Delegates revise by-laws, elect district officials at 33rd SPJST Convention held in Killeen, Texas D
elegates representing 63 lodges from across Texas convened in Killeen August 14 and 15, 2021, for SPJST’s 33rd Convention. Activities began on Friday, August 13 with delegate registration followed by a howdy party that featured music by Jerry Haisler and Friends. Refreshments were also served. Convention Highlights Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek of Lodge 24, Cy-
clone called the 33rd Convention to order on Saturday, August 14. Aracely Quiz of Lodge 219, El Paso and Mark Rebecek of Lodge 79, Corpus Christi posted the colors. Sarah Urbanovsky of Lodge 79, Corpus Christi led the convention in the National Anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, and the Czech National Anthem, Kde Domov Muj? David Bucek of Lodge 151, Wharton then led the Pledge of Allegiance. Supreme Lodge Chief Financial Officer Leonard Mikeska of Lodge 200,
Bruceville-Eddy offered a convention prayer followed by greetings from Supreme Lodge Chair/District Three Director John Engelke of Lodge 66, Waco. President Vanicek then read a proclamation designating August 13 to 15 as “SPJST Days” in Killeen which was signed by City of Killeen Mayor Jose L. Segarra. A memorial acknowledgment was then presented by Supreme Lodge Vice President Delisle Doherty of Lodge 196, Houston-West in memory of departed members
who passed away since the 2016 Convention, including Jerry Mikulas, who served as Supreme Lodge Financial Secretary from 1960 to 2010; Michael K. Ahlstrom, who served as District Six Director from 2001 to 2012; Larry W. Pflughaupt, who served as District Five Director from 2000 to 2016; and Billy Rollwitz, Billy Rollwitz, who served as District Four Director from 2005 to 2018.
