She always served svačina - afternoon lunch. Joe L. Sefcik was born on July 25, 1912. He is the youngest of five children. Joe grew up on the heritage family farm owned by his parents Josef F. and Francis Dukatnik Sefcik. Prior to that, the farm was owned by his grandparents, Josef and Rozina Mucha Sefcik, who immigrated to the United States from Leskovec, Czechoslovakia, in the mid-1800s and settled on this same farm. In 1985, Matilda had the privilege to travel to Leskovec, Czechoslovakia, and spend two weeks visiting relatives in Leskovec, Vsetin, and Ratibor, Czech Republic. The family farm was returned to the Sefcik descendants after the fall of communism. Joe remembers going before breakfast, before daybreak, with only the light of the moon to cut corn tops then a few days later to tie the corn tops into bundles and stack them
