King B. and Helen Fusig Hegwood Memorial Scholarship Fund Established SPJST proudly announces that the family of King B. and Helen Fusig Hegwood have established the King B. and Helen Fusig Hegwood Memorial Scholarship Fund. King B. and Helen Fusig Hegwood were active members of SPJST Lodge 88, Houston for many years. King was a member of the Men’s Club, and for more than 40 years, he popped popcorn at the SPJST hall on Thursday night bingos. This earned him the title of “Popcorn King.” H e l e n served the Home Office as District Five State Field Representative from 1989 to 1998. She also served in local lodge, district, and state roles throughout her 75-year membership. Helen was an award-winning sales agent for many years, receiving the
prestigious Million Dollar Producer Award each year from 1995 to 1999 and in 2001 and 2002. She will also be remembered for her beautiful voice with the Lodge 88 Czech Chorus. Where’s Waldo? The Facebook page NBC Olympics followed Lodge 154, Fort Worth member Rome Milan around the Olympics in 2016 in a “Where’s Waldo?” feature. Rome, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2018 has visited 422 Sokols in the Czech Republic. See his story on page 12.
Alfred Vrazel of Lodge 15, Buckholts celebrated his 80th birthday and 65th anniversary of hosting a weekly Czech radio program on radio station KMIL in Cameron on Sunday, September 6. He is pictured with daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Michael Morris during the live broadcast. More on page 19.
