaugural men’s ski slopestyle event at Sochi, is also returning. He made waves in 2015 when he became the first action-sports (vs. mainstream sports) star to come out as gay. Elsewhere, snowboarder Chloe Kim, 17, is poised to become a new Team USA favorite in her first Olympics. She actually qualified in 2014, but she could not compete because of her age. She is the heavy favorite to take home the gold in the halfpipe. Meanwhile, two-time gold medalist Shaun White, who finished fourth in the halfpipe in 2014, will attempt a shot at redemption after qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team earlier this month.

He is coming back from a serious injury he sustained in October. On the ice, watch out for rising star Nathan Chen, 18, the first male figure skater to land five quadruple jumps in a single performance. On the women’s side, Mirai Nagasu, who placed fourth at the 2010 Olympics but failed to make the team in 2014, will be going for the gold in PyeongChang. 7. THERE ARE 102 MEDALS UP FOR GRABS THIS YEAR If you’re reading this, it probably means you don’t stand a chance in winning a medal at the Olympics, which is a shame, because the PyeongChang medals are rather striking, especially compared to those from years past. 8. BOB COSTAS WON’T BE HOSTING THE OLYMPICS THIS YEAR It was announced in 2017 that Bob Costas, who has handled hosting duties for NBC’s Olympics coverage since 1992, is stepping down from the role to make way for sportscaster Mike Tirico, who joined NBC from ESPN, where he was the play-by-

play announcer for Monday Night Football. Who will we be without Bob Costas? We’ll soon find out. 9. THE NHL WILL NOT BE PARTICIPATING IN THE OLYMPICS The National Hockey League announced in 2017 that it will not allow players to participate in the 2018 Olympics, ending five consecutive Winter Olympics involving NHL players. The league did not want to include a 17-day break in the middle of the hockey season to allow for players to participate in the Winter Games, which will likely hurt both the U.S. and Canadian teams’ chances of taking home the gold. 10. RUSSI A IS BANNED FROM THE OLYMPICS In December, the International Olympic Committee announced it was barring Russia’s national Olympic committee from the 2018 Games as punishment for its alleged state-sponsored cover-up of athlete doping. However, select athletes will be able to compete under a neutral Olympic flag.

ATHLETES TO WATCH IN PYEONGCHANG LOWELL BAILEY

LINDSEY VONN

SPORT: ALPINE SKIING If you know the name of only one athlete representing the United States in Pyeongchang, it’s probably Lindsey Vonn, one of the top female athletes in America. This threetime Olympian has earned one gold medal and one bronze, and will try to return to the podium at the 2018 Winter Olympics. As reported Vonn has sustained many injuries over the course of her career, including a knee injury that sidelined her from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Vonn has had a decorated career and now will be among the oldest racers on the mountain, nearly all of the competitors who came into the sport when Vonn did are retired and, by a wide margin, the most accomplished.”

SH AUN WHITE

SPORT: SNOWBOARDING Another American athlete you’ll only hear more about once the 2018 Winter Olympics begin? Shaun White. White will be one of the most recognizable names in Pyeongchang, and it could be the last time that White competes for Olympic gold. His run at a fourth Olympic team almost ended before it began when in October, he slammed his face into the halfpipe at an Olympic superpipe in New Zealand. He needed more than 60 stitches and stayed for five days in the hospital. But White made a recovery from the brutal crash and will try to add to the two Olympic medals he’s already won.

SPORT: BI ATHLON Lowell Bailey was the first U.S. athlete to officially qualify for the 2018 Winter Olympics and the first biathlon world champion for the U.S. The three-time Olympian will try to win the U.S.’s first-ever Olympic biathlon medal in Pyeongchang. Bailey earned Team USA’s highestever finish in the Winter Olympics sport when he achieved eighth place in the men’s 20-kilometer in Sochi in 2014. In 2017, Bailey won the U.S.’s first world championship gold medal, and he hopes to make history again in Pyeongchang.

M AAME BINEY

SPORT: SHORT TRACK SPEED SKATING Maame Biney is another athlete to watch at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 17-year-old has already made history by becoming the first black woman to qualify for Team USA’s short track speed skating team. Biney became a “viral sensation” when she dominated the 500-meter races at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for speedskating. Plus, “her exuberant celebrations and giggly interview earned her legions of new fans.” Biney hails from Ghana, a country on the west side of Africa, and began taking skating lessons at age six, when she moved to Virginia.

JESSIE DIGGINS SPORT: CROSS COUNTRY SKIING World champion Jessie Diggins will lead the 2018 Winter Olympics cross-country skiing team in

Pyeongchang. Though the U.S. trails behind European nations in cross-country skiing, the women’s team has made significant strides in recent years. Diggins, along with teammate Kikkan Randall, made history by earning silver and bronze medals in the world championship sprints. Michael McKay reports that though Diggins likes to wear some glitter on her cheeks when she competes, she says there’s an old cross-country skiing stereotype she’d like to end. “We are not just spandex-wearing fairies gliding through the woods! Our sport can have some brutal crashes in the head-to-head sprint races or mass starts, and it’s aerobically the hardest sport there is.”

BRYAN AND TAYLOR FLE TCHER

SPORT: NORDIC COMBINED Brothers Bryan and Taylor Fletcher appeal as dominant figures in the Nordic combined for Team USA. Bryan, the older brother, overcame leukemia as a child. At that point in his life, he “found happiness in ski jumping,” according to previous interviews. Taylor, Bryan’s younger brother, followed Bryan into the sport of ski jumping before the siblings made their way into the Nordic combined. (The Nordic combined involves both ski jumping and cross-country skiing.) In 2014, both Fletchers competed in the Sochi Olympics. The brothers say that they enjoyed “healthy competition” with each other growing up. And sibling rivalry continues to motivate them as they prepare for Pyeongchang.

The main thing for Brazil is to hope that none of the team’s stars get injured in the process. Costa Rica will surprise, getting by Switzerland and Serbia to clinch a knockout-round berth. Switzerland, whose roster includes Premier League stars Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka, will then edge out Serbia for third place.

JUVENTUS V TOT TENH AM First leg Tuesday Feb 13 Second leg Wednesday March 7 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE JUVENTUS Winners in 1985 and 1996, Juventus have come close in recent years to adding a third European triumph to the honours board. However, despite being finalists in two of the past three seasons, the challenges of Barcelona and Real Madrid have proved a bridge too far. TOT TENH AM The quarter-finals in 2011 has been the best Spurs have had it in the Champions League, as an emerging Gareth Bale and wise Rafael van der Vaart starred. It is now over to the prolific Harry Kane and meticulous Christian Eriksen to push them further. PREDICTION Having topped a group with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund in it, Spurs would have hoped for a kinder tie. They have never faced Juventus before and are up against one of the Champions League’s wiliest team, though not (yet) the force of last season. But Spurs can do it. WINNER Tottenham Hotspur OUTRIGHT ODDS Juventus – 20/1 Tottenham – 25/1

BASEL V M AN CIT Y First leg Tuesday Feb 13 Second leg Wednesday March 7 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE BASEL Having reached the round of 16 for a third time, Basel will be looking to progress to the quarterfinals for the first time. Raphael Wicky’s men finished second in a group topped by Manchester United, a side they defeated at home on the fifth matchday.

M ANCHESTER CIT Y emphatically topped their group, with only the matchday six defeat away by Shakhtar Donetsk blotting their copy book and will be desperate to at least match their semi-final finish of 2016, in a competition their manager has won twice. PREDICTION City have been installed as Champions League favourites after the draw and it would be a major shock if they failed to get past the Swiss club. It is perhaps the kindest draw, not least in terms of travel and logistics, and while St Jakob-Park can create a hostile atmosphere, City will get through. WINNER Manchester City OUTRIGHT ODDS Basel – 500/1 Manchester City – 11/4 (favourites)

PORTO V LIVERPOOL First leg Wednesday Feb 14 Second leg Tuesday March 6 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE PORTO Winners under Jose Mourinho in 2004, the Portuguese heavyweights will be looking to go one better than last year, when defeated by eventual runners-up Juventus. They will be looking to capitalise on Liverpool’s far from watertight back line. LIVERPOOL Winners in 2005, it would take a huge turn in fortunes for Liverpool to repeat such a feat this time around. Despite putting seven past Maribor and Spartak Moscow, without reply, a late collapse at Sevilla and a turgid draw in Moscow suggest this will be tough for Jürgen Klopp’s men. PREDICTION Liverpool are unbeaten in their four previous meetings with Porto and will be happy with this draw. Porto

are back on top of the Portuguese league and undoubtedly carry a threat, having disposed of Monaco in the group stages, but Liverpool should progress, especially with the second leg at Anfield. WINNER Liverpool OUTRIGHT ODDS Porto – 100/1 Liverpool – 16/1

SEVILL A V M AN UTD First leg Wednesday Feb 21 Second leg Tuesday March 13 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE SEVILL A Entering last season’s competition having won the Europa League three times on the bounce, they failed to carry such form into Europe’s premier club competition. Defeat by Leicester City in the round of 16 marked their first European knockout loss in three seasons. M ANCHESTER UNITED Having topped their group, United will view this as a favourable draw, having avoided the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. But they will need to be at their best to beat technically adept opponents. PREDICTION The Spaniards have been cup specialists in recent seasons and have shown how dangerous they can be at home by pulling back a threegoal deficit against Liverpool while also drawing at Anfield. But they finished runners-up in that group and are not quite the force they were. United will relish the tie. WINNER Manchester United OUTRIGHT ODDS Sevilla – 100/1 Manchester United – 14/1

SH AKHTAR DONE TSK V ROM A First leg Wednesday Feb 21 Second leg Tuesday March 13

EUROPEAN PEDIGREE SH AKHTAR Donetsk Having won all three home matches in the group stage, Shakhtar finished second in Group F behind Manchester City. They did overcome the group winners on matchday six, as they reached the knockout stage for the first time since 2015 ROM A The Italian club defied the odds to top a group ahead of Chelsea and last year’s semi-finalists Atlético Madrid. Victory at home over the Blues, combined with an exciting 3-3 draw at the Bridge sit as standout results, helping to produce a winnable round-of-16 tie. PREDICTION As the Ukrainians showed in finishing ahead of Napoli, and beating Manchester City, they are a dangerous side with an excellent coach in Paulo Fonseca. But Roma also performed impressively as they finished ahead of Chelsea and were unlucky not to beat them away, as well as at home. Could be a tight tie. WINNER Roma OUTRIGHT ODDS Shakhtar Donetsk – 100/1 Roma – 50/1

CHELSEA V BARCELON A First leg Tuesday Feb 20 Second leg Wednesday March 14 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE CHELSEA Winners in 2012 under Roberto Di Matteo, Chelsea remarkably defeated their roundof-16 opponents at the semi-final stage that term. However, in recent years, last-16 exits at the hands of Paris St-Germain make that final triumph over Bayern seem a distant memory. BARCELON A Boasting five European Cups, a team spearheaded by the mercurial Lionel Messi will be determined to better their last-16

exits of the past two campaigns. Winners most recently in 2015, Barcelona topped their group unbeaten, ahead of Juventus. PREDICTION Chelsea have a history of epic battles with Barcelona, not least in beating them to reach the 2012 Champions League final. Neither club will have wanted this draw and it could easily go either way. But Chelsea could well pay the price for not winning their group, especially if Lionel Messi can finally score against them. WINNER Barcelona OUTRIGHT ODDS Chelsea – 25/1 Barcelona – 7/1

REAL M ADRID V PSG First leg Wednesday Feb 14 Second leg Tuesday March 6 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE REAL M ADRID European pedigree should be followed by, see Real Madrid. The 12-time winners also became the first team to successfully defend the European Cup in its modern format last May. However, a tough test lies ahead after a substandard group stage, remembered for that sobering defeat at Wembley. PARIS ST-GERM AIN With domestic troubles non-existent, the Parisians topped their group, having only fell to defeat on the final matchday at Bayern Munich. Thumping defeats over Celtic home and away, whilst eye-catching, must now transform into knockout prowess, if anything to banish the memory of last year’s exit at the hands of Barcelona. PREDICTION Undoubtedly the tie of the round, a truly heavyweight contest with the holders against the young pretenders. Mbappe v Ronaldo. Neymar v Bale. Cavani v Benzema.

PSG need to exercise last season’s traumatic exit against Barcelona and what better way to do it, even if Real will be regarded as favourites. Could be a goal-fest. WINNER Paris St-Germain OUTRIGHT ODDS Real Madrid – 7/1 Paris St-Germain – 5/1

BESIKTAS V BAYERN MUNICH First leg Tuesday Feb 20 Second leg Wednesday March 14 EUROPEAN PEDIGREE BESIKTAS Hailing from Istanbul, Besiktas have emerged from the shadows of near-city rivals to top their group. Knocked out at that stage in both 2007 and 2009, on this occasion they did not to look back after a 3-1 victory away to Porto. BAYERN MUNICH Following heartbreak in 2012 when they lost the final in their own backyard, Bayern are seeking their sixth European Cup, following victory a year later at Wembley. Having drawn one of the most sought-after sides at this stage, there will be an expectation to match semi-final finishes of the past three campaigns. PREDICTION Make no mistake, Besiktas are dangerous as they showed in winning their group ahead of Porto, RB Leipzig and Monaco, and the Turkish side also travel far better than they used to. But Bayern appear back on track under Jupp Heynckes, although not quite the force of old, and should have too much class and know-how. WINNER Bayern Munich OUTRIGHT ODDS Bayern Munich – 5/1 Besiktas – 200/1

NBA

APART

The Warriors are essentially the Super Model in the playground that all the Boys know about in High School. They will all turn on you for a shot at the hot date. The Warriors are so hot, they have the NBA falling apart. The Cleveland Cavaliers are fighting and blaming Kevin Love, the San Antonio Spurs are "disconnected" from Kawhi Leonard, and the Milwaukee Bucks fired Jason Kidd, which "devastated" Giannis Antetokounmpo. Those are just three major storylines of the last week. The Washington Wizards had a team meeting that didn't solve anything, and then were blown out by the Dallas Mavericks as Mavs point guard J.J. Barea said nobody likes John Wall. Damian Lillard had a meeting with Portland Trail Blazers owner Paul Allen to ensure the team is focused on winning. The NBA has had several on-court altercations in the past two weeks, highlighted by the Houston Rockets confronting the Los Angeles Clippers in the Clippers' locker room. Elsewhere, teams like the Charlotte Hornets are considering blowing it up and trading Kemba Walker, though team owner Michael Jordan may not be fully on board. In the midst of all of this, the Golden State Warriors say they need to "reset." The Warriors' drama is different from other teams. The Warriors aren't perfect, but they're close to it. Teams with championship aspirations often drag through the regular season as they await the postseason when things really begin. But the Warriors aren't even most championship teams. They're first in offensive rating and fifth in defensive rating, and their net rating the total by which they outscore teams per 100 possessions is still the best in the league.

But head coach Steve Kerr sees some problems with his team. When the Warriors lost to the Rockets, they turned the ball over 19 times and sent the Rockets to the free throw line 29 times. That's sloppy, and the Warriors have always battled sloppiness. Yet Kerr's reaction to it tells you all you need to know about the Warriors. Kerr said with this team, he doesn’t care about individual games. He cares about trends. And too many turnovers has been a trend recently. So, Kerr told reporters, he sees a trend with his team and it's time to "reset" and get them back on track. "There are key points in the year where we have to hit the reset button in terms of our priorities and now is one of those times," Kerr said. "This is an important week for us in a standpoint of we need to take care of the ball, we need to be smart, make good decisions. If we do that, we're really really hard to beat." Kerr has echoed similar sentiments before. He said on "The Bill Simmons Podcast" in December that he was expecting his team go through ebbs and flows. "It's just human nature. The motivation wanes a little bit, and the edge, you lose your edge," Kerr said, adding that the team doesn't have much internal drama. "There's a malaise that has settled in," Kerr said. "It's a long way off until the playoffs start and we just don't have that same edge that we've had the last couple years. And I'm perfectly fine with it because, like I said, it's human nature and we've got to kind of in some ways pace ourselves and get to the end of the year." It's worth considering what that "malaise" is, though. Since beginning the season 4-3, the Warriors have gone 33-7. Two weeks ago they outclassed their biggest rivals, the Cavaliers, who appear to be falling

apart and going through the exact type of slog that Kerr described. The Warriors can't get too comfortable, and Kerr knows that. The Rockets do appear to be a potential threat to the Warriors, the Spurs will always be around, and talented teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves are jelling and starting to improve. But at a time when drama seems to be pervading through the league, it's hardly noticeable that the league's clearcut best team is cruising right along, even if Kerr doesn't think so. The Golden State Warriors are so dominant, they have the entire NBA turning themselves upside down to try and beat them. Its bad for Basketball, bad for Business and bad for ratings.

NBA ALL-STAR ROSTERS 2018: STARTERS, RESERVES AND REACTION The complete pool of participants for the 2018 NBA All-Star Game has been set after the head coaches' reserve picks were unveiled last Tuesday. New York Knicks power forward Kristaps Porzingis and Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook headline the Eastern and Western Conference benches, respectively, which are each comprised of two backcourt players, three frontcourt players and two wild-card selections. Here's a look at the full list of selections for both conferences: EASTERN CONFERENCE • Starter: Kyrie Irving, G, Boston

• • •

• • • • •

Celtics Starter: DeMar DeRozan, G, Toronto Raptors Starter: LeBron James, F, Cleveland Cavaliers (Captain) Starter: Giannis Antetokounmpo, F, Milwaukee Bucks Starter: Joel Embiid, C, Philadelphia 76ers Reserve: Kyle Lowry, G, Toronto Raptors Reserve: Bradley Beal, G, Washington Wizards Reserve: John Wall, G, Washington Wizards Reserve: Victor Oladipo, G, Indiana Pacers

• Reserve: Kevin Love, F, Cleveland Cavaliers • Reserve: Kristaps Porzingis, F, New York Knicks • Reserve: Al Horford, C, Boston Celtics WESTERN CONFERENCE • Starter: Stephen Curry, G, Golden State Warriors (Captain) • Starter: James Harden, G, Houston Rockets • Starter: Kevin Durant, F, Golden State Warriors • Starter: Anthony Davis, F, New Orleans Pelicans • Starter: DeMarcus Cousins, C, New Orleans Pelicans • Reserve: Damian Lillard, G,

Portland Trail Blazers • Reserve: Klay Thompson, G, Golden State Warriors • Reserve: Jimmy Butler, G, Minnesota Timberwolves • Reserve: Russell Westbrook, G, Oklahoma City Thunder • Reserve: LaMarcus Aldridge, F, San Antonio Spurs • Reserve: Draymond Green, F, Golden State Warriors • Reserve: Karl-Anthony Towns, C, Minnesota Timberwolves Arguably the most notable reserve selections were Golden State Warriors teammates Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Thanks to their nods, the defending champions became the first team in league history to boast four All-Stars in consecutive seasons. The most glaring omission was Thunder forward Paul George. Who is a clear candidate for Defensive Player of the Year averaging 20.8/5.5/3.0 on 44/43/81 shooting splits, on the West’s fifth-seed. I just don’t see how that’s not an All-Star. Incidentally, Victor Oladipo who was shipped to the Indiana Pacers

as part of a package for George in June was named to his first All-Star Game. Entering Tuesday night, the 25-year-old is averaging a careerhigh 24.2 points per game on 48.4 percent shooting from the field and 40.2 percent from three. George's teammate Carmelo Anthony was left off the list as well, marking the first time since 2009 that he will be absent from the proceedings. Los Angeles Clippers guard Lou Williams and Detroit Pistons big man Andre Drummond were also snubbed and made their feelings known via social media. With reserves finalized, the two AllStar captains, Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James and Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will choose their respective squads from the remaining 22 players available in a playground-style draft. The order of the captains' picks will not be made public, as commissioner Adam Silver has stated, but Curry has gone on the record and said he will select teammate Kevin Durant with his first pick if James doesn't scoop him up first, Curry also

expressed interest in playing with Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo a year after the Greek Freak put him on a poster in the midseason exhibition. "Giannis is probable, he dunked on me last year so I maybe have to get him on my team so that don't happen again," he told reporters. "There are certain guys you see from afar, you play against them a couple times a year. Maybe a different appreciation if they're on your team as well just for that little 48-minute showcase." James, meanwhile, has been adamant that he will pick a roster to try and come out on top after he was on the losing side the last three years. "I'm trying to win," he said, "This is the reason they did this format to make it very competitive. The All-Star game hasn't been what it should be the last few years. I'm going to take it upon myself and obviously the rest of the guys to go out there and play the game the right way and compete. Our fans deserve it." The 67th edition of the NBA all star game will be held Feb 18th at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

FANTASY SPORTS 4 EXPERT TIPS TO BUILDING A WINNING DAILY FANTASY BASKE TBALL LINEUP

Daily Fantasy Basketball is one of the fastest growing trends in the fantasy sports world, paying out millions in prizes each night. Its fun, addictive but really really hard! The average player who may draft his lieneup on his lunchbreak, or in the line at the bank doesnt have the time or the resources of the professional player. Heres our expert top 4 tips to cash in on that winning lineup and turn that luck around. #1) DEFENSE VS. POSITION STATS DvP stats are the easiest way to get a quick understanding of matchups. DraftKings actually shows defense vs. position figures next to a player’s name in the draft lobby, but there are a number of places where you can find these stats. Essentially, defense vs. position stats show you the stats allowed by each team against one of the five positions on the floor (PG, SG, SF, PF, C). DvP stats allow you to identify which teams struggle against each position, and from there you can try to exploit the matchups to find both value and

studs to target. The important thing to realize with DvP stats is that they don’t necessarily make a bad player better, but they can push a mediocre player into an above-average game and they can really help star players post high-ceiling games. #2) PACE OF PL AY You can use sites like NBA.com to find each team’s pace, which is the number of offensive possessions a team averages per 48 minutes of play. Essentially, the higher a team’s pace is, the better they tend to be for daily fantasy purposes. The theory behind it is simple; higher paced teams have more offensive possessions thus more opportunities for fantasy points. #3) VEGAS LINES Vegas Lines for over/unders are usually going to tell you some stats very similar to pace of play, but you can also use the spread for insight into your daily fantasy basketball play. Games with double digit spreads tend to be a bit riskier, since the chance of a blowout could leave one of your players on the bench for the majority of the 4th quarter.

Playing time is crucial in daily fantasy basketball and you don’t want to get two-thirds of a game out of one of your top players. On the same note, games that are really close on the spread are expected to be more back-and-forth and that could lead to a player getting more time on the court than his typical allotment.

#4) MINUTES Minutes are king in daily fantasy basketball, don’t ever ignore that. Sometimes it’s difficult to target a bad player in line to see a lot of minutes, but what you have to remember is that playing time in basketball leads to constant opportunities for rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. It seems almost too simple, but you want to try and find guys who will be over that 30 minutes played mark at all costs. If you’re just starting out, look at player game logs in the draft lobbies and check recent minutes. If a guy looks to be getting ample playing time, he’s usually a solid daily fantasy hoops option when you combine some of the other factors discussed above.

PRO SPORTS TEAMS WITH IT ALL ON THE LINE It doesn’t take a genius to explain there is huge money in Pro Sports, the NFL is a $13 billion industry, while the MLB is worth $36 billion. The NBA and the NHL each hold their own in annual revenues, too. But there are a lot of reasons why professional sports teams would face bankruptcy. Poor management at the top and a threat of relocation can hurt a fanbase severely, as well as unforeseen circumstances such as National anthem controversy can swing the pendulum drastically in either direction when fans lose interest. Of course, ticket sales are the bread and butter for most pro teams, and once fans refuse to file through the turnstiles, making money becomes an uphill battle. Some teams have been bleeding for years, making their bankruptcy file almost inevitable. On the verge of America perhaps more inclined than not to accept gambling in sports, I felt it important to acknowledge that Sports gambling is the mere foundation of professional sport. Owners spend billions to acquire teams, players, success in order to sell seats and more importantly fill bank accounts. Like any investment, essentially when all is said and done its gambling. Here’s a look at five franchises where Owners may want to look away.

T H E R E L O C AT I O N S E PA R AT I O N

LOS ANGELES CH ARGERS One hell of a Football team and if you ask me could and should have made a big playoff presence this season. It must be so painful for supporters to watch Josh Lambo with playoff success after releasing him in favor of a rookie that cost them 2 games earlier in the season. All that does not equate to much though, team relocations are often a sign of internal financial woes. So stadium musical chairs happening within the new Las Vegas/Los Angeles teams could be a game changer for the NFL. The Chargers are leaving a profitable San Diego market to share the spotlight with another team in L.A. Experts worry this will backfire, as it’s never a good idea for teams to turn their backs on fans who’ve supported them for years. The Chargers followed the St. Louis Rams to L.A. to play in Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s privately financed $2.6 billion new stadium. Is this a wise move? Only time will tell. All we know is that the Chargers didn’t sell out a single game in 2017 and fielded there best unit in quite some time.

OAKL AND RAIDERS Another team in the middle of the NFL relocation shake-up is the Oakland Raiders who have begun

the process of moving to Las Vegas. Vegas ranks in the bottom five of the league with only 758,000 TV homes. Their former San Francisco Bay area home was the nation’s sixth-largest market by comparison. Could this be the beginning of the end for The Raiders franchise? If Raider nation turns their back on the team, how will Vegas turn a profit? As a result Oakland has gone all in on Coach Gruden, almost promising glory before the move in an effort to engage fans? Not sure this ends well.

NBA SUPERTEAMS

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES

The NBA is going through a rough period the past 5 years especially with the injections of 2 dominant superteams. Confidential NBA records obtained by ESPN found nearly half of the 30 NBA franchises lost money last season. The NBA’s $24 billion TV deal should have been a beacon of hope for the league’s revenue disparity, but that didn’t happen for the Memphis Grizzlies. They uphold top standings among their fan base thanks to a long string of playoff appearances, but financially, their performance is a different story. Boosting their player payroll led to a $40 million loss. They earned a measly $9.4 million in local media rights last year, according to the report. They also have the smallest market in

the league by Nielsen rankings, which would likely offset any future revenue and cause continual challenges.

BROOKLYN NE TS Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov is selling the team for a record-breaking $2.3 billion. Who knows how the surprising change in management will affect the team moving forward, but documents show the team lost about $44 million last season. But before we assume failure, some say their poor profits could be salvaged with the revenues received from the non-basketball events held in the Barclays Center, which the team also owns. However failure to compete at the Super team level, has affected ticket sales and TV numbers.

RACE TO I R R E L E VA N C E

N ASCAR

Even NASCAR, which once enjoyed some of the highest ratings in sports, has been stalling. Revenues and TV ratings are plummeting as big-name drivers and profitable sponsors exit the sport. Lucrative sponsor

Target ended its deal with NASCAR, opting for Major League Soccer partnerships instead. Even the sport’s series finale in Homestead, Florida, posted viewership down 23% year-over-year. The sport that led the way in endorsements and sponsorships looks set for a bumpy road ahead. Whilst the final nail in the coffin is likely still years away, such a drastic fall in ratings could suggest future bankruptcy.

MONEYBALL

LOS ANGELES DODGERS Surprised? Success has come at a price for Magic Johnson and LA. The Dodgers were bankrupt just four

short years ago. But their highlypopulated market makes them one of the most profitable franchises. They’re also under an MLB mandate to cut debt. Recent big-name acquisitions cost them $1 billion to secure players like Clayton Kershaw and Adrian Gonzalez. Of course, they’ve enjoyed a winning record as a result, but MLB rules state a team can’t have debt more than 12 times their annual revenue. A payroll reduction is absolutely necessary for franchise salvation as the Dodgers are at least “hundreds of millions of dollars” in debt. With so much young talent, the big question is can they afford to keep it?

INDUSTRY INSIDER NBA PRESENTS PL AN TH AT COULD PUSH SPORTS BE T TING IN AMERICA

SHOW ME THE MONEY... Legalized sports gambling nationwide in the U.S. may have just gotten one step closer with a new plan outlined by the NBA. The league formally requested a set of laws last Wednesday, that could be followed across all professional sports leagues that are interested in national legalized wagering on games. An attorney for the NBA, Dan Spillane, testified before a New York State Senate committee and said the league wants to give fans more widespread access to gambling, which would increase the amount wagered and, with a percentage of the money wagered going to the league, ultimately lead to more revenue for the NBA. “We have studied these issues

at length,” Spillane said in his statement to lawmakers. “Our conclusion is that the time has come for a different approach that gives sports fans a safe and legal way to wager on sporting events while protecting the integrity of the underlying competitions.” What exactly does the NBA want in order to become a partner in legalizing what has amounted to a multibillion-dollar industry? The league wants 1 percent of every bet made on its games, and if others follow suit, it could create big revenue for all sports leagues in the future. The league also wants the wagering to be monitored in real time to detect any insider trading or alarming activity. They are also requesting including age restrictions to protect consumers in addition to a “rigorous licensing program” for operators. Spillane also expressed a sense

of urgency to keep up with states like New York that have taken steps to move forward in advancing legalizing sports betting. “We cannot sit on the sidelines while this activity is occurring,” Spillane said. Last week it was reported that the NBA and MLB consulted with Indiana lawmakers to introduce a sports gambling bill in that state that would levy a 1 percent “integrity fee” that operators would have to pay to leagues. This stance is a game changer for legal wagering, with New Jersey headed to court for final hearing in April it almost now seems it’s a foregone conclusion they will win. No doubt the success of Fantasy brands such as Draftkings and Fanduel has put integrity pressure on the big four and the silver lining just now seems to be a checkbook.

MLB POWER RANKINGS After all the offseason moneyball plays, with Spring Training knocking on the door we rank our top 6 teams for Season 2018.

6. LOS ANGELES DODGERS The Los Angeles Dodgers have two of the most promising young building blocks in the game in shortstop Corey Seager (23) and first baseman Cody Bellinger (22). They also have a rock-solid third baseman in Justin Turner, a dynamic table-setter in Chris Taylor and a once-again relevant Yasiel Puig, who posted a 118 OPS+ with 28 home runs and 74 RBI last season. If Joc Pederson can build off a strong showing in the World Series (6-for-18, 2 2B, 3 HR) and Logan Forsythe (119 G) can stay healthy enough to return to his Tampa Bay levels of production, this lineup could be a juggernaut. If not, it's still one of the more

dangerous offenses in the National League.

5. CHICAGO CUBS The Chicago Cubs led the majors in runs scored after the All-Star break, plating 5.72 per game as they claimed a second straight NL Central title. Manager Joe Maddon will continue to tinker with his lineup on a daily basis, a luxury he's afforded thanks to the versatility of players like Javier Baez, Ben Zobrist and Ian Happ. Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are two of the game's brightest stars and will be perennial MVP candidates, but a case can be made the Willson Contreras is the most important player in the lineup. Keeping him healthy and avoiding the urge to trot him out for 155 games will be crucial to the team's success. The leadoff spot will also be a major X-factor as it turned

into a revolving door following the departure of Dexter Fowler. More production from Addison Russell, Kyle Schwarber and Jason Heyward could vault the Cubs offense to the top of these rankings, but even if they fail to live up to expectations once again, it's still an awfully good lineup.

4. CLEVEL AND INDI ANS The emergence of Jose Ramirez as a superstar, the continued development of Francisco Lindor's offensive game and the addition of Edwin Encarnacion made the Cleveland Indians offense unstoppable at times last season. Replacing Carlos Santana with Yonder Alonso could wind up being a noticeable downgrade if Alonso's second-half swoon ( is indicative of his future production. That's the only major change to the lineup,

and first in home runs (241) last season. So what did they do this offseason? They went out and added a 59-homer, 132-RBI slugger named Giancarlo Stanton. Cutting ties with Starlin Castro and Chase Headley has left some mystery at second and third base this coming season. There's a good chance prospects Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar are the answer by season's end, but they might not be ready to take over on Opening Day. That may be a legitimate concern, but it's not big enough to keep the Yankees from ranking among the game's best offenses. The trio of Stanton, Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez could easily hit 120-plus home runs and are surrounded by emerging stars in Didi Gregorius, Greg Bird and Aaron Hicks. The fact that Clint Frazier— once considered to have some of the best raw power in the minors and still just 23 years old—is essentially an afterthought, should tell you everything you need to know about the current state of the Yankees offense.

1. HOUSTON ASTROS though.Healthy seasons from Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley would be a welcome bonus, but the team is not banking on that by any means. Yandy Diaz and Giovanny Urshela are options on the infield if Kipnis misses time again, while Tyler Naquin could be an option in the outfield if Brantley is sidelined. Expect to see top prospect Francisco Mejia at some point as well, even with Yan Gomes and Roberto Perez entrenched as the backstop tandem.

3. WASHINGTON N ATION ALS The Washington Nationals' only notable offensive moves this offseason have been re-signing Howie Kendrick to fill a super-utility role and bringing in Matt Adams to replace Adam Lind as a power bat off the bench. That said, Adam Eaton

almost qualifies as a newcomer. After being acquired in a winter meetings blockbuster trade last offseason, Eaton played just 23 games before suffering a torn ACL that ended his season. He was a 6.2 WAR player in his final season with the White Sox and could make a huge impact setting the table alongside Trea Turner. Hitting behind that duo, Bryce Harper, Daniel Murphy and Anthony Rendon are three of the best hitters in the NL, while Ryan Zimmerman is once again a relevant middle-of-the-order threat. The starting rotation might be the Nats' biggest strength, but the offense is not far behind.

2. NEW YORK YANKEES The New York Yankees were second in the majors in runs scored (858)

Stanton to the Yankees has been the story of the offseason, but it's still not enough to bump the Houston Astros lineup out of the No. 1 spot. The reigning World Series champions led baseball in batting average (.282), OPS (.823) and runs scored (896) last season and there's no reason to think they can't do it again.Carlos Beltran is the only notable loss from last year's lineup and he was a non-factor during the team's playoff run. They need to sort out the left field job this spring as former top prospect Derek Fisher and slick-fielding Jake Marisnick look like the leading candidates to fill a larger role. With the young core of Carlos Correa, George Springer and Alex Bregman alongside face of the franchise Jose Altuve, this team is in terrific shape for 2018 and beyond.

GOLF

If golf has a reputation for being old fashioned, that’s because the industry has done a lousy job of promoting its tech-geek side. Perhaps if more golfers of all ages knew about the algorithms, R&D technology and social mobility that underpin today’s game they’d be more like to show up at the golf course. A cursory stroll through the aisles of the 2018 PGA Merchandise Show at the sprawling Orange County (Fla.) Convention Center makes the case that the game, far from being tradition bound, is on the cutting edge of high technology. For about $500 for example, golfers can buy their own personal, portable launch monitor from Flight Scope. The device looks like one of those little boxes you put on the inside of your car windshield to get through bridge and highway tolls without stopping. The radar device, called “mevo” (for “measure my velocity’) provides a record of ball speed, club speed, carry distance, launch angle and spin rate and trajectory apex, A tour of the Danish-based shoe company ECCO’s booth reveals the latest outcome of biomechanical foot research and injection molding that yields a shoe with no seams. How do

they manage global distribution of 80 different styles of sport, leisure and casual wear in all of those sizes? It’s all about the algorithms that enable projections of what to order and what to distribute where. At a sound stage session that serves an official PGA of America marketing platform, World Golf Hall of famer Greg Norman extolls the virtue of a mobile, multi-media platform that would accompany golfers around the course. The Shark Experience Presented by Verizon entails a cart-borne technology that involves exposure to the Internet, music, news, and sports results and even live games. Why lose Saturday afternoon play when college football season starts. “Golf has been stuck for a long time,” Norman says. It’s time for some technological connectivity to link golfers back to the modern world. Steve Mona, chief executive officer of the World Golf Foundation, is one of those industry insiders who welcome such innovations. Though he admits to being a traditionalist in his own game (“I shut off technology during golf,” he says) he sees no problem embracing innovation when it’s more conducive to the lifestyle of others.

He’s especially concerned to make the game more appealing to younger generations that are more conversant and more comfortable with social media and technology. “We live in an experience economy, one of entertainment,” he says. “Golf needs to be open to that.” The U.S. Golf Association has a new Resource Management tool, still in development but on the verge of being made available to golf courses, as a comprehensive means of planning, monitoring and efficiency. The program relies upon a combination of GPS measurements, ongoing data input, industry standards and local conditions of everything from the price of material and labor to weather conditions and topography. The result is the ability to measure every input of what it takes to keep a golf course going from water, fertilizer and manpower. It’s also a tool that enables course managers to edit their turf management practices and anticipate exactly what the savings will be. One thing you learn pretty quickly at the PGA Show. This is not a game stuck in its past.

HORSE RACING

THE HORSE OF THE YEAR DEBATE Well it’s now official, Australian racing is regarded as second-rate against those contesting north of the equator. What other conclusion can be drawn from last weeks shock announcement that Arrogate is inferior to Winx again? This time last year Arrogate was crowned Longines World’s Best Racehorse for his feats in 2016 and he’s taken the award again, off the back of just two wins. And one of those was ultra-suspect. He took out the $US7m first prize in a dubious ‘purpose built’ Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park (what a joke, World Cup?) where there was virtually no opposition apart from California Chrome, who was injured during the race. Later in the year he went to Dubai and again beat a suspect field to win the Dubai World Cup (how many World Cups are there?) although his performance on that occasion was certainly befitting of the “World’s Best Racehorse” and that is the totality of what earned him the prize. However the Dubai World Cup wasn’t even rated the World’s Best Horse Race with that honour going to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which was won by Enable, a three-year-old filly who also accounted for the older horses again in the King

George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, which incidentally was rated the second best race in the world. This star filly, who won the two top races in the world and finished 2017 with six-straight wins came in fifth, six ratings points adrift of Arrogate! But back to Arrogate and what his season produced, as the saying goes; “one swallow doesn’t make a summer”. The wheels fell off after the Dubai World Cup with Arrogate having three runs at Del Mar finishing fourth, second and fifth with his final start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic behind this year’s Pegasus favourite Gun Runner, and the so-called World’s Best Racehorse didn’t even start favourite! I gather that means if Gun Runner wins the $16m Pegasus this weekend he’s a shoo-in for World’s Best Racehorse next year. He’s equal third as we speak. It seems the rules are pretty simple, deliver one super run (the Dubai World Cup in Arrogate’s case) north of the equator and that’s enough to earn you the gong. And lets not forget not all horses are competing on the same playing field with regards to drugs. But that’s another issue.

Look at Australia’s Queen of the turf Winx, she raced nine times during 2017 finishing atop the podium on each occasion as she stretched her winning streak to 22 and those nine wins included six Group I events including a three peat in the Cox Plate. In her 22 wins Winx has won 15 Group I races and she still can’t earn the acknowledgement as “World’s Best”. How different would it be if Winx had shown her wares in the northern hemisphere we must ask? Instead of races being rated accordingly to separate the world’s best racehorse, it seems extra honors are offered to Horses who travel and win. The biggest concern are the quality of fields and how much prize money is now a factor. For me Dubai World Cup, Pegasus World Cup & The Everest carry big dollars but little form guide. If this honor of the worlds greatest Racehorse was legitimate, there is absolutely no chance Arrogate rates above Winx or Enable. Can we openly acknowledge that the Longines Racehorse of the Year is awarded to the Longines Dubai World Cup winner?

TECH GUIDE TO THE ULTIMATE SUPER BOWL PARTY Super Bowl LII is knocking on the door and one of the biggest Sporting Party Holidays on the calendar. Of course, the game is just one aspect that people care about. More important to some folks are the accompanying commercials and party where friends come together and gather around their home entertainment centers, usually with a cold beer in one hand and a handful of chips in the other. Whichever pastime you prefer, throwing a killer Super Bowl party can be as challenging as completing a fourth and long - but, if you’re ready to up your party-throwing game, we’ve picked out a dozen or so tech gadgets that will help you take your party from 0 and 16 to Super Bowl champion status.

be less enjoyable than running laps around the field. To help you narrow down the options out there, we’ve selected one awesome but still affordable TVs to choose from, one 65-inch and one 55-inch. (It’s possible to go lower than that for personal watching, but if you’re hosting a party, the 55-inch mark should be what you’re aiming for.)

THE BEST T V FOR THE SUPER BOWL

First up is the TCL 55P607 4K HDR Roku TV. Not only is this a great TV for the game thanks to its 4K HDR picture, but it’s great for the many movie nights, too, thanks to its addition of Dolby Vision, a format that enables better contrast and more vivid colors. It comes with Roku built-in which has apps like WatchESPN, FOX Sports Go and NBC Sports perfect for the sports lover in your home.

Let’s start with the biggest ticket item first. The TV is the gateway to the big game and while it’s always fun picking a new screen for the whole family to enjoy, the shopping experience can

If you’re looking for something a bit larger, the VIZIO 65-inch M-Series XLED TV (M65-E0) is an awesome big-screen TV that looks

extraordinary. What makes this TV a real winner is VIZIO’s XLED panel control technology that offers enhanced contrast and colors. While XLED is no match for proper panel tech like OLED or QLED, it’s hard to get a much better looking picture at this price point.

THE BEST SOUNDBAR FOR THE SUPER BOWL Of course, having a big screen TV is decidedly less awesome if no one can hear it. If your group of friends can get a bit … rowdy, you might want to invest in a new soundbar so that you can actually hear the game over the dull din of conversation. If you’re looking to elevate your audio game, the first step in the right direction is the Samsung HW-MS650 Sound+ Soundbar. It has awesome mid-range enhancing technology that boosts voices along with some pretty hearty bass response when it comes time to throw on an action flick after the game. It also doesn’t hurt that this awesome soundbar is around half

the cost of similar-performing options from LG, Sony and Bose. If your definition of football is a little less … patriotic, you might like the British-made Q Acoustics M4 Soundbar. Much like the “proper” version of the sport of football, the M4 Soundbar is simple, refined and elegant. You won’t find a half-dozen HDMI ports here, nor will there be complicated setup instructions - but if you want a simple-to-set up soundbar without all the bells and whistles, the M4 is easily the best of the lot.

THE BEST GAME SYSTEM FOR THE SUPER BOWL The first two items on this list are the essentials; you simply need them in order to throw any run-of-themill Super Bowl party. If you want to throw an epic Super Bowl party, however, you’re going to need some other form of entertainment for when the game ends. Enter the Xbox One S, the PS4 Pro and the Nintendo Switch. For those folks who are not quite ready for the season to be over, there’s probably no better console than the Xbox One S with Madden 18. Throw this on the big screen after the game ends and some party goers might not even recognize that the game’s over. If you’ve got a slightly younger crowd to entertain, the PS4 Pro with FIFA 18 is sure to keep them occupied while the adults enjoy the game elsewhere in the house. With easy to pick-up controls and four-player multiplayer, FIFA 18 is a solid option for younger fans of footie. If you’ve got a mixed-age crowd on your hands, Nintendo Switch with 1-2 Switch is the party game to get. With dozens of mini games to pick from, 1-2 Switch is the perfect launching point and showcase game for your brand-new Nintendo console.

THE BEST KITCHEN ACCESSORIES FOR THE SUPER BOWL Anyone who’s ever hosted an epic Super Bowl party knows that the party doesn’t stop at the living room, usually folks will stroll from the living room to the kitchen, dwelling in the latter during commercial breaks if their favorite team isn’t doing so hot. To accomodate all those folks who’d rather score the first serving of nacho dip rather than cheer a team after a first down, here are three spectacular kitchen gadgets that are guaranteed to keep both you and your guests entertained, informed and … uh, intoxicated. While announcer commentary is the primary form of aural entertainment in the living room, treat your guests to a spectacular music display with the Sonos One Smart Speaker. Capable of blasting tunes and answering inquiries simultaneously, the Sonos One Smart Speaker’s not afraid to work over time. If you fancy yourself a techie and chef, the Weber iGrill Smart Thermometer is a great little gadget to have in your culinary arsenal. Like its name suggests, the iGrill features built-in Bluetooth to keep you updated on the status of your home cooked meals. This is perfect if you’re making a few hamburgers for your Super Bowl crew, and even better when it comes time for the holidays and you find yourself in front of a robust, hard-to-cook bird. Of course, the last component of a perfect Super Bowl party at least in my VERY STRONG opinion - is alcohol. The Fizzics Beer System scores you a perfect pour each and every time. While this might sound a frivolous, just think of the ramifications of a household of semi-drunk party goers: overcarbonated drinks spraying on your living room carpet and a trash bag’s

worth of empty bottles to pick up after the party’s over. Avoid the mess by letting this beer system play bartender for the night.

THE BEST OUTDOOR ACCESSORIES FOR THE SUPER BOWL If you’re lucky enough to live in a place that wasn’t hit by last month’s Bomb Cyclone, you might have the luxury of taking your tailgate party to the backyard should rain not interfere with next Sunday’s game. With green grass underfoot and a cool breeze running through your hair, keep your guests long entertained with these awesome outdoor-partyenhancing tech gadgets. First thing you’re going to need if you’re going into the great outdoors for a party is a decent light. For party purposes, there’s none better than the Philips Hue Go. With the ability to program the light show using your phone and integration with smart home speakers for when it’s time to head back inside, the Hue Go does a great job striking the balance between play time and work. If you’re looking for an ice chest that’s smarter than the same ol’ plastic chest your parents used 20 years ago, the Coolest Cooler builds a splashproof Bluetooth speaker, a waterproof USB charger and a blender into a rugged, tailgate-ready cooler. Outdoor lighting? Check. Awesome cooler to store beverages? Check. It feels like we might be missing something … oh, right. A TV! If you actually plan on taking your tailgate party outdoors, you’re going to need a TV that can handle at least some of the elements. For that purpose, there’s no better substitute than a Sunbrite TV and an HD antenna. Born and bred for the outdoors, you can connect them to a power source, plug in an HD antenna and soon your backyard patio will be the best place to watch a game come BBQ season.

Short haircuts styled to enhance texture was big in 2017 and that powerful trend looks to continue into 2018. In fact texture is being added to all kinds of haircuts and styles. Taper haircuts will also keep getting more popular for short, longer and curly hair. Along those lines, we are seeing more medium length hair in all kinds of styles. With longer hair means more styling options. On the one hand, pompadour-inspired styles are huge because they look great and are easy to style. On the other side of the spectrum, messy looks are back in a big way. Picking the best trend for you depends on hair type, face shape and styling time and ability. Find your favorites and then chat with your barber about how to make it work for you. Try to find pictures of guys with a similar hair type in terms of thickness and texture. Now, onto the trending men’s hairstyles for 2018.

TEXTURED SWEEP BACK+HIGH FACE This matte sweep back is styled with thick, chunky texture for a cool, tousled look.

TEXTURED SLICK BACK Slicked back styles have come a long way since the Mad Men-inspired days. Today’s slick looks are longer, higher and more textured. This hair and beard is more Stan Rizzo than Don Draper.

TEXTU RED CROP The textured crop is a fresh, modern look that works for most hair types. It can lighten up thick hair, bulk up fine or thin hair and is a natural fit for guys with wavy and curly hair.

CROP+ FRING E The textured crop can have short or longer fringe cut blunt or worn to one side. This version is the latter on both counts with angled bangs halfway down the forehead.

TEXTU RED BANGS Another stylist pendulum swing is hair worn forward in bangs instead of slicked back. This long crop with tons of texture features full on fringe at the front and a fade at the back.

MESSY SHORT CROP This crop cut and style works for guys with fine or thinner hair or even a receding hairline. Layering, texture and messy styling add so much fullness to the allover look.

MONEY & FIN ANCE

SHOULD I INVEST IN B I T C O I N I N 2018

So your social media feed, google Ads and best friends are all talking about this Bitcoin? But what exactly is it and am I too late? 2017 started with a bang as Bitcoin shot through the $1000 mark with no signs of slowing down. As a result its everywhere and everyone is an expert. However the simple question still remains “Should I invest in Bitcoin?” Before we begin, I want to get something out of the way – Bitcoin is not a company or a stock, it’s a currency. If you still don’t understand what Bitcoin is, watch a tutorial or seek instruction from an investment advisor. So when you want to invest in Bitcoin you are basically buying the currency. However, there are also some other forms of investing in Bitcoin just to complicate things. What does it mean to invest in Bitcoin? In order to answer this question the first thing you need to answer is what do you mean when you say you want to invest in Bitcoin. Do you want to buy the currency in hopes it will appreciate it value? Do you want to invest in Bitcoin related companies? Are you looking to day trade with Bitcoins?

BUYING AND HOLDING The most common form of “investing” in Bitcoin is buying the currency in hopes it will appreciate in value (also knowns as “hodling”, in Crypto terms). If this is the case then you need to decide for yourself if you think this is a good time to buy. Meaning, do you think the price will continue to rise. Don’t take anyone’s advice about what will happen with the currency, do your homework, learn about Bitcoin and come to a conclusion. Personally I believe we are just starting, but that’s my own opinion and you shouldn’t consider that as investment advice as well.

A FEW POINTERS FOR BUYING AND HOLDING BITCOINS: *Never invest more than you are willing/ able to lose – Bitcoin is a very risky investment and you should keep in that in mind at all times. *After buying Bitcoins make sure to move them into your own personal wallet

and never leave them at the exchange. My personal recommendation is to use a hardware wallet to store your Bitcoins. If you can’t afford a hardware wallet, try a paper wallet. *Make sure to buy Bitcoins only from exchanges that have proven their reputation. *Buy Bitcoins through Dollar cost averaging – This means that you don’t buy all of your Bitcoins in one trade but instead buy a fixed amount every month, week or even day throughout the year. This way you average the price over the course of a whole year.

TRADING IN BITCOINS Bitcoin trading is different than buying and holding. When you are trading Bitcoins it means that you are actively trying to buy Bitcoins at a low price and sell them back at a higher price in relatively short time interval. Trading successfully requires knowledge and practice. The trading market is occupied by very large players who are just waiting for newbies to come in and throw their money away by trading aimlessly. If you want to learn more about Bitcoin trading I recommend a tutorial from 99bitcoins.com

INVESTING IN BITCOIN MINING Some people would like to invest their money into mining Bitcoin. For the past few years mining Bitcoin is only profitable if done at large scales. This means you will need to get expensive mining equipment and hopefully have access to free electricity. Also it’s usually much more cost effective to buy Bitcoins with this money instead of using it to buy mining equipment. Some of you may have heard of all sorts of sites that allow you to mine Bitcoins through them. This is known as cloud mining and these sites fall into one out of two categories: *They are complete scams that will run away with your money and don’t actually use it to mine Bitcoin. *They are not scams, but they are bad investments since you will probably get more Bitcoins if you just use that money to buy Bitcoins instead of paying the site.

INVEST IN BITCOIN COMPANIES / GROW YOUR BITCOINS / HYIPS Finally, every other day I get a question about a site or company that claims to double your Bitcoins, give you insane daily interest on your Bitcoins or help you invest them in some sort of complex and obscure scheme. These sites can be categorized mostly as scams or HYIPs (high yield investment programs). What these sites usually do is they take money from people around the web and promise to give them good returns. They will then start off by paying these returns through money they get from new sign ups and create a big buzz around the site. Usually they will also have some sort of referral program so that users can bring in their friends. This will go on for around 3-4 months until one day the website will just go offline and the money will be gone. No more payments will be made and a lot of people will get mad that they got scammed. I have reviewed many Bitcoin investment sites in the past 3 years (e.g. BTCJam, Bitcoin Trader) and I have yet to find a site that I can say is legit or safe to invest in. Any site that promises you something that is too good to be true is probably just a facade for scammers trying to steal your coins. How can you find out if a site is a scam for yourself? Easy, use our Bitcoin scam test tool. I can’t emphasize this enough – STAY AWAY FROM SITES THAT CLAIM THEY WILL DOUBLE YOUR COINS OR GIVE YOU DAILY INTEREST ON THEM.

SO SHOULD YOU INVEST IN BITCOIN? By now you can probably see that the answer isn’t that simple. It’s not just a matter of should you invest, but also a matter of how to invest. Like I said in the beginning, start by educating yourself. Learn about the currency, what affects it, what are its advantages and disadvantages, etc. You can get a lot of basic education through free Bitcoin crash course online. After you feel you’ve acquired some basic education it’s time to answer this question. REMEMBER – only you can answer this. You can consult others and read online but never follow someone’s advice blindly.

GRILLERS' Corner GAME DAY GRILLING TIPS

Grab your team’s jersey and fire up the grill—it’s football season, and no game day is complete without a full spread of grilled meat and vegetables. Whether you’re rusty on your grill skills or looking to impress your buddies with some new tricks, our grill hacks will punch up your game day experience by saving you time and effort while punching up the flavor of your favorite game day foods.

HOT DOGS

Spiral cut your hot dogs using a skewer and a knife so that they grill evenly throughout. And rather than have a slew of condiments scattered across your tailgate table, use a muffin tin to separate and place condiments. Bonus – this also cuts down on the number of dishes you have to clean and the amount of waste from your tailgate. Got an empty six-pack? (Sure you do) Use this to hold and carry condiment bottles, napkins, and other essentials. Don’t forget the bottle opener.

RIBS

Turn your grill into a smoker by placing a tin foil pouch filled with wood chips on top of one of your burners. Spraying apple juice on your meat as it grills or smokes

will enhance the flavor appearance, and tenderness of the finished product.

BURGERS

For those of you who don’t use pre-formed patties for burger, A) good for you, and B) hiding a single ice cube in the patty is a great way to ensure that the inside of the burger stays moist while cooking. This trick works best if you are forming the patties immediately before placing them on the grill—that way, the ice cube doesn’t melt and soak the whole burger. To retain that moisture as well as heat, allow the meat to rest for ten minutes under a loose tent of aluminum foil.

POST-GAME CLEANUP

While your grill is still hot, scrub it with the cut side of a freshly halved onion. Not only will the oils in the onion get rid of most of the residue left over on the grill, but they’ll also season the grill and add flavor for the next time it’s used. Using these grill hacks, your tailgate or game-viewing party will crush the opposition and be a success— whether or not your team actually wins you’ll still be talk of the town.

HEALTH is your

WEALTH

NUTRITIONAL TRENDS SET TO SHAKE UP THE NEW YEAR Move over Juice cleanses, you are so 2017! Every new year brings with it new trends, and this is no different in the nutrition world. You’ll most definitely remember the Avocado Explosion of 2016, the Fusion Food Fad of 2015, and more recently, everything in a juice. 2018 is set to be no different, and whilst there are sure to be novelty diets and a few odd flavour creations, we wanted to know what trends were likely to reshape the way we eat for the better this year.

THE CONTINUED R I S E O F P L A N TBASED DIETS

Building on the momentum of the last few years when we’ve seen a huge shift towards vegan and vegetarian diets, plant-based eating is set to be the biggest nutrition trend in 2018. And it’s not just about our health. It’s about being better to the planet and the animals that inhabit it, and its making for some seriously innovative food options. Expect to find more meatless “meat dishes”, more sea-free “sea-food”, more non-dairy milk (or ‘mylk’) coffee drinkers, more vegan desserts and more plant protein powders!

HEMP

Now that it’s been legalised in many nations for the first time, there is going to be an influx of hemp products into the nutrition market and we’re very happy about it. Hemp is a powerhouse when it comes to protein containing all 9 essential amino acids, it’s an excellent source of essential fatty acids (omega-3’s and 6’s) and polyunsaturated fatty acids and is rich in Vitamin E and other minerals such as phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulphur, calcium, iron and zinc! Hemp seeds, hemp oil, hemp chocolate, hemp beer - we’ll have it all!

ADAPTOGENS

Every year seems to be getting more stressful than the last, and we think it’s rather safe to say that although we are excited by the prospects of 2018, this trend is likely to continue. We’ll all experience some sort of stress in one form or another, conscious or unconscious, and adaptogens will be there in full force to help improve our ability to adapt to it, stabilise our physiological processes and promote homeostasis. Expect to find them in the form of teas, powders, tonics and powershots.

FUNCTIONAL SNACKS

Why just eat a regular chocolate bar in 2018 when you can have a protein chocolate bar? Or regular potato chips when you can have broccoli chips? Customers are wanting more from their consumables, more protein, more probiotics, more nutrients, more fibre, all in return for better health. But be sure to choose wisely, although these products are marketed for health and wellness, they can’t make up for poor eating habits.

LABEL T R A N S PA R E N C Y

Gone are the days when people just believe what’s written on the packet. Consumers are becoming more and more savvy about labelling and are readily asking questions. They want to know exactly what’s in food products and supplements, what the quality is, what forms the ingredients come in and where they were sourced. 2018 is undoubtedly going to be the year that ensures brand become fully transparent about what their production and manufacturing, otherwise they will lose out to those that are!

SPORTS BETTING STRATEGY 101 To Bet Smart, a strategy is a must. Here is some foundation tips for starting out and developing a winning sports betting strategy of your own. M AN AGING YOUR INVESTMENT – BANKROLL, STAKING & RECORDING Without an edge in the market it can be very difficult to make money. Time and effort needs to be put into defining your edge as well managing the money you invest. If you poorly manage your funds, you may find yourself unable to execute your betting strategies.Your bankroll is the entire amount of money you set aside for investment over a certain period. Determining this amount is dependent on how aggressive or conservative you choose your betting strategies to be. Once you have this amount determined it’s crucial to then decide how you will best stake against your bankroll to optimise your strategy. There are a range of staking plans that can be applied to wagering. There is no right or wrong method so it’s important to have a detailed understanding of the varying methods that are available. Percentage staking method applies a consistent percentage of your bankroll on each bet. The method attempts to protect the wagerer from losing their entire bankroll. It assumes equal value of each bet, this could mean that you may be investing the same amount on a $1.50 (66.7% probability) as an investment which is $6.70 (14.92% probability). This method doesn’t consider value. Proportional staking involves betting a share of your bankroll in proportion to your advantage within the market or in relation to the market price. There are a range of methods that

can be implemented into your plan. The Dutching method of staking involves dividing your stake over a number of selections in a market so that a consistent amount is won regardless of which selection wins. This method utilises the market price and your proposed return amount to determine your stake. RECOGNISING VALUE & HAVING AN EDGE Value is when the odds available represent a probability that is less than the actual or perceived probability of an event. Another way of saying this is that the odds available are larger than your perception of what the odds should be. Take, for example, the toss of a coin. There are only two possible outcomes and they both have an equal chance of occurring. Therefore, the true odds of the coin landing on a head or a tail is $2.00 regardless of how many times you toss it. If five heads have landed in a row, it makes no difference. The odds are always the same – 50-50, or in betting terms $2.00 or ‘even money’. As a punter, it’s your task to identify the event where the odds available represent value. Still using the above example, this could mean finding the odds of $2.20 for heads or tails. To determine a value proposition in a market the investor first needs to be able to determine a perceived value. Punters differ in their methods to determine their perceived value of an event. Some may utilise a mathematical approach based on historical data and others may use other information such as form, weather, opinion etc. Regardless of the approach to determine the probability of an event, punters need to be able to determine an edge between their perceived value and market value

within their betting strategies. The key to any strategy whereby a punter has used historical data and analysis, is to rigorously test and refine their strategy before investing with real money. Further to this, if you have thoroughly tested and believe that your model/strategy works, you must trust your work. If the first week or two don’t yield your expected returns, be patient and remember that it is a long-term strategy, not a smash and grab job. FORM AND M ATHEM ATICS There are a plethora or racing’s analysts, tipsters and professionals in racing and sport that can provide their insight into the results of an event. When it comes to form analysis, punters can follow their preferred analyst or work the form themselves to determine the outcome. Sometimes a combination of the two can be the approach in sports betting strategies. Determining the outcome of an event can also be determined by utilising mathematics to model and predict the outcome. This can range from basic to complex statistical testing on past performance to determine an edge. If you read other tipsters or analyst’s thoughts, they might just give you a factor that you hadn’t even thought of to include in your model or strategy. Even though your model might yield positive results, there is nothing saying it could be even more efficient and yield even better results. And lastly, sport is forever changing. Just because your betting strategies are working for you during a specific period, doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for the next. Don’t get complacent. Be stringent and always make sure you track your results and revise if and when it’s needed.
