SPJST honors lodges, members, youth at annual awards banquet Hundreds of awards were presented at the SPJST Awards Banquet held Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center. The banquet began with introductions and welcomes by SPJST officials. Keynote speaker Clyde “The Cajun” Harris then addressed the crowd of approximately 350. Harris challenged the fraternalists to make a difference in 2006. “Maybe you didn’t finish as high as you hoped to in 2005,” he stated. “It’s a new year, and everyone is starting out equal . . . get in line this year, and you can be a winner at next year’s banquet.” He also encouraged the winners to take pride in their award trophies and plaques. “It’s always a great joy to tell people what the award is for . . . and that’s a great way to talk SPJST.” Following the keynote, Supreme Lodge Vice President Gene McBride presented a summary of SPJST’s success in 2005. He then introduced the 2006 SPJST membership campaign: Action ’06. Thirty-two individuals were recognized for the special honor of being nominated Fraternalists of the Year from their respective lodges. The SPJST
