Lodge 84, Dallas member takes top prize in Czech Heritage Month drawing Thanks to the many SPJST members who participated in this year's Czech Heritage Month prize drawing held during the month of October. Congratulations to Sister Helen Gajdica of Lodge 84, Dallas. Helen is our Grand Prize winner. As such, Helen will be receiving the large collection of Czech books and videotapes. Ten other lucky winners will also be receving copies of Kt-amid Amerika, A Study of the Texas Czechs, 1851 - 1939 and Cherished Czech Recipes. Watch the Vestnik, too, for regular features and postings related to the preservation and celebration of Czech hertiage and culture. Finally, those who have Internet access are encouraged to explore the ever-expanding assoitment of web sites devoted to topics related to the Czech lands, people and language. —SPJST-
The SPJST's annual 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive commenced October 1 and is now in full swing. This year's goal is to collect $16,000. Through the end of October, there were 170 donations made for a grand total of $3,928.28. SPJST Memorial Donations to date are $4,735.50. The first listing of donors appears below. Donations are tax deductible and 100 percent of the amount contributed is applied toward scholarships. Acknowledgement of individual donations will be published in the Vestnik. SPJST general scholarships were established in 1982 for SPJST members. General scholarships are funded by the SPJST and voluntary contributions by members and friends of the Society. Accordingly, the more funds available, the more scholarships awarded. Thank you for your generOUS support.
