SPJST Presents Join Hands America! to Raise Memorial Awareness
SPJST kicked off “Join Hands America!” May 5 to 7 with a public awareness campaign for the Fort Hood November 5th, 2009 Memorial at Shilo Inn in Killeen, Texas. The event was held in conjunction with National Join Hands Day—Saturday, May 7. The informative come-and-go information session took place from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. all three days. Central Texas area residents, businesses, civic and veterans groups were invited to visit with project organizers and learn more about the memorial. The weekend event also marked the introduction of the Join Hands America! website and toll free call line at (888) 836-9877. The event generated more than $8,500 in support and pledges. Callers and visitors to the
joinhandsamerica.com website are able to learn more about the Fort Hood November 5th, 2009 Memorial and what they can do to support the project. “We literally camped out at the Shilo for three days to kick off this campaign,” says Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek. “Join Hands America is about raising awareness and raising funding for the Fort Hood November 5th, 2009 Memorial.” For more than a year, SPJST has been spearheading efforts to raise money to build the memorial. “Lots of SPJST lodges and districts have given their support. With Join Hands America, we’re reaching out to the media and general public to invite their support.” Lodges
