Day of Service at SPJST ENC
SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC) at Cooper Farm expresses its thanks to Harvest Bible Church of Cypress Texas. A group of volunteers organized two service projects at Cooper Farm on Saturday, November 23, 2013, to help beautify the facility. Harvest Bible Church is one of the groups that visits Cooper Farm during the summer. “The group wanted to do something to help us out,” Education and Nature Center Executive Director John Hoelscher said. “They brought right at 101 people to help with two projects we had.” One of the projects was resealing all of the picnic tables and benches, and the other project was helping clear out dead trees along the edge of the ropes course in order to
create better tent camping sites for future use by groups. The rainy day’s temperature did not get over 42 degrees, but that did not seem to deter the group at all. “They actually seemed to like working in the cold and wet weather!” Executive Director Hoelscher added. “This group is definitely a great example of the working relationships that SPJST Education and Nature Center is building,” Hoelscher explained. “This day of service was not something that SPJST ENC had asked for, but instead something that Harvest Bible Church wanted to do to help out and make a positive difference. We thank them so much for it.” —SPJST—
A colorful strip of decorative Czech flowers based on an image found in the Věstník was suggested by Regina Peevey when Lamerle Zajicek was looking for the right flowers to paint around the front doors of SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts Hall. Mrs. Zajicek made patterns of different sizes for the three areas: over the doors, on each side, and between the front doors. Carla Mitchell, Regina Peevey, Alvielene Hartleb, and Lamerle Zajicek put the pattern on the wood then Carla and Lamerle painted beside the doors. Later, Alvielene and Carla painted the area over the doors. Louis Mitchell of Rogers cut the middle star with his laser cutter, and he donated it to replace the old wooden star over the entrance. The outside of this historical Lodge 15 Hall is being repainted as repairs and other areas are restored. —Lamerle Zajicek —SPJST—
