S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home Chairman, District Two Director Steps Down Dear Fellow Rest Home Directors, It is with much prayer and thought that has brought me to this point in my life; and after much discussion with my wife, Ann, I have decided to step down from Chairman and also step down from the Board. This is to be considered immediate.

I have enjoyed my time serving the Rest Homes, and I have a great deal of

satisfaction in seeing a dream fulfilled in the Assisted Living addition in Taylor. I feel that we have made a huge leap ahead in attaining our goals for the future. I will continue to pray for wisdom for the Board and continued growth for the Rest Homes.

Lodge 81, Needville to host District Five Spring Meeting Saturday, March 17 District Five’s Spring Meeting will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Lodge 81, Needville. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with lunch at 12 noon. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. To touch on the agenda, we will have election of officers, selection of the 2008 meeting sites, and discussion on the future District Five Membership Rallies.

For our dessert table, donations of cakes, pies, and other pastries will be welcomed. Other donations of items for door prizes and pastries for auctioning will be greatly appreciated.

All proceeds from the auctions will go into the district funds.

We would like to see all the lodges in District Five represented at this spring meeting. Remember, your attendance and participation will count toward your lodge’s fraternal hours. Family and friends, members and non-members are all welcome.

Come and enjoy the day, and the hospitality of Lodge 81, Needville.

The agenda will be provided in future Vestniks with driving instructions to Lodge 81.

Lodge 202, Jourdanton to host District Seven Spring Meeting/ Membership Rally March 4 Lodge 202, Jourdanton will host the District Seven Spring Meeting and Membership Rally on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Jourdanton Community Center, located at 1101 Campbell Avenue in Jourdanton.

Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the meeting convenes at 10:30 a.m.

Lodge 202 will provide complimentary refreshments for the brunch, and free soft drinks throughout the day.

Each lodge is asked to bring its lodge banner for display.

A roast beef lunch will be served at 12 noon for $3 per plate. To order plates, please notify your local lodge secretary or Bettie House (830) 2818246 or email landbhouse@juno.com.

Deadline to order is Sunday, February 25.

Members will have the opportunity

to submit names of potential new members. A $25 gift card drawing will be held for membership referrals.

Previous names submitted are not valid.

Members are asked to bring items for the silent auction to benefit SPJST Library, Archives and Museum (LAM) and SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC).

The district is still collecting aluminum canned drink tabs, hearing aids, and eyeglasses and cases. These may be brought to the spring meeting.

All members are encouraged to attend and to bring a friend. Your support will be appreciated.

VĚSTNÍK held on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at 2 p.m. President Edwin Pechal called the Lodge 47 meeting to order. Flag Bearers Jerry Pechal and Neil Rabroker brought in the flags and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Jerry Urubek.

May he rest in eternal peace. Our sympathies go out to the Urubek family.

Joyce Skrabanek reported that at the present time, she had no one on the sick list. If any of you know of

any members who are sick and in the hospital, please call Joyce Skrabanek or one of the officers so we can send them a card. Joyce stated that Jeff Kirby will be having more extensive surgery on his hand and fingers at Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland. Jeff is serving in the military stationed in Afghanistan. While on a mission, he was injured and was air-lifted to a hospital in Afghanistan in late September. He has had one surgery and three months of therapy but needs more surgery to try to cor-

rect the problem. We wish him a speedy recovery, and hope to see him soon. There may be other members serving in the military that we are not aware of. If so, please let us know.

We wish our troops the best and pray for a safe return. Thank you for doing a good job.

The investigating committee approved the following new members for February: Edward James Mares and Chase Alan Fricke. Welcome and come support our lodge and activities.

Correspondence received were thank you cards from the Bonnie Vacha family and the Joe Pechal family for floral arrangements sent to the deceased members’ funeral. Two letters were received from Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek—one concerning the 2006 Annual Awards Banquet on February 24 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. All 2006 and 2007 lodge officers are encouraged to attend. Any members who are interested, may also attend for a fee of $11 to cover the cost of the meal. Registration begins at 11 a.m.; the meeting will be called to order at 12 noon; the speaker, dinner, and cash drawing for 2006 and 2007 lodge officers and winning sales agents will follow. (You must be present to win.) I always look forward to seeing everyone and making new friends. I know that they have planned a wonderful day for us.

Lodge to Honor Longtime Members The other letter announced the 50and 75-year members for 2007. The 50-year members are Annie Adler, Olin Herman Pick, Hedwig Brockermeyer, Travis L. Fojtasek, Sharon Ann Hejl, Joseph John Kotrla, Edwin James Marek, and Darryl Wayne Divis. The 75-year members are Lillian R. Kosarek and Eleanor L. Rusnak. Congratulations to all who attained this milestone. The lodge will be honoring these members in our April meeting. We hope to see each of these members in April. Our meeting will be on April 1 at 2 p.m.

Secretary to the Board Patsy Koslovsky read the unofficial board minutes of the January 22 meeting.

David Pechal will be the chairperson of the board for 2007; Gary Skrabanek is Vice Chairman; and Patsy Koslovsky, Secretary. These are elected positions that are selected from the elected board of directors at the lodge meeting in November.

Tarok Tournament—March 3 Our sincere apologies to the members around the state who did not receive notification that the tarok tournament on January 20 was canceled due to the inclement weather that weekend.

Amanda Greger called everyone who had registered prior to the date to let them know of the cancellation. At this time, the tournament has been re-scheduled for March 3.

First Vice President Calvin Skrabanek reported that the January 13 workday was rained out for planting trees, but the work on the inside will be as scheduled to do repairs and clean up the kitchen. He thanked all who came out to help—a lot of the inside work was done.

The treasurer’s report was given by David Coufal. Our lodge will be listed in the Temple Daily Telegram’s “Roll of Honor” on February 25 for 104 years of recognition. Lodge 47 is a member of the Temple Chamber of Commerce. Seaton Star Hall will be listed on the chamber’s Web site under new members and under rental facilities.

Youth Club Chili Fund-Raiser Youth Leader Tammy Pechal invited everyone to the youth fund-raiser on February 16 starting at 6 p.m. So far, games, a cake walk, and silent auction are planned. There will be plenty of homemade chili with all the trimmings. Invite your family and friends and come to support the youth club. If you wish to donate an item to the silent auction, you may do so.

Any auction items will be appreciated.

This should be a night full of fun for everyone. The youth made valentines for nursing home residents. They will be distributed to a local nursing home.

The District Two Skating Party is scheduled for February 11 at Skate Haven in Temple. The youth will be participating in the Core Challenge on March 3.

An audit of the books was presented by David Pechal.

Marek for digging the holes for the oak trees. Also, thanks to Calvin Skrabanek, Woodrow Marek, and Edwin Pechal for planting the trees before the rain.

The Bell County Youth Fair and Livestock show was last week. A lot of our youth participated in the fair.

They work hard all year on various projects from livestock, rabbits, poultry, turkeys, to baked items. The competition in all categories is not easy.

Also, a lot of District Two youth members participated in the Bell County Fair. I hope you showed your support and visited the Bell County Fair to see the exhibits. I know that it pleases the boys and girls to see you there supporting them.

Trans-Texas Corridor Update President Pechal stated that the Blackland Coalition will have a covered dish supper on February 24 starting at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite dish to share. An update on the TransTexas Corridor will be presented.

Lodge 48 Beyersville reviews great year Lodge 48, Beyersville would like to thank all of you in our community and with the SPJST that have continued to support our fund-raisers. You may have wondered what do they do with that money. Well, some of the improvement projects that have occurred in 2006 are shrubbery and sprinkler installations, mini blinds for the windows, 12 loads of gravel for the parking lot, addition of storage room, bar area and the beautiful Jak se maš sign, a new microwave, additional tables, electric stove, refrigerator, and one acre of land. All of these were made possible through your generosity.

VĚSTNÍK We want to thank Sister Ruth Ann, FAC, for reviewing the events at our lodge in 2006 as well. In January, we installed officers. In February, we hosted the Czech Chorus as a community social and provided an Italianthemed supper for all who attended.

March brought the State Domino Tournament, a two-day garage sale, and the District Two Spring Meeting.

In April we hosted a community Easter egg hunt. On May 5, we worked with the youth club on Join Hands Day at the Taylor Meat Company to collect donations for the Taylor Food Pantry. In June, we celebrated Flag Day. In July, our youth competed in District Two Youth Achievement Day and attended summer camp. Our annual fund-raiser was in September, and in October, we hosted the annual In Progressive 42 Tournament.

November, we elected officers and, along with the youth club, we staffed the Food Pantry. To round the year out, we held our community Christmas party in December.

To help our lodge become focused on planning more community events, we have selected a new committee to plan events. We want to thank Bonnie W., Juanette Susan, Donna Mahac, Donna Vanecek, John Wuensche, and Karl Wuensche for serving on this committee.

Sister Ruth also presented Every Day Hero pins to our volunteers.

Lodge 66, Waco reports on January meeting The meeting was called to order

by President John Engelke on January 21, 2007, at Linden Hall in Elm Mott, at 2:30 p.m. All officers were present with the exception of Guide Sister Dorothy Gerlich due to a death in her family. There were 21 members present at today’s meeting.

We were very glad to have at our meeting longtime member Tony Pavelka.

The youth presented the flag and led the Pledge of Allegiance and Motto.

Members stood for a moment of silent prayer for deceased members John J. Wittu and Jerry Anderson.

Secretary Sister Dana McAdams read the minutes of the November 19, 2006, meeting, and they were approved as read.

Sister Dana McAdams read correspondence from Supreme Lodge President Brian Vanicek regarding the Annual SPJST Awards Banquet which is being held on February 24 in Killeen. The Home Office sent registration forms for members who plan to attend. Also, a list was sent of 50year members who will be given pins. They are Irene Emma Janke, William R. Adamcik, Chan Reznicek Turner, Emmett Wayne Attaway, and James Vernon Martin. Sister Dana also read correspondence from District Three Secretary Kay Weeks concerning Johnnie Krizan’s LAM challenge. She also read correspondence from Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Lanita Anglin needing updates of lodge officers for records at the Home Office for 2007 and also correspondence from Fraternal Services Specialist Tammy Martinez needing 2006 photos of Lodge 66 officers.

President Engelke read an invitation notice from the University of North Texas College of Music for the

Wall of Honor establishment Czech Music and Culture on January 27 at 12 noon. President John also read correspondence from Supreme Lodge President Vanicek announcing the January 27 chartering of Lodge 267, DFW. Also, President Vanicek sent a letter on the exemption of property taxes of lodges. President Engelke read a letter from Supreme Lodge Vice President Gene McBride setting a goal of insurance applications for Lodge 66 at 60.

Sister Janie Dujka of the Entertainment Committee reported that today they were having sausage, fried chicken, cobbler, and cake. For the February meeting, a roast beef dinner will be served. It was decided that the June meeting for members will be held at Heitmiller’s Restaurant on June 12 at 6 p.m.

Lodge 80, Holland to honor longtime members The SPJST Lodge 80, Holland meeting was called to order on February 3, 2007, at 4 p.m. by President Doni Powell. A thank you note was read from the Holland Girl Scouts for Lodge 80 contributions. They now have 19 members.

The SPJST Awards Banquet will be February 24 at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. Deadline for registration is February 16.

FAC Paula Weir reported there will be the State Straight Domino Tournament in Cyclone on March 3.

The March 3 meeting will be at 3:30 p.m. The Board of Directors will meet at 5 p.m. Lodge 80 will present two 50-year pins and one age 96-year member.

The Chamber of Commerce banquet will be at this hall on March 24 at 6 p.m.

Membership voted to give the National Turkey Federation a $50 ad.

Lodge 107 Floresville Member Receives Honor

Congratulations to Connie Jo Purchis of Lodge 107, Floresville who was recently honored with the highest Apheresis Donation (48 gallons) for Fort Sam Houston. Connie Jo received this honor on January 19.

Lodge 80 received a check for $4,204.50 from the SPJST Home Office for insurance sales and renewals.

May 5 will be Join Hands Day. Lodge 80 will sell hamburgers at noon along with a bake sale.

Proceeds will be given to the Czech National Cemetery in Holland, Texas. Monk Ivicic has established a fund to be used to erect a history and name marker. Monk will be asked to speak at our Lodge 80 April meeting.

Lodge 80 youth will meet March 17 at 5:30 p.m. The membership agreed to allow the Girl Scouts to sell cookies at February 15 bingo. Risa Pajestka moved, motion seconded, and passed to have a Mardi Gras theme on the February 15 bingo night.

meal for the adult lodge and youth club members and gifts were exchanged by everyone. The party

Lodge 84, Dallas plans fund-raiser Dear Members, With rising prices facing our lodge, our lodge treasurer Jim Liska suggested that we have a fund-raiser to help meet out budget for 2007. His committee for this project will be asking for help with ideas as well as donations from our members and friends of Lodge 84, Dallas.

Lodge 142 Houston reports on January meeting Lodge 155, Austin The last meeting of Lodge 142, meets March 11 Houston was held Sunday, January 14, 2007, at 2 p.m. and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call of officers. The members stood for a moment of silence in remembrance of our deceased member Rosie Tumis. All officers’ reports were given and accepted.

Door prize drawings were held and prizes awarded.

January birthdays included Lawrence Schilhab, Jack Manchack, Gunnar Owens, and Jim Owens.

The capsule drawing for $100 was not claimed due to the absence of Vincent Voytek, Gregory Mahac, and Harlan James Jochen. A motion was made to divide the $100 into ten $10

social. So bring yourselves and a guest.

Remember to “spring forward” and set your clocks to daylight savings time the night before to avoid arriving an hour early.

Lodge 24, Cyclone hosts SPJST State Straight Domino Tournament March 3 The 2007 SPJST State Straight Domino Tournament is set for Saturday, March 3 at Lodge 24, Cyclone’s Flag Hall.

In Memory of Rudolph G. Kaspar

Rudolph G. Kaspar, 78, of Taylor, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at his home with his family at his side.

Rudy was born March 15, 1928, to John B. and Frances (Pokorny) Kaspar in the P o l a n k a Community near Taylor. He joined the Army in 1950 and served in Japan in the occupation forces, and in Korea. He was honorably dis- Rudolph Kaspar charged in 1952.

Shortly after he returned from Korea, he was introduced to Lillian Matula at The Diamond Inn. Rudy and Lillian married on July 20, 1954, and were blessed with three children. Rudy worked as a butcher at the Taylor Meat Company, as a foreman at Pokorny Construction Company, and for the City of Taylor in the Water Department. In his “retirement,” he continued to work for the city at the Taylor City Cemetery.

Rudy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was a member of SPJST Lodge 29, Taylor, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and KJT. In his free time, Rudy enjoyed fishing, barbecuing in the backyard, tending to his tomato plants, and playing taroks and dominoes with friends and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother William (Bill) Kaspar and wife Edith; sister Rose Hobbs and husband Truett, infant sister Bertha; and brother-in-law Laddie Matula and wife Helen.

Rudy is survived by loving wife Lillian Kaspar of Taylor; sons James and wife June Kaspar and Tom and wife Tammi Kaspar, all of Taylor; daughter Donna and husband Jim Piburn of Washington, D.C.; brotherin-law Tony Matula and wife Linda of New Braunfels; sister-in-law Mary Ann Stauffer and husband Raymond of Taylor; and beloved grandchildren Luke, John David, and Savannah Kaspar, and Stacey Dubec.

Pallbearers were his grandsons Luke and John David Kaspar, and nephews Bill Kaspar, Johnny Hobbs, Larry Matula, Eric Matula, Buddy Gaswint, and Randy Gaas.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Pokorny, Jr., Franklin Schlesinger,

Paul Schlesinger, Gilbert Baran, Allen Tschoerner, Jimmie Coufal, Fred Zucknick, Edmund Lefner, Bobby Wuensche, and Alex Gola.

In Memory of Helen Bryson Funeral services for Helen Barta Bryson, 84, of Richmond were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 31, 2007, in the Chapel of DavisGreenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The Reverend Larry Butcher was officiate at the service.

Visitation was from 5 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, January 30 in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Helen was born August 13, 1922, in Rosenberg to Joe Barta and Julia (Duyka) Barta. She passed away January 27 in Columbus.

Helen and her husband, Albert, lived and farmed in Fairchild until 1981 when they moved to Rosenberg. Helen retired after 10 years with Texas Instruments. She was a member of Rosenberg Brethren Church and served as secretary for SPJST Lodge 81, Needville.

Helen was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.

She is preceded in death by husband, Albert R. Bryson; parents, Joe and Julie Barta; brother, Victor Barta; and niece, Beverly Jurchak.

Helen is survived by children, Kenneth Bryson and wife Pat of Hilltop Lakes, Wanda Warren and husband Wayne of Rosenberg, and Harvey Bryson and wife Gay of Rosenberg; grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, and Kelly Bryson; great-grandchild Haley Herring; brother I. Herman Barta and wife Gladys of Rosenberg; sister Georgie Jurchak and husband Sydney of Houston; and other relatives and many friends.

Resolution Committee Winnifred Susan Willie Mae Kuykendall —SPJST—

Resolution of Sympathy We the undersigned Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge 88, Houston, Texas, and on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed member, MARY ANN STANEK, born in Shiner, Texas, on December 7, 1926, and a longtime West University resident, who passed away Saturday, January 13, 2007, at her home, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by parents, Mike and Mary Siegel; and brothers Frank, John, Buddy, Stanley, Tony, and Emil Siegel.

Mary’s greatest joy was being surrounded by her family and friends. It was Mary’s sweet smile that greeted customers of JMH Grocery in West University for over 40 years until her retirement in 1999.

She was devoted to her faith and was a eucharistic minister and a member of the Catholic Daughters at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church where she was a member for her entire life in Houston.

She was a longtime member of SPJST Lodge 88, Houston where she enjoyed polka dancing with her beloved polka friends.

She is survived by beloved husband Victor L. Stanek of 58 years; precious sister Ann Wotipka; loving children Dennis Stanek and wife Kim; Shirley Webb and husband Jeff, and Johnny Stanek; and grandchildren Jordyn and Sydney Stanek, and Patrick and Taylor Webb, with whom she held the title of MeMaw. The family received visitors from

6 to 7 p.m. on Monday evening, January 15 followed by a 7 p.m. rosary at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church. Funeral mass was celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 16 with reception following from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A graveside service was held at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery after the reception.

Jerry Urubek, 82, of Temple died Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in a Temple hospital.

Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, February 2 at Ocker Brethren Church Cemetery with United States Air Force honors.

He was born in Ratibor to John and Annie Sodek Urubek. He attended school in New Colony and Rogers.

He married Dorothy Nell Zabcik Kovar on June 25, 1986. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II and the Korean War. He worked as a tech sergeant, senior aircraft maintenance technician, and an airplane maintenance instructor. He also worked for the VA Regional Office in the mail room and was a retail clerk at liquor stores owned by Doody Ward of Rogers.

He was a member of SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton; American Lodge Post No. 133; the Air Force Association, and Ocker Brethren Church.

Survivors are his wife of Temple; step-daughters Karen Bethke of Rogers and Gayle Farrow of Temple; brother Frank Urubek of Temple; four step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Ocker Brethren Church.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m.

Youth Leaders Retreat set for March 24 and 25 in West

Dear Youth Leaders, I’m excited. The Youth Leaders Retreat will be Saturday and Sunday, March 24 and 25 at the Czech Inn in West, Texas. This is a new hotel, and the accommodations are excellent.

West is located approximately 20 miles north of Waco. The workshop starts at 1 p.m. That should allow everyone plenty of time to drive in on Saturday. We’ll finish up at noon on Sunday, allowing plenty of time for you to make it home that afternoon.

All youth leaders and their assistants are encouraged to attend. If you are planning to bring a spouse, please let me know and I will work with you on making special arrangements.

We’re going to cover a lot of ground during the two-day program, including some of the ideas which came out of the brainstorming session that we had at last year’s workshop held at Temple College. In addition to covering all of the regular topics such as rule book changes, YAD and camp, we’ll also be addressing fund-raising and ways to get more kids — and adults — involved in your program.

You can also plan on experiencing a great night of fraternalism with dinner — and entertainment — at the Wild West Steakhouse in West. If you have any questions about the youth leader retreat please feel free to contact me.

Lodge 9, Snook beseda dancers participate in historical marker dedication On January 21, 2007, the Snook Brethren Church celebrated its 120th anniversary and dedicated a State of Texas Historical Marker. Several members of our Beseda dance circles participated in the Historical Marker Dedication Service by leading the congregation in pledges to the Christian, American, and Texas flags then leading them in singing “Texas Our Texas”.

The dedication service included Czech singing and a speech by Mr. Bill Giesenschlag about the “seeds of Christian faith” that our Czech ancestors planted when they came to Texas.

Over the years, these seeds have been watered and grown into great trees.

He stressed that it is our job to continue watering the trees and growing the faith that our ancestors brought to Texas.

Lodge 30, Taiton Youth Club reports on February meeting The February 4, 2007, meeting of SPJST Lodge 30, Taiton Youth Club was held at the Taiton Community Center.

The meeting was called to order by President Jarrett Dluhos at 2:20 p.m.

Brandon Drapela led the Pledge of Allegiance, SPJST motto, and prayer.

The roll of officers and members was called by Secretary Danielle Zalman.

The January meeting minutes were read by Secretary Danielle. The treasurer’s report was given by Reporter

SPJST Adult Lodge 30 will have its Member Appreciation Banquet on March 4. Members were reminded that setup will be at 9:30 a.m., the youth club meeting will be at 10 a.m., and the meal will be at 12 noon.

Youth Leader’s Report Youth Leader Lisa Bubela reported that the SPJST Adult Lodge 30, Taiton will be purchasing a sound system.

Dear Members, Lodge 47, Seaton Youth Club invites everyone to a chili supper on Friday, February 16, 2007, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Seaton Star Hall.

Supper will include chili, corn bread or crackers, with toppings and iced tea. Free-will donations will be accepted.

A cake walk, silent auction, and other activities will be held. All proceeds will go to the youth club.

He showed us a great slide show about the SPJST Core Challenge.

We are planning on having a family dance fund-raiser. It will be on February 17. Our lodge is raising money for a trip to Sea World in the summer.

Výroční schůze CEFT a otevření katedry české hudby a kultury uskutečněno na Severotexaské universitě v Dentonu, TX.

Výroční schůze České vzdělávací nadace státu Texasu byla zahájena dne 27. ledna 2007 v přilehlé místnosti v Murchinsonově hudební síni v areálu Severotexaské university v Dentonu, Tx. za poměrně hojné účasti členstva a příznivého počasí.

Schůzi zahájil Marvin Marek, vysloužilý president nadace za nepřítomného presidenta Woody Smitha, přivítal členstvo, vzácného hosta, velvyslance České republiky ve Spojených státech amerických Petra Koláře. Složili jsme přísahu vlajce.

Marvin Marek poděkoval Severotexaské universitě za vydatnou spolupráci při zahájení práce na katedře české hudby a kultury, zejména Elidě Tamezové, která zorganisovala celou slavnost.

Předseda Sboru ředitelů Clinton Machann přednesl zprávu o celoroční činnosti a oznámil, že dnes zahájí činnost katedra české hudby a kultury na universitě. Připomenul, že naše nadace v dubnu 1991 zahájila činnost katedry českého jazyka, literatury a kultury na Texaské universitě v Austinu, Tx. a po několika letech v říjnu roku 1999 jsme oslavovali otevření CEFT Williama J. Hlavinky stipendium anglistiky na Texaské A and M universitě v College Station, Tx. Neméně důležité je datum 28. června 2000, kdy naše nadace obdržela vyznamenání Jana Masaryka Ministerstva zahraničí České republiky Gratias Agit. A nyní se blíží otevření dalšího stipendia CEFT Franka J. a Herminy Hurta Kostohryzových česke hudby a kultury na Severotexaské universitě v Dentonu.

Na konci své zprávy shrnul znovu, že nadace uspěla v ustanovení katedry českého jazyka, literatury a kultury na Texaské universitě v Austinu, Tx., katedry anglistiky pro moravské studenty na Texaské A and M universitě a nyní katedry české hudby a kultury na Severotexaské universitě v Dentonu, Tx, která je jednou z nejlepších hudebních universit v Americe.

Poděkoval také velvyslanci Kolářovi za jeho přítomnost při slavnostním ustavení katedry české hudby a kultury a za jeho vše stranný zájem o krajanskou práci v Texasu. S tím souvisí také práce našeho generálního konsula Raye Snokhouse z Westu v Texasu.

Pak generální konsul Ray Snokhous uvedl k mikrofonu velvy slance Petra Koláře.

Pan velvyslanec pochválil obyvatele Texasu, že jsou pilný a budovatelský národ, farmy jsou obdělány pečlivými hospodáři.

Není divu, že i ostatní národnosti mají rády naše krajany a oblibují se naše jídlo a tradice. Poděkoval za práci krajanů ve prospěch kultury České republiky v Texasu a rád se zase na nás přijede podívat.

Marvin Marek poděkoval velvyslanci za humorný projev a zdůraznil, že pan velvyslanec a ostatní úředníci nadace jsou poznáni na hovězí pečeni na rožni někde v severním Texasu, protože střední a jižní Texas je mu poměrně znám.

Pak představil ředitele a ůředníky nadace.

Tajemník Paul Hlavinka vysvětlil zápis z minulé výroční schůze a zápis byl přijat tak, jak byl vysvětlen.

Přivítal mládež přítomnou na schůzi a vyslovil naději, že budou pokračovat v práci nadace i nadále.

Pokladník Tony Pustějovský upozornil na změnu adresy a doporučil, aby lidé používali jen jeho poštovní schránku, správná adresa tedy zní:

Texas Historical Commission seeking internship candidates The Texas Historical Commission (THC) announces a new internship opportunity, the Preservation Fellows Program, created to build interest in and awareness of historic preservation among college-aged young adults, specifically those who are of diverse cultural backgrounds.

The program targets talented undergraduate and graduate students to encourage their interest in pursuing fields of study in history, preservation, architecture, archeology, landscape architecture, downtown revitalization and heritage tourism.

They will also learn about the impact historic preservation programs have on a community’s economic development. By working with THC staff for eight weeks during the summer, students will be exposed to various and exciting vocational opportunities in the field of historic preservation, with the goal of encouraging more students from under represented ethnic groups to pursue careers in historic preservation upon graduation.

Two students will be selected to intern during the summer of 2007.

The award winners will be announced on March 26, and will be honored at the THC’s Annual Historic Preservation Conference in Lakeway April 12-14.
