Many of the visitors to the Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center (CHMGC), located at 119 West French Street in downtown Temple, Texas, find it through online travel websites and travel apps. In fact, the Museum is frequently listed in the top three sites to visit in the area. CHMGC is a great place to visit during the Christmas holiday season - or a n y t i m e throughout the year. Hours are T u e s d a y through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by appointment. Please call 254-8992935 for more information or for holiday hours. You can also email czechheritagemuseum@gmail.com or visit www.czechheritagemuseum.com. Admission is $4 for adults; $3 for seniors; and $2 for children. Here is just a sample of some of the reviews from TripAdvisor.com. Great resource with knowledgeable guide. My dad and I went for a visit after I found this museum on Trip Advisor. The guide was patient with (my dad’s) questions and helped him find information in the library regarding our relatives from the 1800s. There was much more in the museum than I expected. Great to visit, especially if you are of Czech descent.
Small but nice place to explore Texas Czech heritage. I confess, I have lived in Temple for years, and didn’t go to the Czech Heritage Museum until June 2017! My familial Czech heritage came through Ellis Island then into Nebraska. It was fun to look at some traditional costumes, some household items, and other things the Texas Czech settlers used. Most of these settlers came through Galveston Island and settled directly in Texas. The children’s film prepared by a local volunteer group tried to relate this heritage to the heritage of many other nationalities of people who settled in Texas. There is a charge, although I went when the museum had international visitors, so there was no charge that day. Instead, I donated money to the Museum! If your family immigrated to the U.S. with one of the waves of people in the 1800s, you would probably find this an interesting museum, although I don’t know how people lived here during summer before air conditioning!
