Written by Julie Hying

If you’re feeling stressed and anxious at home or with a home project, look to Harmony Home Concepts for help. Owners Phil and Shelley Davis have been proudly serving the Wichita area for over seventeen years, and are determined to “make every day easier,” for their customers. They’ve created five simple steps (plus a bonus tip) to calming your chaos. “It’s our hope these approaches will help you enjoy being at home even more,” say the couple.

Tip 1: Declutter and Organize

Start by decluttering and organizing. Here are some small steps to help with the process.

Step 1: Start small and prioritize

Spot the areas that need organizing. Start with the spaces that need the most attention, often the most frequently used and cluttered spaces.

Step 2: Tackle one area at a time

To avoid feeling overwhelmed, choose a single room, a closet, or even just one drawer or shelf.

Step 3: Sort items into categories

Keep, donate or trash, and then take immediate action with those items.

Step 4: Everything in its place

Create designated spaces for items to make them easier to find and keep organized.

Step 5: One in, one out

For every new or replacement item you bring in your home, donate or trash one item you no longer need or use.

Step 6: Make it a habit

Set aside time to tidy up. Seasonally declutter and donate or sell unnecessary items. Check the pantry prior to shopping and install slide-out shelving for easy access.

Step 7: Give it a name

Label storage boxes to find items quickly.

Tip 2: Use Calming Colors

Bring some peace and serenity to your home with a fresh coat of paint. Calming colors such as blue, green and purple have been shown to have a soothing effect on the mind, and can help to create a peaceful atmosphere in your home.

Tip 3: Add Plants

A touch of nature in your home is proven to do wonders for stress levels.

Tip 4: Incorporate Natural Elements

Wood, stone and water features can help create a peaceful environment. Natural elements can bring a sense of balance and reduce stress and anxiety.

Tip 5: Practice a Good Sleep Routine

To improve the quality of your sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, create a sleep-conducive environment and stick to a consistent sleep schedule.

Bonus Tip: Organize with Harmony Home Concepts

“Although we’re not health experts,” the couple says, “we are experts in solving storage and organization problems that can add to stress and anxiety in your home. Our clients have shared that our solutions, such as slide out shelves, custom closets, and wall-to-wall storage systems, have transformed their homes into calmer and easier-to-organize spaces, making them more functional and beautiful.”
