PJST’s awesome state youth event is coming very quickly, and I hope that you are planning to spend Saturday, August 4 celebrating the dynamic youth of our great organization!

Get Well Soon, Director Jesse District Two Director Jesse Pospisil spent part of last week in the hospital as the result of a fall. He has a thoracic compression fracture of the spine. He will be wearing a back brace for a while. Our thoughts and prayers are with Director Pospisil for a speedy recovery and complete healing.

Corpus Christi Getaway Rooms are still available for the Corpus Christi Getaway, and Thursday, July 26 is the last day to reserve at the “SPJ” rate. After that, rates go up to summer prices. See page 10 for details.

Corrections Kadnce Meyer’s name was spelled incorrectly in the youth merit point listing that appeared in the July 4 Vestnik. Kadnce is a member of Lodge 187, Round Rock in District Two. In the Crock Pot Enchiladas recipe that appeared in the July 4 Vestnik, the recipe calls for “beefy mushroom soup.” To make the beefy mushroom soup, add 1 beef bullion cube.

Crock Pot Enchiladas Jennifer McCarthy Lodge 187, Round Rock 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1 can beefy mushroom soup (add 1 beef bouillon cube) 1 can Cheddar cheese soup 1 can enchilada sauce 1 can chopped green chilies 1 medium onion, chopped 2 lbs. ground beef, browned and drained 1 (10-oz.) bag Doritos chips Combine all ingredients, except the chips, and place in Crock Pot. Do not add water to soup. Cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours. Just before serving, fold entire bag of chips into mixture.

Hello, Věstnik!

Would you like some Czechs to come to Texas and teach Czech for a week-long camp?

I write this with a bit of irony, but also in an entrepreneurial spirit!

My wife and I are with the Evangelical Free Church international mission organization, ReachGlobal. We are missionaries in Prague, Czech Republic.

My wife Vicky teaches at the Christian International School of Prague. I teach English at the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Prague. We attend a Czech church. And every year, our Czech church hosts an English camp to meet the needs of Czechs who need/want to speak English. Our home church in Kingwood, Texas, (Houston) sends Americans to help teach native English.

This year, one of the Czech elders, Honza Dohnalek, said he cannot imagine why the Americans give up a week of vacation to teach English. (I can imagine . . . Czech Republic is beautiful in the summer time . . . and our American friends love their Czech Christian brothers and sisters.) But Honza concluded, “Can you imagine Americans asking us to come over and teach Czech? Would I give up vacation to do that?”

So, today, I received a letter from a friend with an article from the Tex Appeal magazine about Věstnik. I read how some of your readers want to learn some Czech. So what do you think of this idea of a week-long camp in Texas to learn Czech . . . the same way we

Lodge 15, Buckholts grateful to Tri-Co Propane The meeting of SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts was held on Monday, July 9, 2018. President Mary Rodriguez called the meeting to order, and Vice President Scott Brandon led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence for our departed members especially our past president Doug Williams, who passed away only last month. Our condolences go out to his wife Virginia, their children, and grandchildren. We sure miss not being able to pick up the phone and ask Doug’s advice on lodge matters. He did so very much for the lodge and is greatly missed.

Sandi Fischer gave the treasurer’s report. All officers were present.

The Wednesday night hamburger/ pool playing is steadily increasing. Mary Helen has already made enough to buy and install a new kitchen door. Last week, she served meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and green beans, while adding French fries to the menu. Since we are using the grill so much more, we needed to change from bottle gas to a tank so we called good friend Jackie Walzel at TriCo Propane. Jack is Dorothy Tomascik’s son. When we inquired as to the rental price, we were told Tri-Co is donating the tank for a minimal monthly fee and donating the first 100 gallons of gas! I was so happy, I cried! Thank you so much Tri-Co Propane!

We want to thank Mary Irene Burtis and Marguerite H. Burtis (Hilda’s girls) and Peter Vogel for their generous donations to our lodge in memory of Doug Williams. They said every time they see that beautiful roof, they think of Doug.

Lodge 25, Ennis invites all to activities Dear Readers, On Thursday July 12, 2018, our monthly members’ supper was served at 6:30 p.m. Betty Macalik was on a well deserved vacation. Therefore, this month’s meal was kept simple with taco salad, sandwich and vegetable trays, a variety of chips, and cake for dessert.

Thank you to all the members who chipped in for the meal. We missed you, Betty!

The monthly lodge meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. by President JoAnn Needham with Margaret Krajca leading the members in the Pledge of

Allegiance. A moment of silence was held in memory of Jim Holahan and Geraldine Nekuza. On the sick list were Tori Motley and Pappa John Marek.

Secretary Pat Fowler read the minutes to the June meeting. She then gave the treasury and financial reports. Laure Krajca gave the bar report. FAC Kay Lynn Kovar reported on the upcoming state summer getaway in Corpus Christi on August 10 to 12.

Youth Leader Rita Holland, that our local member Misty Dvorak was crowned District Three Queen on June 23. She and her duchess Aubrey Roberts will compete for the state title at YAD on Saturday, August 4. Congratulations, Misty, and good luck at state! Rita also reported that the youth had a swim party in conjunction with the local KJT youth on July 6.

Sales Agent Margaret Krajca reported two new members - Haley Ryan and Tucker Rudd. She also reported one member pending.

Under old business, it was reported that the dancehall will be closed for ceiling painting and repairs from July 30 to August 10. There will be no rentals during this period. We were reminded that the monthly social events, lodge meeting, and the bar hours will be not be affected during this scheduled closure.

Lodge 29, Taylor plans Sept. 28-29 barbecue cookoff On Wednesday, July 11, 2018, President Ronnie Rieger called the meeting of Lodge 29, Taylor to order. He led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence for the departed. Officer roll call showed Mike Girod absent. The June minutes were read and approved.

Tammy Cannon gave the treasurer’s report. Vice President Sharon Kaderka reminded us of the Corpus Getaway in August.

Cristy Girod gave the youth report.

We had six Lodge 29 youth attend District Two camp. On July 14, District Two will have its Youth Achievement Day (YAD) at Lodge 24, Cyclone. On August 4, State YAD will be in Temple.

For the June meeting, the youth went to the movies.

Jesse Pospisil reported the cold drink box downstairs went out and will be replaced next week. The property committee discussed liability issues with the barbecue pit area deteriorating outside the hall. Frankie Pustejovsky made a motion to have someone take it down, and Leonard Kaderka seconded. The motion passed. The committee also voted to have gravel put around the hall to fill all the potholes. They also voted to have the electrical line connected to the barbecue pit rerouted to the sheds in back of the hall.

The property committee also discussed reserving tables on Friday nights.

Only two tables can be reserved for a

VĚSTNÍK birthday party on Friday nights, and someone has to sit at the tables until 7:30 p.m. when the music begins. If the chairs are not being used, the party has to allow other visitors to be seated at their table.

Barbecue Cookoff Ronnie discussed the upcoming barbecue cookoff on September 28 and 29 and asked members to think about sponsors. The barbecue appreciation dinner will be in August. We would appreciate if members can bring desserts for the meal.

Sharon Beran made a motion for Lodge 29 to purchase a ticket for the Taylor 4H/FFA Fundraiser in August.

Jesse Pospisil seconded, and the motion passed. Frankie and Mary Jane Pustejovsky will represent the hall.

President Cathy Garcia called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and we had a mo-

ment of silence for the deceased men in the service protecting our country, the government, and the sick members of our lodge.

The minutes were read by President Garcia. They were approved as read.

There were no additions or corrections.

She also gave the treasurer’s report for Treasurer Inez Villarreal. Ardis Bacak made a motion with a second by Mary Ann Cerny to approve the treasurer’s report. The members voted and approved the report.

President Cathy read the communications from the SPJST Home Office.

Vlasta Bartos - Cemetery Committee - had nothing to report.

President Cathy gave her youth leader report. She reported that her youth were busy getting ready for YAD, which will be held at the Taiton Community Center on Sunday, July 15 at 10 a.m. She also reported that several of her youth were getting ready for camp.

Lodge members welcomed District Six Director Karen Kaspar. Karen gave a short report from the SPJST Home Office. Thank you, Karen, for attending the meeting.

Lodge 81, Needville discusses hall repairs The July 2018 meeting of SPJST Lodge 81, Needville was held on Sunday, the 15th. At 12 noon, a prayer of thanks was given by President Vincent Newman, and everyone enjoyed a meal of barbecue plates which were bought by the lodge from the Beasley Fire Department fundraiser. Desserts were provided by the members. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Emma Kujawa and her kitchen committee for getting everything ready for us.

President Vincent Newman called the business meeting to order at 1 p.m.

Willie Mae Kuykendall led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. All officers answered the roll except Treasurer Bradley Stavinoha. Added to our sick list was Johnny Blinka. We hope you feel better soon.

Also, under new business, Dan Natho mentioned a new organization called Fort Bend Helping Heroes will be having a fundraiser at our lodge on July 29.

Under other business, Youth Leader Madelyn Gadway gave a report on the youth club. She said they just returned from a camping trip, and everyone enjoyed being there.

Door prize winners were Dorothy Kuban, Emma Kujawa, Rosemary Pieper, and Willie Mae Kuykendall. We had a few extra plates so they were given as door prizes. Those who won plates were Sean Parker, Aileen Janik, Gloria Wood, Joyce Lamensky, Joyce Pesak, Dan Natho, and George Abschneider. Congratulations to all the winners!

Lodge 84, Dallas members enjoy annual lake social Dear Readers, Lodge 84, Dallas members held their annual picnic social and meeting on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the lake house of President Justine Yeager on Cedar Creek. The meeting was brought to order by President Yeager at 3:30 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Flag Bearer Lynda Novak, and a moment of silence was held for our departed members and troops afterward.

Thank you, President Yeager, for generously sharing your lake house with us! As always, your sons did a marvelous job of smoking the brisket and preparing the beans.

Secretary Cherri Petr read the minutes from the previous month, and all were approved by those present. Old

and new business was then reported by President Yeager. FAC Vicki Sims reminded everyone about the Corpus Christi getaway and reported there was no sunshine report because everyone was staying healthy.

Youth Leader Lynda Novak reported the youth attended District Three Youth Achievement Day on Saturday, June 23 and that we will have youth representing at State YAD on Saturday, August 4 in Temple! Congratulations to Kendall, Josh, and Kalyne Tucker for all three placing first with their constructed items entries! The youth also met earlier, and they presented our monthly charity, Restored Hope, to Sister Theresa Liska.

Youth Leader Lynda congratulated all the youth for their participation at District Three YAD in June before the youth adjourned.

There was then a brief discussion about still seeking the perfect location for our new lodge. In the meantime, I ask that you continue to watch the Vestnik for where our next monthly meeting will be held.

The meeting was then adjourned, and everyone went for desserts and more fellowship!

Lodge 88, Houston swimming pool to return We are bringing the pool back to Lodge 88, Houston! Actually, it’s multiple pools this time.

First, we need to complete our site plan and have our budgets approved.

But in the interim, you can claim a spot in line on the wait list for when memberships are put up for sale.

Rather than have Lodge 88 take on a significant amount of debt to build, Swim Club members will bear all costs directly. Here is how it will work: • Must be a member of Lodge 88, • Buy a refundable bond in the club for your entire household.

• Expected cost of $5,000 each. Bonds funds will be used for construction.

• Your bond is refunded at its original purchase price when you resign one day and a replacement bond is sold to another member.

• Pay annual dues of $800 to $1,000 each year to cover the operating expenses.

Lodge 180, Burleson members meet, enjoy pizza social Lodge 180, Burleson’s monthly meeting was held later in the month than usual because of the July 4 holiday and the many different celebrations taking place with different folks involved.

We opened the meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2018, at the Police Department Community Room in Burleson with the Pledge of Alliance followed by several moments of silent prayer remembering all of our loved ones and those that are dear to us as well as all of our military, police, and government officials. I quoted an old saying stating that I did not know a single person that was not in need of prayer.

All officers were present for the meeting with the exception of Carmon Babina, our secretary, who was out and not feeling too perky. Several of our other members were out traveling and enjoying the northern weather in Michigan. They were Verna Mason and Sandy Almonte and her son Logan. Dena Bowden was attending a birthday party for her grandson and was not able to be with us. By the way, happy birthday to Dena’s grandson! All of our members were greatly missed with hopes that they will be back for the August meeting.

We were honored to have Pat and Robert Sill of Lodge 183, Arlington join with us for our meeting. It is always such a joy to have them visit with us.

The minutes and financial reports were given by Rhonda Hurtik with both reports being approved as read.

The name for our monthly donation was Carmon Babina with a donation of $100 going to St. Joseph Indian School.

What a pleasure to be able to donate to this facility.

Our monthly drawings went to Robert Sill, who won a gift card to Olive Garden, and Joe Hurtik, who won a gift card to IHOP. We sure had a couple of smiley faces!

The meeting was adjourned, and we went to the MoonTower Pizza place in the old part of Burleson. Talk about a crowd! I think that we had the last available table with eight of us crowded around two small tables. As the old saying goes, “we were elbow to elbow!”

Bless those two waiters’ hearts . . . they were blessed to not only deal with us, but all of the other patrons as well.

During the evening after we received our meals, we were enjoying our food and drinks. We had an episode, and I doubt if I will even be able to describe what happened, but I will make an at-

tempt! So here goes . . . Joe B. was sitting next to me and for some reason, we were trying to help clear some of the table. Joe asked me to raise the metal plate holding my pizza (which was sitting on another metal plate). While trying to raise my plate, somehow that pizza on my plate began to move. The decorated frisbee that looked like a pizza was moving all over the place. First, it was moving in my direction - then moving closer to Joe Babina - and then moving toward Leon Flusche (sitting at the end of the table). I have never seen so much action from a flat round disc in my life! Everyone at the table was laughing so hard. I thought that I would have a coronary laughing at them! Their eyes were about the size of saucers, and I am sure that mine were as large as theirs!

All that I can say, was that everyone really enjoyed that at my expense, and I am still trying to figure what happened in the first place. Seems like everyone on our side of the table was trying to stop that pizza from moving. Only the

pizza fairy knows for sure!

After we regained our sanity, we enjoyed birthday cake to honor Leon Flusche and Ernest Kelly. Pat Sill baked a German chocolate cake, and it was absolutely delicious. I am so sorry that our other July birthday celebrants were not able to join with us and enjoy the cake as well as the lemon bundt cake bought by the lodge. July birthday people were Claudia Esquivel, Fabian Soria, Jr., Sandy Almonte, Don Thomas, Bradley Janek, Leon Flusche, Renee Greenlees, Ernest Kelly, Jr., Meredith Cox, and Chester Bean. We wish many happy birthday greetings to these folks.

Lodge 187 Round Rock members celebrate Fourth of July Hello there!

The meeting was held on Sunday, July 8, 2018. We started with going over all the upcoming events and discussed about whom will be joining in on the fun. We then talked about all the fireworks that were going on to celebrate the Fourth of July.

Rubie Volek then brought up that we have a new member who wanted to be voted in and accepted into our lodge. We all took a vote, and it was “yes”! We hope to see her soon.

It was discussed and voted on that we will all meet at the District Two Fall Fun Day on Sunday, August 26 at Lodge 47, Seaton.

Fort Worth Friendship Club Members of Fort Worth Friendship Club met Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Golden Corral on Alta Mere Drive for our annual “dining out” lunch. We had a nice group to attend, and all enjoyed the visiting. No meeting was planned, but we did sing “Happy Birthday” to our July celebrants Stanley Krenek and Margaret Laymance. May you have many more. All enjoyed lunch, and there were lots of trips back for more food. No one went home hungry.

President Barbara stated hostesses for August will be Margaret Laymance and Sherrill Gustavson, and they will also pick up the chicken. The theme for August will be “beach” so wear your tropical clothes. No bikinis, please!

Remember, we meet at the church. Barbara also reminded everyone that August is a designated month in which we support St. Thomas Food Pantry with nonperishable food items, or you can donate cash. She also reported we would have a speaker at the August meeting Maddie Gibbs from the City of Fort Worth who will speak on recycling.

Once again, we will be having the prize drawing at the Corpus Christi Getaway. At the District Seven Spring Meeting, the membership voted to donate the proceeds from the end of summer prize drawing to the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center and SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC).

Our sympathy goes out to Helen Skrasek and Adele Strand on the passing of their cousin Mildred (Sonka) McDonald of Cedar Creek. May her soul rest in peace. Recently, I was invited by Helen and Adele, along with other Skrasek family members, to go to SPJST Lodge 92, Fort Worth for a barbecue lunch and to listen to the dancing music of the Texas Dutchmen from Houston. I did recognize several musicians playing from Ennis, and Harold Strand was even invited to play the keyboard with them. Everyone knows that Harold did have his own band at one time, and he certainly enjoyed playing with the group - he was so natural at this. We all had a good time.

Last month, when I wrote about all the items Tracy Horn donated to the Czech Heritage Museum in Temple, I missed a few important items. There was also a Czech Catechism that originally belonged to her father, Vincent Luza of Bryan, and a wheel used to draw water from the well. But the one

big item I missed was a button accordion that belonged to Tracy. She said she learned to play on her own and never had any lessons. At age 13, she played the accordion in a talent show in school.

Her dad had a band. They played at house dances, weddings, birthdays, and mainly, it was for entertainment down on the farm. I asked Tracy when did she stop playing, and she said that after she married and her kids were born, she didn’t have time to play. Had we known that Tracy can play the accordion, we could have asked her to play for us at the Friendship Club. I called Tracy to get this information on her accordion playing talent and was sorry to hear that she was going to the doctor. I hope all turns out okay with your appointment. Rejcek family The bi-annual Rejcek reunion will be Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Martin’s Hall in Tours, Texas. All descendants and friends of Anton Rejcek, Sr., Mary Picha, Florian Rejcek, Joe Rejcek, Theresa Devin, John Rejcek, Bessie Kaska, and Valentine Frank Rejcek are invited to attend and join in the fun.

Registration begins at 2 p.m. with a cover charge of $5 for singles, $8 for couples, or $12 for families and followed by bingo and games. A covered dish meal will be served at 5 p.m., and each family is requested to bring enough food for their family and guests. Tableware, coffee, and tea will be provided.

Cicadas sing to me in the morning when I go out in the yard they are my companions serenading me vociferously hidden yet heard a choir up in the trees oh I know it is really the sound of their contracting abdomens but I like to think they are actually singing in full voice music to my ears the waltz of the Cicadas played every morning expressing the joy of a new morning the pure happiness of being alive what a nice memory they leave each summer recalled in the rattle of their sound how sad summer would be without the chorus of Cicadas how empty the day without their vibrant song without it there would be little joy without them there would be no summer.

In Memory of Jim Holahan

In Memory of Alvin Franta

James Francis Holahan, Jr., age 69, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Sunday, July 1, 2018.

James was born in Dallas on December 19, 1948, to James F. and Sadie Doris (Britt) Holahan, Sr. He grew up in Dallas and graduated from WilmerHutchins High School in 1967.

He went on to receive his associate’s degree in liberal arts from El Centro College.

On April 5, 1986, he married Linda Groce. They made Jim Holahan their home in Ennis.

He worked as a co-owner for Tietze’s Wholesale for many years and was a florist his entire working life.

He was a former member of First United Methodist Church of Ennis and was a member of the Cowboy Church of Ennis.

He was a member of SPJST Lodge 25, Ennis and Telico Fire Department.

He enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda G. Holahan; sons Justin Hoggatt and wife Robin and Gary Teer, Jr. and wife Tracy; daughters Courtney Sancillo and husband Dietrich and April Jarvis; seven grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; sister Jeannie Lucky; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service was held on Monday, July 9 at 2 p.m. in J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.

Betty Macalik Lodge 25, Ennis —SPJST—

Alvin Albert Franta, 94, passed away on July 1, 2018.

He was born on November 22, 1923, to Rudolph G. Franta and Hermina Marek Franta. Alvin was raised in Crosby, Texas, and graduated from Crosby High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army as a sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946.

In 1947, he married Steazie Kovalcik. Alvin retired from ExxonMobil Refinery after 35 years.

Alvin Franta He attended Sacred Heart Church in Crosby where he was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus.

Alvin was a member of American Legion and RVOS. He was also a longstanding member of SPJST Lodge 91, San Jacinto where he served as president for many years and was an active member until his recent illness. He and his wife Steazie loved dancing and took pride in leading wedding marches. He enjoyed yardwork, gardening, and barbecuing for his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Steazie Franta; parents Rudolph and Hermina Franta; sisters Doris Warzon and Irene Franta; and brother Robert Franta.

Alvin is survived by daughters Linda Twardowski and husband Leonard, Shirley Buell and husband Carl, and Annette Bielamowicz and husband Raymond; son Randy Franta and wife Judy; 10 grandchildren and their spouses; 23 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers were Ryan Franta, Darren Bielamowicz, Brandon Buell, Eric Twardowski, Justin Bielamowicz, Phillip Buell, and Neal Carlson.

Visitation and funeral mass were held on Wednesday, July 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crosby.

Memorial donations may be made in Alvin’s memory to Sacred Heart Catholic School, 907 Runneburg Road, Crosby, Texas 77532; phone number 281-328-6561.

Our deepest sympathy to his family.

Alvin will be greatly missed by all of us at SPJST Lodge 91, San Jacinto.

State YAD Saturday, August 4 Mayborn Center in Temple SPJST will showcase its youth at State Youth Achievement Day (YAD) on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at the Frank W. Mayborn Civic and Convention Center, located at 3303 North Third Street in Temple.

Registration from 9 to 10 a.m.

All youth participants must register their entries between 9 and 10 a.m. in

the lobby of the convention center. Royalty contestants are asked to meet at the stage for a brief rehearsal and further instructions at 9:30 a.m. - after they register their entries.

I had so much fun at District Two Youth Achievement Day (YAD). We have been practicing the beseda for months. We were able to dance the

beseda for everyone. It is fun and a little hot to dress up.

Youth will compete in a special category contest at 10 a.m. in the dining room. This contest is left a surprise to all competitors until the day of the event.

Opening Ceremonies at 11 a.m.

The day’s program begins with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. Lunch will be catered by Ratibor Country Grill. It will include a hamburger, chips, cookie, and tea for $6 and be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Concession food will be available throughout the day.

SPJST youth who received first place honors at their district competitions across Texas this summer will compete at the state level in various competitions, including group and individual talent, speech, nine craft categories, special category, and youth club poster and scrapbook. Following judging, crafts, special category entries, posters, and scrapbooks will be displayed for the public.

Talent competition begins at approximately 11:45 a.m. Young people who have completed kindergarten to high school senior will compete in dance, vocal, instrumentals, and dramatics. The Ceska Beseda dance exhibition will be

Silent Auction of Quick Breads This year’s dessert category is quick bread. Following judging, quick breads will be sold in a silent auction to the highest bidders. All proceeds will go to the SPJST Scholarship Fund.

State Royalty Competition A reception honoring the youth will be held prior to the State Royalty competition. 2017-2018 State King Austen Holland, State Queen April Dvorak, State Duke Maison Holland, and State Duchess Madison Holland, all of Lodge 25, Ennis, will then preside over the 2018 SPJST State Royalty Competition which begins at approximately 2:30 p.m. The king and queen are selected on the basis of a prepared three-minute speech during which they are scored on content, delivery, and overall poise.

Interstate 35 construction is causing a bit of confusion on how to get to the Mayborn Convention Center.

Please plan ahead, leave earlier, and give yourself plenty of time to travel to State YAD at the Mayborn Center!

Northbound I-35 traffic will exit at a temporary #304, just north of Industrial/Spur 290.

When you exit, safely change lanes into the far right lane and exit into the Mayborn Center entrance on Bellaire. Southbound will use exit 304 and stay straight on the access road through the traffic light and continue to the loop back north at Industrial Drive. After you cross the bridge and enter the northbound frontage road, you will need to get into the far right lane. Keep to the right til you reach the entrance to the Mayborn Center. The new I35 access road northbound has now opened which will be the road to take to Bellaire Drive and the entrance to the Mayborn.

District Two youth invited to swim party this Friday Dear Youth Members, Another big District Two youth event is coming up this Friday, July 27 at Walker Pool, 2603 North Third Street in Temple, from 7 to 9 p.m. Bring your friends! Dear Vestnik Readers, I have been having fun so far this summer. I went to camp and competed in YAD for the first time this year. I had very, very, very fun at camp. We did activities, games, swimming, and bb gun practice. I made a new friend.

I had fun at YAD. For lunch, we had salads and spaghetti. It was good. I liked watching everybody’s talents. I won third place and second place. I was excited that I got a lot of money.

Lodge 84, Dallas Youth Club members earn honors at District Three YAD Dear Readers, The youth of Lodge 84, Dallas met Sunday, July 15, 2018, at the lake house of our mother lodge President Justine Yeager for our annual fun, fellowship, and monthly meeting.

The meeting was brought to order at 2:50 p.m. by Youth Leader Lynda Novak, and the Pledge of Allegiance was led by Flag Bearer Kalyne Tucker with a moment of silence afterwards. The youth presented a check to Theresa Liska for

our charity project, Restored Hope. Old and new business was discussed.

“Bohemians in America” book to be published; seeking sponsorships Dear Friends, As you all know, this October we will celebrate the centennial anniversary of Czechoslovak independence. The T. G. Masaryk School was approached by the publisher of the Great Czechs series including Antonín Dvořák, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, Charles IV., and Comenius – which some of you already own – with a request for help with the distribution of a new volume in the United States.

The author and award-winning illustrator Renáta Fučíková, has now been working on a bilingual (Czech and English) book about Czechs in the United States titled “Bohemians in America” scheduled to be published this fall to commemorate not only great individuals but also the important role the Czech community played in the founding of Czechoslovakia.

This large format, fully illustrated book will be available on the Czech market for $35. However, the publisher is offering a special campaign for prescribers within our community who will be featured in the publication.

As the book is still in pre-production, Czech organizations in the United States have the opportunity to be acknowledged in the publication with a special dedication or even a portrait illustrated by the artist, depending on the level of sponsorship.
