SPJST lodges across the state sponsor Czech activities throughout the year. Many lodges emphasize Czech events during October’s Czech Heritage Month in Texas. Pictured above, SPJST Lodge 88, Houston Orchestra and Choral Group perform at a past Czech Day celebration at Lodge 88. This year’s 44th Annual Czech Day is Sunday, October 25 at the lodge hall, located at 1435 Beall Street. Activities include a dance, Mr. and Mrs. Czech Day contest, homemade ice cream, Czech pastries, country store, Czech music, crafts, and lunch. See more information on pages 10 and 29.
On Saturday, October 31, cars of all shapes, sizes and colors will be rolling into Miller Park in Temple and put on display for the enjoyment of Czech Feszt attendees. Miller Park is approximately 10 blocks north of the SPJST Home Office. Most of the cars are nostalgic and a few are even unique, but all have had a lot of love and attention from their owners. They are polished and pristine and ready to be judged for the “Best of Show” or the “People’s Choice” trophies. Many have won several trophies at other shows, but there are entrants that this will be their first show. The cars will have the opportunity to be evaluated by a panel of judges in 32 categories with trophies going to the first, second and third place winners. The People’s Choice Award is decided by festival attendees who choose to vote. Ballots will be available at the registration table. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., and judging begins at 12 noon. The winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
from the main stage. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. For more information, call Melanie or Katherine at the SPJST Home Office (254) 773-1575 or David (254) 5340809. The car show is sponsored by SPJST and American Bank of Texas. Registration forms are on page 16 or may be downloaded from www.spjst.org. This is the third year for Czech Feszt, and it promises to be the biggest and best yet. Entertainment begins at 10 a.m. and continues until 10 p.m. Along with some outstanding music, provided by Brave Combo, Fritz Hodde, champion accordionist Mike Middleton, Jerry Haisler and the Melody Five, and others, there will be a return of the fast-moving pig scramble, a petting zoo, rides, Miss Czech Feszt pageant, craft vendors, and a huge variety of food. Early in the morning, some of the best cooks in Texas will bring sam-
