Aloha! In Hawaiian, the word means both “hello” and “goodbye.” Break the word down further and you’ll learn that “alo” means to share; “oha” is joy; and “ha” is life energy. Put them together and you get “the joyful sharing of life energy in the present.” It’s the perfect word to describe the Corpus Christi Getaway Weekend which takes place this weekend at the Emerald Beach Holiday Inn in Corpus Christi. I just got off the phone with Lodge 79, Corpus Christi President Mark Rebecek and I know that he and his lodge members are just as excited as all of the Home Office personnel who will be helping to host this year’s event. Based on our most recent communication with the hotel, we’re expecting our biggest turnout ever! A lot of friendly familiar faces and lot of new ones, too! That’s great! My family looks forward to this event the same way we would a family reunion — a family that loves to laugh, have fun and simply celebrate the joy in living. Most of you who are coming will be staying at the Emerald Beach Holiday Inn. Since you have already made your reservations at the $109 rate, you don’t need to provide any additional proof of membership on arrival. The $109 rate does not include

breakfast; however, please know that the hotel offers a great breakfast buffet for $10.95. Children under 12 can enjoy the buffet for $2.95 — or, if they’re ordering off the menu they can enjoy one free menu item. With regards to fridge and microwave, most of our rooms have neither. Typically, that’s much of an issue; however, if you have specialty items that need chilling, I suggest that you bring a cooler. Upon your arrival, you will receive a printed agenda of the weekend’s activities. In the meantime, if you want to get an idea of what to expect, here’s a tentative outline:
• • • Friday, August 9 • • • 8 a.m. — Golf Tournament at OSO Beach Golf Course
Golfers had to pre-register for this event; however, late registrations are being accepted by tournament coordinator Larry Elzner at (361) 687-7125.
3 to 7 p.m. Welcome to the Emerald Beach Holiday Inn. Check-in time starts at 3 p.m. 7 to 10 p.m. — Aloha Party Casual attire is suggested for the Aloha Party. This is not a formal
