INS 11R M This year's 75-year members joined the SPJST in 1929. That was the year that signaled the start of the Great Depression, marked by the New York Stock Exchange Crash of October 29. It was also the year the first Academy Awards were presented with best picture honors going to "Wings." On a related note, U.S. Admiral Richard Byrd became the first person to fly over the South Pole in 1929. The comedy duo of Amos and Andy also made their debut in 1929. Well-known birthdays in 1929 belong to Martin Luther King, Jr. and television personality Dick Clark. -SPJST-
