SPJST State YAD August 1 in Temple
CROWNING THE NEXT KING AND QUEEN. 2014 SPJST State Royalty Duchess Cheyenne Parker, Queen Denae Bronikowski, King Nikolas Faust, and Duke Kade Junek - will crown the 2015 State Royalty this Saturday at Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center Temple. Contestant bios appear on pages 16 and 17. The State YAD schedule is on the back page.

Congratulations to 2015-2016 District Six Royalty. They are, left to right, Queen Sky Garcia and Duchess Angelica Manzano, both of Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje. They were crowned at District Six Youth Achievement Day held July 19 at Taiton Community Center. District Six YAD photos and results appear on pages 12 to 15 of this week’s Vestnik.

SPJST will showcase its youth at State Youth Achievement Day this Saturday, August 1 at the Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center, located at 3303 North Third Street in Temple. All youth participants must register their entries between 9 and 10 a.m. in the lobby of the convention center. Royalty contestants are asked to meet at the stage for a brief rehearsal and further instructions at 9:30 a.m. after they register their entries. Yo u t h will compete in a special category contest at 10 a.m. in the dining room. This contest is left a surprise to all competitors until the day of the event. Past special category contests have included play-dough construction, story-telling, and drawing. If you have not registered for special category, please contact your local lodge youth leader. All entry cards must be turned in to the Home Office no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29.
Opening Ceremonies at 11 a.m. The day’s program begins with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. A lunch, consisting of ham/turkey on a croissant, chips, dessert, and drink, which will be catered by Jason’s Deli, will be available for $5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other food will be available throughout the day.

Lodge 30 Taiton member wins $250 gift card in email contest
SPJST youth who received first place honors at their district competitions across Texas this summer will compete at the state level in various competitions, including group and individual talent, speech, nine craft categories, special category, and youth club poster and scrapbook. Following judging, crafts, special category entries, posters, and scrapbooks will be displayed for the public. Talent competition begins at approximately 11:30 a.m. Young people who have completed kindergarten to high school senior will compete in dance, vocal, instrumentals, and dramatics. The Ceska Beseda dance exhibition will be performed prior to the beginning of the talent competition. Scholarships totaling $11,500 will be presented to SPJST youth members during the day. This year’s food category is cake. Following judging, cake entries will be sold in a silent auction to the highest bidders. All proceeds will go to the SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC) at Cooper Farm and the SPJST Scholarship Fund. A cake and punch reception honoring the youth will be held prior to the State Royalty competition. 2014-2015 State
