April 8: Deadline for By-Law Recommendations

Vestnik Touches Lives in Czech Republic

As you are aware, this is convention year, and the convention is set for June 9 to 11, 2008, in Killeen, Texas. One of the many things— very important things— are the ByLaws of our Society. The By-Laws are the rules and regulations of our Society. As SPJST members, lodges and districts, now is the time to read and review our By-Laws. Discuss them with other members, officers, and directors. If you feel there are changes that need to be made to benefit SPJST, submit your signed recommendation/s to the By-Law Committee. The signed recommendation/s must be postmarked on or before the April 8, 2008, deadline in order to be considered by the By-Law Committee. You may mail or give your signed and dated by-law recommendation to your district by-law committee member, Chairman Ronnie Rieger, or Secretary Beverly J. Teplicek. Contact information is listed on page 2 of each week’s Vestnik. Remember, the deadline for submitting signed recommendations is April 8, 2008. —SPJST—

After a decade, Fayetteville baseball fans had the pleasure of enjoying America’s pastime at the newly designed baseball field located at the Fayetteville SPJST Ballpark. The first game was played Thursday night, March 13, 2008, with the Fayetteville Lions defeating Louise Hornets by a score of 10-0 in six innings. After introductions of the players from both teams, Robert Vitek, a lifetime resident of Fayetteville, threw out the first pitch commemorating this special event while celebrating his birthday. Sara Bertsch captivated the audience as she led the fans in the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Many people came out to watch and support the

Lions in district play. On behalf of SPJST, Lodge 1 Youth Club, we would like to thank everyone who so graciously donated money and volunteered his or her time to make this event possible. Special thanks to the City of Fayetteville for its support of this project. Although the field is playable, the project is not completely debt-free. The SPJST Youth Club is continuing to collect monetary donations for this

Thanks to Brother John A. Kuba of Lodge 133, San Antonio, standing, in back, for submitting this photo. Brother Kuba is pictured with one of his classes in the Gymnasium in Mikulov, Moravia, Czech Republic. He teaches six classes at the “high” school using conversation—and not books—for learning. “And, you can see that some outside reading material as the Vestnik helps,” Brother Kuba says. “The students enjoy reading about other students in the USA and about all of the things that we do in the USA to keep our Czech heritage alive and well.”
