SPJST Annuities: Excellent Way to Accumulate Money

Annuities are long-term, tax-deferred savings plans that provide lump sum funds, income for life, or income for a fixed period of time. They are an excellent way to accumulate money for retirement or other purposes. SPJST’s Traditional IRA or a Roth IRA may be purchased as an SPJST annuity. This year, you can contribute for 2017 until April 16, 2018. However, there are some limitations. For example, for 2017, the maximum you can contribute to a Traditional or Roth IRA is the smaller of $5,500 ($6,500 if you are age 50 or older) or an amount determined by your modified AGI for the current year. Both the Traditional and Roth IRA annuity amounts may be subject to additional penalties if withdrawn early. In addition to the Traditional IRA and Roth IRA, SPJST

also offers flexible premium annuities, five-year fixed annuities as well as 10-year fixed annuities. These annuities also grow tax deferred and can provide a source of income as well. SPJST’s fixed annuities do not have annual contribution limits or the income restrictions that IRAs have. SPJST surrender charges will apply to your annuity contract if early withdrawals are made. Annuities also offer some tax advantages over that of a bank CD. With a bank CD, you may have taxes every year as the interest accrued. However, with an annuity, income tax is deferred as long as the funds remain in the annuity. Please contact your annuity-certified agent or the Home Office at 1-800-727-7578 for more information. —SPJST—
