NFCA Honors “Fraternalist-in-Action” for Volunteerism SPJST Lodge 54, West Member Janice Kaluza Visits Capitol Hill The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) recognized Janice Marie Kaluza—a member of SPJST, Lodge 54, West—as a Fraternal MVP (Most Valuable Participant) in Washington, D.C., on April 18, 2007. Kaluza, honored for her outstanding fraternal service, met with members of Congress representing her home state and Congressional district. Fraternal MVPs are “Fraternalists-in-Action” who volunteer their time and energy to strengthen their communities through participation in local lodge activities and other charitable endeavors. “The NFCA salutes Janice Kaluza as a true fraternalist,” said NFCA Chair of the

Board Janice U. Whipple. “As a Fraternal MVP, Ms. Kaluza embodies the heart of fraternalism through her hard work, dedication and generosity. She demonstrates how fraternalism is a force for good in American society.” During her Capitol Hill visit, Kaluza met with Congressman Chet Edwards (D-Texas). Congressman Edwards was very interested in learning what Kaluza and her fraternal benefit society, SPJST, are accomplishing in his state and district, and expressed his support for fraternal contributions to local communities. “Fraternals have a great story to tell, and no one can tell it better than the individuals who devote time to making their communities a better place by helping their neighbors and friends,” said NFCA “Janice Chair Whipple. Kaluza went to Washington and was an excellent goodwill ambassador for the fraternal benefit system. Through her story, she demonstrated to

organizations. She volunteers weekly for the West Ambulance Association in providing emergency care assistance to the sick and elderly in the community and surrounding area. For the past 29 years, she has worked with fund-raisers to benefit the West Ambulance Association and serves as reporter for the West EMS Ladies Auxiliary. Annually, she volunteers her services in the first aid booth at the Westfest. Funds from this event are distributed to various non-profit organizations in the community. Kaluza is very active in her church and serves as a Eucharistic minister, vocation contact person for the parish, and helps to teach and facilitate the adults in her church for a six-month period every Monday evening in the instruction of religious education classes for their parish. She leads one-hour devotion
