The Flamingo Park programme on Monday has managed to attract more than double the amount of runners than the Kenilworth card last Tuesday.

That makes for attractive mid-month punting and with the R100 000 Kimberley 1400 as the headliner, we should be in for some quality entertainment.

by Jaguar, but the weight turnaround could make the difference here.

Just A Jag comes in 4kgs better off and Zechner may have a plan to have him a little bit closer to the action.

The year older Jaguar is no slouch at best and bounced back strongly to win his last start. Something of a courseand-distance specialist, he has put in some dicey performances but must go close in the hands of Met jockey, JP van der Merwe.

His stablemate Razzle My Tazzle steps back into mixed company after showing well for a second to The Berry Lady in an MR 80 Handicap at her last start.

With the additional 2kgs weight swing (she is ridden

by a claimer) in her favour, she must have a reasonable prospect of getting a bit closer to Jaguar than the 6,25 lengths of her last start.

Two From Three

Fairview 5th February After finishing runner up in the prestigious 2yo event on Met Day, PACIFIC SPIRIT looked to be a good thing in the opening maiden juvenile plate over 1000m on Friday and so it proved to be. Always deep in the red, Yvette Bremner’s charge was soon up handy. He was ridden to lead going through the 300m and won going away with some in hand by three and a half.

Run in a time just 0,85 seconds faster than that of Pacific Spirit was the pinnacle stakes over 1000m won by the course record holder BLIZZARD BELLE. Taken straight to the front by 4kg claimer Kersley Ramsamy, the Western Winter mare led throughout. She was always clear and won without any anxious moments by a length and a quarter.

Three of the afternoon’s nine races were run over 1400m and the fastest of these was the Sophomore Plate won by MEMPHIS MAFIA. On leaving the stalls it was the nibbled at AGTERSKOT (12/1 into 7/1) who elected to make the running whilst the second favourite sat close up in fourth. He put his head in front 250m out and with the rest well beaten he won by three quarters from the running on FLY LIKE THE WIND. TITBITS

Greyville 5th February They raced on the poly track on Friday evening where the fastest of the three 1400m events, a MR74 Handicap, was won by SPANISH CAPTAIN. The best bet on the card for many, Tony Rivalland’s charge was soon positioned close to the speed.

He took up the running early in the straight and comfortably accounted for the second favourite BUSTER BROWN by a length and a half. There was also three races run over 1900m and quickest against the clock in these was ARABIAN WORLD when registering his third career victory in the MR69 Handicap. There was no pace on early and despite being a little slow into stride Alec Laird’s charge was soon up handy. He was ridden to lead shortly after passing the 200m marker and won going away from the pacemaker BORN TO RULE by a length and a half. Visiting trainer Alec Laird (won two from three on the night) was also on the mark when SEATTLE PRINCE did the business in the maiden plate over 1600m. Another to race handy, the son of Mambo In Seattle struck the front 100m out and won going away from the fancied SOLDIER’S CODE.

TITBITS

At the helm from pillar to post, DREAMY FOREST won the MR66 Handicap over 1200m with authority by two.

From Strength To Strength

The improving Stronghold mare STONE TOWN ran on well from the rear when getting up late to win the MR60 Handicap over 1400m.

SYMBOLIK won the non-black type Fairview Mile with a little in hand.

They raced on the inner track on Saturday where the fastest of the four 1450m races was the Gr3 Tony Ruffel Stakes won by SUYOOF. Sent off second in the betting market at 6/1, Mike De Kock’s charge raced in midfield early on.

He quickened well at the top of the short home straight and in a thrilling three way finish he got the better of the Ready To Run Cup winner CHAMPAGNE HAZE by a half. Suyoof has now won all three starts since finishing a runner up to the talented BRAZUCA in a maiden plate on debut.

Sharing top billing was the Gr3 Three Troikas Stakes won by MADAME DUBOIS. Easy to back at 8/1 on the off, Robbie Sage’s charge raced fifth for most of the journey. She put her head in front going through the 200m and just had

enough in hand to beat the running on favourite NEGROAMARO (came from midfield) by a neck.

The easiest victory on the eight race program was recorded by MASTER SWITCH in the MR86 Handicap. Taken straight to the front

by Anton Marcus the son of Jet Master led throughout. He was always clear and won unchallenged by four and a half. The favourite SHIMMERING BROOK meanwhile had raced at the back and although he ran on well to take second, he was never a threat.

TITBITS The 4/10 favourite DOLPHIN only had to be pushed out at the business end of the maiden plate over 1000m, and won very easily by three and a quarter with a ton in hand.

What, No Bi-Pot Kenilworth 6th February Three of the seven races in Cape Town on Saturday were run over 1600m and stopping the clock in the fastest time amongst these was INANNA when winning the bill topping MR91 Handicap. The Royal Air Force mare PETTY OFFICER made the running and she very quickly had the seven runners well strung out. The favourite Inanna tracked her throughout though and when the early effort began to take its toll 200m from home she quickly took command. She ran on strongly below the distance and won comfortably from the running on hat-trick seeker ADORADA. The faster of the two 1200m races was the MR74 Handicap in which MR BOND registered his second career victory. Sent off second in the betting market

at 7/2, the son of Trippi was always handy. He ran on strongly over the final 400m and won going away from the front running MEGAMIND after striking the front 80m or so from home. There were a number of very easy victories on the card and none more so than that of EXTRADITE in the opening maiden juvenile plate over 1100m. Soon at the head of affairs, Mike Bass’ charge led throughout. She only had to be pushed out over the final 400m and with some in hand came home lonely by five and a half.

Cat O’ Nine Tales KIMBERLEY 1400 at Flamingo Park on Monday

Stef Miller’s Kent Rock is very talented but may need the outing after a 14 week break, following his having suffered an epistaxis.

He had won five of his six Kimberley outings prior to that, so needs to be considered – and the betting may be the best guide to his fitness.

Visitor

Louis Goosen makes a rare trip to these parts. He saddles the Daylami 6yo

Move Like Jagger, who seems to be battling in the stronger centres. A winner of 5 of his 41 starts, he could be effective if he adapts to the diamond dustbowl and is well drawn with a decent weight on his back.

Evergreen local Cliffie Miller saddles Seattle Sunset and Emerald Mackay.

The latter was the subject of some high praise from his veteran conditioner last time when beating Taso The Sailor in an MR 77 Handicap

over 1200m. His 15 draw is something of a deterrent here.

Seattle Sunset may be the better and has won two of his four Kimberley starts. He will be ridden by the highon-confidence recent Gr3 Tommy Hotspur hero Jarryd Penny and is a horse with a decent turn of foot. He is also nicely drawn.

Bling

S’manga Khumalo rides Jack Friday, one of a quartet

from the Bill Human stable.

A bit widely drawn, the son of Greys Inn has won his last two on the trot but is probably more effective over 200m further.

Course and distance winner Taso The Sailor looks best of the balance. He chased Emerald Mackay home last time in a form return after a quite spell. He is another with a handy looking 52kgs on his back and capable of a big effort.

Leon Erasmus and regular

stable jockey Sherman Brown are in town with the topweighted Stage Call gelding, Stavinsky.

His form shows that he has been running against much stronger and on his best sand performances, he would have an undeniable shout – but his wide draw looks a serious dampner.

Tienie Prinsloo’s Lord Victorious showed up last time for a fair third to Sub Shaawes, but is rather in-andout to be taken too seriously.

Fractions

We are going to go for the recent winner Jaguar to maintain his form and overcome the weight turnaround.

He is the choice to beat Just A Jag, with Jack Friday and Seattle Sunset the quartet fillers.

In view of the healthy sized exotic fields, decent payouts could be on the cards – so go wide and lean on the fractions.
