ctober is Czech Heritage Month in Texas, and we will kick off the month in next week’s Vestnik with special features and fun activities that we hope you will participate in. Organizations and counties across the state will be celebrating Czech Heritage Month in many ways. I challenge you to celebrate and recognize Czech heritage in October. Here are some ideas from Svacina Project by Dawn Orsak of Lodge 187, Round Rock.

• Play tarok - find someone in your community to teach you.

• Bake something Czech, even if you do it poorly.

• Visit the Czech-related museums in La Grange, Schulenburg, Temple, Houston, San Antonio.

• Go to a polka dance, even if you sit on the sidelines visiting.

• Patronize your local Czech meat market or Czech bakery.

• Attend a Czech event in October. If an audience doesn’t show up, the church picnics, cultural festivals, and baking contests will stop happening.

• Tune in to a polka radio show they’re all over Texas and on the internet, too.

• Join your local Czech club, heritage, or genealogy society. Clubs statewide consistently say, “How do we get younger people involved?”

• Enroll your children in Sokol, if

they’re interested in gymnastics.

There are Sokol units in Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, West, and Ennis.

• Recall those Czech phrases you learned as a kid - speaking a few words in Czech or a prayer will help keep the culture alive a little longer.

Design an SPJST Float We are looking for new themes and designs for our two SPJST Floats, and we need your help. The floats travel across Texas throughout the year promoting SPJST. Put your creative thinking cap on, and share your thoughts today! See complete details on page 13 of this week’s Vestnik.

Calendar Dates Can you believe it is almost time to hang a new SPJST calendar on the wall? We are putting together next year’s 2016 calendar, and we are seeking lodge, district, and youth club dates to include on it.

These should be annual events and not monthly events. Please send your dates/events to the Vestnik office no later than October 1. Complete details are on page 5. We look forward to hearing from you.

From the Supreme Lodge Vice President Three Myths about Life Insurance

Over the coming months, I would like to write to you, the Vestnik readers, to give a greater understanding of life insurance concepts and ideas. Life insurance can be a difficult discussion topic with a lot of misunderstandings surrounding the purchase process.

Some of the more common myths is that life insurance is too difficult to understand, too expensive, and if you are healthy you don’t need it. That confusion is part of the reason 54 percent of Americans say it’s unlikely they’ll buy life insurance within the next year.

Three Myths about Life Insurance Myth 1: It’s expensive.

The greatest misunderstanding about life insurance is frequently about cost. According to the 2015 Insurance Barometer Study from Life Happens and LIMRA, 80 percent of those surveyed overestimated the price for a given policy. This is especially true with millennials, who, on average, overestimated the cost of insurance by 213 percent and Gen Xers, who overestimated the cost by 119 percent. I would encourage you to contact your agent or the SPJST Home Office and ask for a quote. You might be pleasantly surprised by the affordability of coverage.

Myth 2: The choices are overwhelming.

It’s true that there are many varieties

of life insurance but that doesn’t mean it needs to be a difficult choice. If a person has a need for insurance for a specified time or reason - such as paying off a mortgage or paying for a child’s college - a term type product is best. If a person is looking to build cash value and would like to pay the same amount without worrying about increases in cost, a permanent product is best. Most people need a combination of term and permanent products to ensure they are covered for any situation. If you need some help, SPJST agents are available to advise you on what product or products will best suit your needs.

Myth 3: If you are young and healthy, you don’t need it.

Life insurance needs depend on many factors, but if possible, it’s better to buy a policy when you’re young and healthy and it costs less. If you wait until there are health problems, it may be too late. There was a situation just a few weeks ago where a person in their 30s was considering a policy; however, they had an acute medical condition and an extended hospital stay. Now they are possibly uninsurable by any company because of their condition. If they had purchased a life insurance product beforehand, they would not have to worry about being denied a policy and could have had greater peace of mind.

District Four Fall Fun Day Saturday, October 3 in Abilene

The District Four Fall Fun Day and Youth Outing will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015. The youth will go to Abilene Zoo at 1 p.m. which is located at 2070 Zoo Lane in Abilene.

Registration for Fall Fun Day will begin at 4 p.m. The evening meal begins at 5:30 p.m. The location will be Lytle Land and Cattle Company at 1150 East South 11th in Abilene.

A Christmas ornament contest for all youth club members will be held during the evening meal.

Please invite all lodge members, and please RSVP by September 23. We

District Three Presents Uncorrected Spring Meeting Minutes Sunday, April 26, 2015

At 11:04 a.m., President Selby Holder called meeting to order. Flag Bearer Quinlan Dobecka led Pledge of Allegiance, and Flag Bearer Preston Sullivan led youth motto.

Lodge 6, Cottonwood President Milton Peterson welcomed all members. President Selby Holder thanked Lodge 6 for hosting the spring meeting and welcomed the visitors - District Three Director John Engelke and wife Diana, Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska, and State Youth Director Lynette Talasek.

Assistant District Three Youth Counselor CarrieAnn Jones read a list of deceased members as youth handed flowers out to lodge members present from their respective lodge. Flowers were to be placed in special places for family and friends to see, walk by and say a prayer.

At 11:20 a.m., youth were dismissed.

Second Vice President Cheryl Petr read names of age 96, 75- and 50-year members, and fraternalists of the year.

Nominating committee members were Ann Pustejovsky, Debra Daniel, and Jennifer Dvorak. Audit committee members were Karen Sonnenberg and Michael Galler.

Ann Pustejovsky made motion to accept the minutes as they were printed in the Vestnik. Diana Engelke seconded the motion, and it passed.

Treasurer Mary Steinman was ill.

She said she would get the books to the audit committee.

The Insurance Committee had no report. By-Laws/Rules and Regulations - Kay Lynn Kovar asked if everyone had read over the by-law changes that were published in the Vestnik. Everyone said yes.

Betty Macalik’s recommendation was for different halls to host district meetings and district youth achievement days (YAD). Betty Macalik made a motion for other halls to rotate and take district meetings and District YADs. Tony Vitovsky seconded the motion. Discussion followed. The motion did not pass.

John Engelke informed all members that the by-laws/rules and regulations that are changed will be reviewed by the Home Office before going into effect.

FAC stated to be sure to record volunteer hours that the halls have to keep. Adults will be having a Christ-

mas cookie contest.

Publication Committee - see report that is attached to the official minutes.

Home Office - Leonard Mikeska reported our investments and assets are in good shape. They are safe, sound, secure, and matched with our liabilities. John Engelke is a great addition to the board of directors. Leonard presented checks to Mary Steinman, Kay Weeks, and the host lodge. If any members have any questions about anything, please ask.

Director John Engelke reported 62 scholarships were given this past year, and all tournaments are to be held at the Home Office. The SPJST Car Show will be held at Lodge 47, Seaton, and all rules and regulations will be reviewed by Home Office legal counsel.

During March, Selby Holder was the top salesman - $500,000.

Lifetime Achievement awards were presented to Leslie Sims and Gene Sims, both of Lodge 84, Dallas.

Under old business, Jerry Milan made a motion to accept the rules and regulations as presented. CarrieAnn Jones seconded, and the motion passed.

Coming events - if anyone is interested, please contact John Engelke or Selby Holder.

Under new business, CarrieAnn made a motion to make Czech Heritage Day at the State Fair of Texas a district fall meeting fun day. There was no second, and the motion failed.

Milton Peterson reported 54 members attended the meeting; 260 canned goods were collected; and eight people paid.

Youth report - District Youth Counselor Kay Weeks reported 20 youth members and 13 adult attended the youth meeting. LIT camp is June 1 to 14. Camp registration is online. YAD is at Lodge 183, Arlington on June 27.

Lodge 4 Hallettsville members gather for family day

Dear Members, SPJST Lodge 4, Hallettsville held its annual Family Day on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the American Legion Hall at 11 a.m. with registration and a social hour.

At noon, a delicious catered meal of barbecue pork and sausage with trimmings was enjoyed. The meal blessing was given by Dr. Mark Labaj. A large variety of desserts brought by the members was also enjoyed.

Following the meal, President Joe Siptak opened the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Secretary-Treasurer Helen Zabransky introduced special guests Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek and District Six Director Karen Kaspar.

Fifty-year pins were then awarded.

Pins were given to Marlyn Sevcik who accepted for her son Mark Sevcik and

Elrose Muenster who accepted for her son Darren Muenster. Not present were James A. Evans, Gary Wayne Heinzel, and Joyce Mary Pesek.

Also recognized, but not present were our scholarship recipients Rebekah Anne Porter and Katherine Elizabeth Porter, both granddaughters of Albert Kahanek, Jr. Vice President Annie Vahalik then announced door prize winners - Bennie Orsak, Gayenell Chudej, Gaye Galetka, Kaden Grahmann, Jennifer Hessler, Patsy Zabransky, Barbara Vahalik, Sandra Holy, Philip Vahalik, Helen Zabransky, Betty Jean Metzler, Kathleen Grones, Allan Grones, Estelle Barta, Elrose Muenster, Margaret Smotek, and Hilmer Galetka. Lodge 15 Buckholts: wear blue on Sept. 30

The September 14, 2015, meeting of SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts was called to order by President Doug Williams at 5 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sandie Fischer followed by a moment of silence in memory of our departed members. All officers were present except Vice President A.W. Zajicek.

President Williams welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. The treasurer gave her report, and it was approved as read.

Mr. Tom Wiley, Commander of VFW Post 2010, didn’t get to attend the meeting as planned, but he contacted us by phone to address the lodge about the wall on display “Remembering Our Fallen.” About 600 pictures are on display of each member of service who gave up their life for our country. There are two from the Cameron area. The display will be in Cameron until Wednesday, the 16th. After that, it will be transferred to the State Fair in Dallas. We really appreciate all that Tom has done as well as all others who help make this all possible. This includes all the casualties since 2001.

This wall is all sponsored by the Texas Association of Funeral Directors.

In old business, our appreciation project is still in the planning stages.

Mary Helen Rodriques was appointed project officer to work with the Buckholts Youth Organization currently having weekly meetings at Buckholts Youth Center. Approximately 32 young folks attend, and

there is a growing need to expand activities and interest in this group to keep them positively occupied. There are a number who are prospects for membership into the lodge. A number of parents have approached the lodge to consider this important program.

Several of us got to attend the fall fun day at Lodge 47, Seaton Star Hall.

It was very nice. We enjoyed it very much. The food was super. They did a great job.

On Wednesday, September 30, the town of Buckholts and people around the area have committed to display or wear the color blue in support of police officers. Town Hall will display a blue bow and balloons on the town flag pole. The lodge blue color roof will be the center of attention.

The delicious meal was prepared by Sandie Fischer from Post Office Cafe.

Next Meeting—October 12 The next meeting will be on October 12. We hope you can be there.

Lodge 24, Cyclone plans appreciation dinner

Lodge 24, Cyclone met on Monday night, September 14, 2015, at Flag Hall. President Daniel Wilde called the meeting to order at 7:08 p.m. and had the Pledge of Allegiance and a silent prayer for the deceased members.

Secretary Shirley Hoelscher read the minutes of the last meeting, and they were approved. Linda Wilde gave the treasurer’s report, and it was approved. Hall manager’s report by Brenda Maddux included the good report of the dance by All Around Czech. The lodge appreciates the support that was shown for the band.

They are tentatively booked for January 2016. The Red Ravens will be at Flag Hall on February 20, 2016.

Youth Leader Brenda Maddux gave the youth report. Their meeting was at Star Hall in Seaton in conjunction with the District Two Fall Meeting. There

were seven youth and eight adults present. They will decide where they want to go on their November outing at the next meeting at Flag Hall. The adult lodge gave them $150 to spend on their outing as appreciation for their help at the Mother’s Day dinner. There are four seniors in the youth club Cole Campbell, Jonathon Maddux, Madison Malcik, and Tyler Evatt.

Scholarship applications are available from the Home Office. Birthday celebrant is Shelby Bruggman on the 17th.

There is a trip to Six Flags on October 3 with District Two. Brenda Maddux gave the fraternal report. Grandparents Day was September 13.

Events for the calendar are open for booking. We will enter May 8 for our Mother’s Day Barbecue.

We are sad to report the loss of Brad F. Mortimer. Our sincere sympathy.

Old business was the replacement of the air conditioning unit next to the kitchen. New business was to give the youth club the money for its November outing. We will have a member appreciation meal for everyone who

helped at the Mother’s Day barbecue.

The appreciation meal will be at Oscar Store at the next meeting on Monday, October 12 at 7 p.m.

Celebrating birthdays are Alice Hoelscher on the 19th, Cortni Ashcraft on the 26th, Alan Hoelscher on the 19th, Margaret Mikeska on the 25th, Michael Hoelscher on September 23, and Shirley Hoelscher on the 2nd.

Sick list includes Alice Hoelscher and Mark Maddux.

Members were reminded that the Cyclone church picnic is on September 27.

Lodge 6, Cottonwood Hosts Annual Pre-Westfest Potato Peeling Party

Lodge 48, Beyersville extends its gratitude to all who participated in another successful annual fundraiser.

This event requires dedication on the part of the members and friends of members who annually donate their time, talent, and organizational skills.

We want to say thank you to the businesses and everyone else in the community who supported us through donations and ticket purchases and those who generously bid in the live auction and bought chances for the

door prizes and guns, etc. A special note of appreciation to new members of Lodge 48—the Tallas family, who seasoned and grilled the tasty rib-eye steaks that were served for dinner.

These were prepared on the newly completed barbecue pits.

The lodge would also like to recognize Alice Kasper for her dedication to the hall by annually donating numerous unique items for the auction, helping with ideas, and purchasing hall decorations which are then auctioned.

The monies from this fundraiser will be used for necessary maintenance to the hall and the completion of the prep area for the barbecue facility. The kitchen area will be updated and an additional commercial sink will be installed in the youth area hallway. We strive to make improvements and to keep the hall as a user friendly community center with nominal charges for rentals.

Lodge 29, Taylor readies for barbecue cookoff

Lodge 29, Taylor met on Wednesday, September 9, 2015. President Ronnie Rieger opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our departed members and service personnel. Officer roll call showed Wayne Voigt and Adolph Grieger absent. The August minutes were read and approved.

Kaderka reported that in November we will collect for the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive. On September 11 and 12, the 31st Annual Kolache Festival in Caldwell will be held.

On September 13, the District Two Fall Meeting will be at Seaton Star Hall. The Houston Slavic Heritage Festival will be on September 27. October is Czech Heritage Month in Texas so we will prepare a nice Czech meal at the October meeting. Sharon read a thank you for the donation that Lodge 29 made to the Frank Klinkovsky Scholarship Fund. She also read a thank you from Relay for Life for our donation. We need volunteers to work at the barbecue cookoff at the end of the month.

Cristy Girod reported there were 12 youth at the meeting. They had ice cream sundaes afterward. The youth club appreciates any kind of donation for the silent auction they will have at the barbecue cookoff on September 26.

Leonard Kaderka said the property committee was getting the grounds ready for the upcoming cookoff. The new air conditioner has been installed.

They are still getting bids for the new vent hood to go over the grill. Next month will be the final payment on the loan for the roof.

Ronnie thanked everyone for the wonderful appreciation dinner we had for barbecue sponsors. There were 121 people in attendance. Ronnie informed members we will be filling the cooker goodie bags on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m. Anyone wanting to volunteer his/her time is appreciated.

On Friday, September 25 and Satur-

day, September 26, we need volunteers to work during the cookoff. Fajitas on Wheels will sell breakfast tacos on Saturday morning.

Jesse Pospisil signed up new member Scott Kaderka. Connie Voigt made a motion to accept the new member, and Leonard Kaderka seconded. The motion passed.

Lodge 48 Beyersville plans Oct. 31 domino tourney

The monthly meeting was held on Sunday, September 13 at 3:30 p.m. and comprised mainly of discussing the raffle and making suggestions for the next year’s event.

Bobby Wuensche announced that a domino tournament will be held on Saturday, October 31 at the hall. Further information will be published in the Vestnik at a later date.

A motion was made and approved to donate $150 to the Relay for Life and to donate $100 to SPJST Lodge 29, Taylor for its barbecue cookoff.

Happy birthday to Charles Wagner who is celebrating a birthday on September 26.

Lodge 202 Jourdanton: youth club honors grandparents

Lodge 202, Jourdanton met Sunday, September 13, 2015, at Jourdanton Community Center with 29 members and guests present. President James House presided. Special guests were District Seven Youth Counselor Theresa Haag and husband Roy. Kelly House led the Pledge of Allegiance. Silence was observed for deceased member Lee Roy Ermis and in honor of the armed forces.

The youth gave the prayer that was recited before meals at camp, and Sammy Hoggard gave a table prayer.

The youth club prepared a Czech meal in honor of grandparents. Youth

The District Seven Fall Fun Day will be Sunday, November 8 at Lodge 107, Floresville.

The lodge voted to donate $100 to Atascosa County Fair that takes place October 3 and 4. Some of the lodge youth show their animals in the prospect show and enter the craft show each year.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Kathleen Polasek noted that October is Czech Heritage Month in Texas.

The 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive begins October 1.

District Seven Youth Counselor Theresa Haag expressed her goal is to organize new youth clubs and build up the current youth clubs. She has received a list of youth in the district from the Home Office.

Ennis Sewing Circle

Ennis Sewing Circle met on September 10, 2015, in the Sokol Club Room. Thank you to all who came early to help get everything ready. We stretched the tie quilt donated by Bessie Laznovsky. The tying went so fast that we were through in about an hour or maybe a little more. Dolores Vrana offered to finish it off - that is hem it all around. Thanks, Dolores.

President Irene also had feathers, and some made feather pastry brushes - perotky as we used to call them.

Everything went so well and fast that we had our lunch early, had the meeting early then went home early.

We were happy to see Bessie Laznovsky for a little while. The wife of her grandson Johnny Laznovsky - Christi - brought her, but they couldn’t stay as Bessie had to be home for therapy.

As always, we had a delicious lunch. Thank you everyone. Thank you to the set-up and clean-up crew.

After lunch, President Irene called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was said, and a moment of silence was held for Victor Zabojnik.

We had 15 members present. We hope more can come next time. We do have a great time visiting.

Secretary Dolores read the minutes of the last meeting, and Treasurer Dorothy Bobalek gave her report. Both were approved as read. As our bank balance looks pretty good, President Irene suggested that our Circle purchase our lunch again sometimes.

Everyone was for that.

Ginny Svehlak read a funny article “Laughin’ Matters” kids humor, that we all enjoyed.

Sunshine Lady Ann announced September birthdays - Libbie Vrla and Cheryl Prachyl. As neither were present, we didn’t get to sing. Ann had cards to sign for Mildred Trlica and Sadie Kubin for their birthdays next month.

Congratulations to Mary and Bobby Zabojnik for their 55th wedding anniversary. They enjoyed a trip to Louisiana. We hope they were lucky.

Thank you went out to Georgia Holy for donating sugar and creamer packets and stir sticks to the Circle.

with limited colors; read directions first; practice on a block first; wash fabric before starting; following pressing instructions; use thin batting; and don’t worry about making mistakes.

That sounds pretty good to me.

Pat Fowler mentioned how much she was admiring Dorothy Booth, that she was working on her pastry brush all during the meeting. Dolores Vrana took extra feathers home, and she will make a brush for our Christmas drawing - how nice.

I want to thank Dolores for bringing and letting us look at her two albums full of her Hawaiian vacation pictures.

They were beautiful especially the flowers.

Ann Clagett was the 50-50 dollar winner.

President Irene announced the next meeting will be October 8. We will quilt for Georgia Holy, have lunch, meeting, and 50-50 dollar game.

She then thanked all for coming, tie quilting, and pastry brush making.

I made a motion to adjourn the meeting, and it was seconded by Pat Fowler.

The 15th biennial reunion of Andrew Prikryl, Mary Zrubek, and John Valla families will be held at the Brethren Church Fellowship Hall, Granger, Texas, on Saturday, October 24, 2015. Descendants and friends of Hynik (Andrew’s father), Antonin (Hynik’s brother), and Anton Zrubek are invited to join the fun and fellowship.

The hall will open at 10 a.m. Each family is asked to bring a silent auction item and any pictures or histories they want to share. A brisket luncheon with trimmings will be served at 12 noon. KOPRIVA. Funeral service for William R. “Willie” Kopriva, age 84, of Gause, Texas, was at 10 a.m. Friday, September 11 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Deacon Earl Colley officiating. Burial was in Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Marak.

Mr. Kopriva died Wednesday, September 9 at a Temple hospital.

Dear Members, Our youth club went to Incredible Pizza in Conroe for our August social.

We all ate pizza at the buffet. We then played games. We also got to choose three different things to do from go-karts, bowling, mini golf, laser tag, and ice skating. Everyone had a great time. Our District Five Director Larry W. Pflughaupt even raced my dad in to go-karts, and my dad won! They had a blast!

I attended the District Two Fall Meeting. My sister Kayla and I were the flag bearers. After the meeting, I played spin-the-wheel and won some prizes. I also played free throw. I had lots of fun.

Lodge 49, Rowena Youth Club to make a difference

Lodge 49, Rowena Youth Club met on September 6, 2015, at 1 p.m. at the SPJST Hall in Rowena. Sutton Schwertner presided over the meeting. Morgann Wood and Colt Schwertner brought in the flags. All youth recited the pledge to the American flag and Texas flag and the youth club motto.

Tanner Wood called the roll of members, and the minutes from the previous meeting were read.

Grace Schwertner gave the treasurer’s report.

New members were Tracy and Colt Schwertner.

All youth filled out their Vestnik projects and wrote letters to the Vestnik.

Youth Leader Becky Wood talked about fall fun day and the Christmas ornament contest that will be held in Abilene on October 3. There will be a district outing as well on October 3 before fall fun day.

Becky Wood also recognized Tanner and Hunter Wood and Colt Schwertner as they entered the Lego Robotics Drawing Contest and each won and has a chance to go to Washington, D.C., to the Czech Embassy in the middle of September. Due to travel expenses, none of the boys would be able to go, but appreciated the opportunity.

A short program was given by Maynard Schwertner with the Rowena VFW on flag folding and the history of the American flag. All youth teamed up and learned how to fold the American flag.

Youth members then made cards as their Make a Difference Day project.

They will team up with the mother lodge and go visit the nursing homes in Ballinger and deliver these cards and some carnations to the residents.

An ice cream social was held after the meeting celebrating Grandparent’s Day. We had five sets of grandparents attend the social. Everyone had a good time.

Houston Slavic Heritage Festival this Sunday

The 52nd Annual Sts. Cyril and Methodius Houston Slavic Heritage Festival is this Sunday, September 27, 2015, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall and Grounds, located at 607 East Whitney Drive in Houston, Texas 77022.

Admission is $5, and kids under age 12 will be admitted free of charge.

TCHCC to host Heritage Festival and Muziky

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange will be hosting the Heritage Festival and Muziky on Friday, October 16 and Saturday, October 17, 2015. The Fest will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon with the vendors and craft booths open in the village. At 5:30 p.m., chicken and dumplings will be served while it lasts in the Hanslik Banquet Hall. Oktoberfest on the Deck will begin at 6 p.m. with music by the Dujka Brothers Band till 9:30 p.m. The Dujka brothers have been making music together for 27-plus years and have several acknowledgements to their name. They have been very successful in bringing new songs written by themselves and other local Texas writers to the Czech music and polka scene. The evening will conclude at 10 p.m.

A biergarten tent will be in the center of the village with musical entertainment all day long. Music will begin at 11 a.m. till 6 p.m. by the Shiner Hobo Band and the Enzian Buam Band alternating.

Vendors and craft booths will be available for shopping pleasure on the main street of the village, Czech Trail.

A country store will be open for some good buys and you can also pick up some fresh stone ground corn meal for cooking. Plenty of food and cold beverages will be available as well.

In the air conditioned TCHCC main center, the Czech Gift Shop will be open with a brand new stock of authentic Czech items, tee-shirts, caps, crystal, periodicals, music CDs, and new Christmas decorations for 2015.

There will be textile demonstrations of spinning, looming, crochet, and knitting areas to view. In the Museum, a display of authentic Czech kroje and other items can be viewed along with a history of the area in and around Fayette County. The spacious Melnar Library will offer help with genealogy research for those interested in finding out more about their family or Czech history. The Hanslik Hall inside the main building will be the site of the 2015 Heritage Fest Taroky Tournament.

The Texas Czech Music Museum featuring four genres of Czech music, classical, folk, polka, and liturgical, is located in the Kalich House and will be open for tours along with the Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum housed in the Hoelscher House. The day will conclude with the annual performance of Muziky, Muziky at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater on the complex grounds overlooking the scenic Colorado River Valley. This year’s Muziky will feature the Legends of Texas Polka Music Series with the recreation of the famous Joe Patek Orchestra, Part II. It will be an exciting and memorable performance as the sounds of the Patek’s come to life one more time. Many talented and well known

Wallis church sets October 18 festival

The Guardian Angel Catholic Church Bazaar and Harvest Festival will be held Saturday, October 18, 2015. The church is located one block south of Highway 36 on FM 1952 in Wallis, Texas.

Mass is at 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. in the beautiful, historical, painted church.

Activities include music throughout the days, many booths, games, rides, auction, prize drawing, and plenty of cold drinks. A barbecue meal will be served.

The church is open for viewing.

This is an old church with Gothis alters, painted statues, and Czech paintings on the ceiling. It is a very pretty church.

The Victor Peter Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship granted by The Czech Heritage Society of Texas to a graduating Texas high school senior. The money is given to the recipient upon proof of registration in a program of studies at a college or university.

We came to S.P.J.S.T. Assisted Living in March 2012. We moved here from Dumas, Texas, a small town north of Amarillo in the Panhandle.

Our reason for moving here is that our daughter and her husband live here in Taylor, and we needed to be near them. We also have some of our grandchildren and great-grandchildren that are in the area, too.

We feel fortunate to be living in such a beautiful place. The staff is great, and they are very helpful in making everything pleasant. We find the staff and residents friendly Residents Clarence and Ruby Rakes and always willing to help. We enjoy the church services, musical entertainment, and bingo. There is always some kind of entertainment we can choose to attend.
