SPJST Sponsors Texas Polka Music Museum’s Bands of Texas, Volume 3

SPJST is the proud sponsor of Texas Polka Music Museum (TPMM) newest CD: Bands of Texas, Vol. 3. TPMM announced the release recently, and like Volumes 1 and 2, Volume 3 is a compilation of 16 bands with more than 50 minutes of music played by Texas polka bands who have graciously donated the music. Some recordings are from current CDs; others are from LP and 78 rpm records. Volume 3 also has three live recordings. Czech, German, and Polish polkas and waltzes, vocals, and instrumental tunes are included. “We are always in need of more music donations for future volumes,” TPMM President and SPJST Lodge 24, Cyclone member Glen Chervenka

says. “The Bands of Texas collections are a way of preserving music and the bands’ history for the future and to finance the museum.” On both Volumes 2 and 3, a polka disc jockey introduces each song. The disc jockey for Volume 3 is SPJST Lodge 25, Ennis member Johnnie I. Krajca, who has been a polka DJ in the Ennis area since 1964. As a finale song, the CD includes a live recording of the Vrazels’ Polka Band’s “If I Were a Bird Polka.” This was the last song played at the Vrazels’ retirement dance held in January 2009 in Temple and also sponsored by SPJST.
