SPJST Supreme Lodge met on January 21 and 22 at the Home Office in Temple for the quarterly meeting and to initiate Vision 2020, a three-year plan to improve and effectively integrate SPJST Home Office operations, utilizing technology, performance metrics, optimized processes, and strategic partnerships with the goal being to operate the Society in a way which is both productive and cost effective.
SPJST Recognizes Longtime Members on pages 9 to 13 SPJST extends its thanks and appreciation to the many members who are achieving membership landmarks in 2020. This Vestnik issue lists SPJST members achieving 50- and 75-years of membership in SPJST and Age 96 and Age 100 members. Congratulations to these honorees! Members who achieve “The Grand Age of 96” receive special recognition in
SPJST. At this special age, members are considered to have “outlived” the terms of their insurance certificate and are allowed to collect its proceeds. They remain members of SPJST with all the privileges and benefits of active members, but are not required to pay any dues or assessments. The 2020 honorees are listed on pages 9 to 13 of this week’s Vestnik. —SPJST—
After a fire destroyed Lodge 48, Beyersville on July 16, 2019, lodge members have begun the rebuilding process. Best wishes to the lodge. —Photo by Alice Bracewell, Secretary Six months after an accidental fire damaged SPJST Lodge 48, Beyersville hall on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, lodge members are taking steps to rebuild. Lodge 48 Property Committee Chairman Larry Beran says that bids have been submitted and presented to the members. “The pad has been built, and the plumber has come to do the rough-in on the plumbing,” he stated. “After the trenching, beams, and steel prep on the slab, we will be ready to pour the concrete. But it all depends on the weather . . . it should be around the first of February or so.” He explained the builder will then erect the metal, which Brother Larry anticipates should be completed around the first of March. The interior work - electric, air conditioning, lighting, and floor - will then begin. Lodge 48 was chartered in 1903. The hall was built in 1929 using lumber from
a church. In the early 1960s, the building underwent renovations, adding indoor bathrooms, storage room, kitchen area, bar, and space for tables. The lodge underwent renovations again in 2003 and the restorations were completed in 2006. The hall - which has touched many generations of people - is an important element in the community and has hosted many weddings, holiday celebrations, family reunions, and SPJST local lodge events and district meetings. Best wishes to Lodge 48 as they begin the rebuilding process. If you would like to contribute to the lodge’s rebuilding fund, please mail a donation check to SPJST Lodge 48, Beyersville in care of Bonnie Urbanek, Treasurer, at 6401 FM 1466 in Coupland, Texas 78615.
