Celebrates 90th Birthday

Saturday, July 22, 2023, was a memorable and happy day as Lydia Faust celebrated the special occasion of her 90th birthday. More than 150 family members and friends packed the SPJST Lodge 9, Snook hall to honor Lydia and to enjoy an amazingly wonderful birthday party for her. Many special guests attended, and among them were SPJST President/CEO Brian Vanicek. Lydia is a longtime member of SPJST Lodge 9, Snook.

The conversations and laughter got so loud that one could hardly hear one another talking! Everyone was so happy to get together to celebrate Lydia, known to many as the “Queen of Kolaches.” To her children and siblings, she is the heart of the family and the glue that holds them closely together. To her friends, she is very loyal and always ready to lend a helping hand.

A huge and delicious meal of barbecue brisket and sausage with countless side dishes were prepared and served by Lydia’s family. A variety of birthday cakes were artfully displayed and enjoyed by all the guests. Of course, there were kolaches, too.

The day was all about good friends, good food, and good memories.

Diana then gave the treasurer’s report. John mentioned that the lodge management fund is now drawing 4 percent interest. In previous/old business, there was discussion about the number of members and guests who have confirmed a reservation to the luncheon. If we order more than 100 plates, each plate is $12 each. If we order 99 or less plates, it is $15 per plate. Dana made a motion that we order at least 100 plates for the luncheon. Michael Galler seconded, and the motion passed. There was discussion about door prizes. Jodie, Sr., made a motion to follow Diana’s suggestion to have 50 - $10 envelopes to give out as door prizes. The motion was seconded by John and passed. Diana had purchased a few decorations for tables, and Jodie, Sr., made a motion to reimburse her for the purchases. Seconded by Ron, the motion passed. Officers should be at Lodge 6 at 10:30 a.m. to help setup. Doors open for members at 11 a.m.

Dana then asked about setting up a bank account for the youth. She will follow up with Melanie Zavodny when she has a chance. Douglas then brought up the subject of where the school supplies that we are collecting should go. There was discussion, and Diana made a motion to donate to Tri-Cities for use at Connally ISD. Jodie, Sr., made an amendment to give them to Connally even if Tri-Cities is finished collecting before we are prepared to make our donations. Diana agreed to the amendment. John seconded the motion, and the motion was passed.

In new business, there was a discussion about the new SPJST ads. Then John gave us an update of upcoming events. It was suggested to give our July donation to the Home Office for use in the Veterans bags that the youth will be making at the State Youth Showcase. There was also a discussion about donating to the local Lacy Lakeview families who lost everything in the recent apartment building fire. John made a motion to present a check in the amount of $200 towards the Veterans project. The motion was seconded by Jodie, Sr., and passed.
