VENICE - perhaps no other city in the world has inspired the many superlatives heaped upon Venice by writers and travellers through the centuries. Venice is built on 117 small islands and has some 150 canals and 409 bridges.

NAPLES - no other city in Italy arouses such passion and it’s rare to meet an Italian indifferent to the subject. But this adds to the city’s distinct edge, to the vibrant sense of self that is disarmingly infectious and utterly irresistible. The fact is, Naples is fun.

TRIESTE - the port of Trieste, capital of the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, lies on the Gulf of Trieste, framed by the precipitous slopes of a limestone plateau, in the northeast corner of the Adriatic.

Known as piccola Roma (little Rome) for its importance in imperial days, its truly golden era came during the 13th and 14th centuries under the Scaligeri family (Della Scala family). The period was noted for the savage family feuding of which Shakespeare wrote in his play.

VISIT CAPRI & BLUE CAVE Features of the island are the Marina Piccola (Small Harbor), the Belvedere of Tragara, which is a high panoramic promenade lined with villas, the limestone masses called Sea Stacks that stand out of the sea, Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas. Today a Unesco Heritage Site, the sassi (stone houses) were home to more than half of Matera’s populace until well after World War II. People and animals slept together. VOLCANO & LOST CITY - MT. VESUVIUS & POMPEII Pompeii is a ruined and partially buried Roman town-city near modern Naples. Today, it is both one of the most popular tourist attractions of Italy and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This legendary volcano dominates the landscape, looming ominously over Naples and its environs.
