In the summer of 1973, I attended an SPJST picnic and dance. A cousin came over to my table and said, "You must come and meet this crazy guy who just moved here from San Antonio". Of course, I had to "czech" him out, and we had our first dance and first kiss in the SPJST hall. One and a half years later, I was married to Douglas Keith Williams. (Continued on page 4.)

WTIEREAS, beginning in the late 1840s Czech settlers came in growing numbers to the Lone Star State, gravitating to the rich soil of the black lands and upper coastal plains belts from Denton to Brownsville, these industrious yioneers created close-knit communities that kept intact their unique old-world customs while adayting to the challenges of a new land and WICEREA.S, Czechs are renowned for their exemplary work ethics and Cove of democracy and have established standac,i.s excellence as both ivivate andyribric citizens to whom alt can" aspire; and because forgenerations, Texans of Czech extraction have made many notable contributions, both cultural and historic, to the betterment of our state; and their many accomplishments in this regard are truly worthy of syeciaC iegisCative recognition. TWERETORE, BE IT' RESOLVED, that the Supreme Lode Officers and Directors of the ST3S'f, do hereby urge each and every member to recognize the contributions made to this Society and to Texas by the Czech settlers and their descendants. 'This resolution is hereby submitted on September 28, 2004.

SPJST 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive begins The SPJST kicked off its annual 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive on October 1. This year's goal is to collect $17,000. Donations are tax-deductible and 100 percent of the amount contributed is applied toward scholarships. Acknowledgement of individual donations will be published in the Vestnik. To contribute to the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive, please send your check to:
