Thanks to Lodge 88, Houston Sales Agent Margaret Norris-Guerrero for sharing this special photo of longtime Lodge 88 member Josephine Pflughaupt as she plays bingo while son Larry calls the numbers on Thursday, April 20.

Lodge 48, Beyersville Youth Club recognized Arbor Day by commemorating past youth leader Denisse Wuensche and planting a tree in her honor on the lodge hall grounds. Youth Leader Michelle Newsom also presented a stone in memory of Denisse to the family and lodge for her service and dedication to SPJST. Sister Wuensche devoted many years of service to Lodge 48 and was youth leader in 2003 and 2004. She lost her battle with cancer in 2009. Pictured by the tree and stone are youth club members Makayla and Brooke Newsom and Kayla, Trevor, and Trent Wuensche; Denisse’s parents Honorary District Two Director Bobby and Ruth Ann Wuensche; and siblings Paula Kennedy and John Wuensche. Members of Lodge 133, San Antonio celebrated the 100th anniversary of the lodge chartering. The chartering ceremony took place on March 18, 1917, in the Woodmen of the World Hall. There were 37 charter members. The ceremony started at 3 p.m. with 46 people in attendance from places like Yorktown, Floresville, and West Texas. The first officers were Fred Maly, president; K. J. Hanak, secretary; Rose Gold, bookkeeper; K. Faigl, treasurer, Josef Vanek, guard; L. Steffek, outside guard; and Ed Valicek, inside guard. Lodge 133 has played a significant role in the growth of SPJST and even hosted two SPJST state conventions in 1960 Continued on Page 21. and 1980.
