The Red Bowl Challenge
any awards were presented at the SPJST Awards Banquet held Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center in Temple. During the afternoon event, many lodges, lodge fraternalists, top-producing sales agents, and youth clubs were recognized in accordance with the terms of the Friendship 2013 membership campaign. Both lodge and individual awards were presented. The day began with the posting of colors by Boy Scouts Troop 101, sponsored by Temple First United Methodist Church and Jonathan Vrla of Lodge 130, Dallas. The Pledge of

Allegiance led by Supreme Lodge Chairman/District One Director Donnie Victorick. Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska then led the invocation, and Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek introduced SPJST officials and welcomed all to the banquet. Temple Mayor Danny Dunn proclaimed the day as “SPJST Awards Day” in the City of Temple. Temple businessman and philanthropist Drayton McLane, Jr. then delivered his keynote address where he encouraged attendees to “swing at the ball” in life and business. He stated that “you will never become what you want to be today by remaining what

Lodge 87 Temple member receives community award
Hope abounded Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the SPJST Awards Banquet. Even if we were running low on hope, it was recharged after listening to our inspirational speaker, Drayton McLane, Jr. It was an informative and joyful day seeing new and old acquaintances. I was so pleased to see Roxy Bertrand with the Red Bowl sitting in the back collecting money for the Czech Heritage Museum debt. She named this challenge and is living up to it. We collected almost $300 on one side of the room, and collections ranged from 75 cents in change to a $20 bill dropped in inconspicuously by our own SecretaryTreasurer Leonard Mikeska. I saw him and was not surprised. Leonard’s life is a reflection of having learned three principles, i.e, God owns everything. He is our source. Every spending decision is a spiritual decision. Your checkbook will reflect your priorities. Also, we can keep the hope alive for this challenge as long as we have members like Barbara Linney-Gonzales, Lodge 88, Houston Youth Leader and District Five Youth Counselor. Barbara prepares food for the Gun Club, one of our monthly rentals at Lodge 88. She told me if I would furnish a cake
