The Six Mile community (near Port Lavaca, Texas in Calhoun County) recently celebrated a land donation to the Six Mile Volunteer Fire Department. SPJST Lodge 41, Port Lavaca donated approximately two acres of vacant land located at the northwest corner of Farm-to-Market 1090 and Royal Road to Six Mile VFD at a ceremony held across the road at the Six Mile Assembly of God Church. SPJST are the initials of the Czech pronunciation of the organization, which is Slovanska Podporujici Jednota Statu Texas. Translated to English, it means

Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas, President Brian Vanicek said. Franklin Jurek, president of Lodge 41, welcomed those who attended the event, including elected county officials, Six Mile VFD members and firefighters, SPJST members, and many from the community. Pastor Johnny Kisiah opened the ceremony with a prayer. “It’s a blessing to be here with you in Six Mile, and it’s a great advantage to us to have the fire station right across from the church,” Kisiah said. “We are so thankful and grateful for this exchange of land, and we’re just going to pray that the Lord will bless it.” Jurek told attendees the history of the land.
