SPJST youth to shine this weekend in Temple
SPJST will showcase its youth at State Youth Achievement Day this Saturday, August 1 at the Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center, located at 3303 North Third Street in Temple. All youth participants must register their entries between 9 and 10 a.m. in the lobby of the convention center. Royalty contestants are asked to meet at the stage for a brief rehearsal and further instructions at 9:30 a.m. Youth will compete in a special category contest at 10 a.m. in the dining room. This contest is left a surprise to all competitors until the day of the event. Past special category contests have included play-dough construction, story-telling, and drawing.
Opening Ceremonies at 11 a.m. The day’s program begins with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. A hamburger lunch, which will include a hamburger, chips, brownie, and drink, will be available for $5 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Other food will be available throughout the day. SPJST youth who receive first place honors at their district competitions across Texas this summer will compete at the state level in various competitions, including group and individual talent, nine craft categories, a special category, and youth club poster and scrapbook. Following judging, all crafts, special category projects, posters and scrapbooks will be displayed for the public. Lodge 15, Buckholts honored with historical marker SPJST Lodge 15, Buckholts celebrated its historical marker dedication on Sunday, July 19. The event included a flag raising, invocation, unveiling, welcome, speakers, award presentations, music, and refreshments. The lodge hall was filled with members and guests. Lodge 15 officers are President Doug Williams, Vice President Derrick Ruzicka, Secretary Dorothy Tomascik, and Treasurer/Financial Secretary Sandie Fischer. Historical committee members for the project were Sandie Fischer, Adeline Kohutek, Dorothy Tomascik, Virginia Williams, Lillie Zajicek, Hilda Burtis, Martha Glaser, Kathleen Jurca, Louise Sakewitz, Charlsie Svetlik, Frank Tomascik, Raymond Posivar, Bennie Vybiral, Frank Klinkovsky, Willie Kohutek, Glenn Fischer (deceased), Joe Zajicek (deceased), and Sidonio “Auntie Red” Svoboda (deceased). 2009-2010 District Four Queen and King
Congratulations to the 2009-2010 District Four Royalty Court. They were crowned on Saturday, July 19 at Youth Achievement Day held in Anson. They are Queen Christine Brooks of Lodge 229, Abilene and King Reed Williams of Lodge 215, South Plains. Not pictured are Duke Cutter Starr and Duchess Jordan Taylor, both of Lodge 229, Abilene.
