A Special Kinship I have to give my dad a lot of credit.- Through his actions and through his words, he taught my brothers and me the importance of helping each other in time of need. Too, I remember him saying that's one thing you didn't keep track of in a family how often you help one another. That in a family, it's all for one and one for all.

As members of the SPJST, we too share a common bond - a kinship borne and nurtured over generations: A commitment to help each other in time of need and an invitation to share in the good times with our fraternal brothers and sisters.

Membership in the SPJST begins with the purchase of an insurance certificate. It matures with active participation in the local lodge. In that regard, the lodge can be likened to an extended family. That's the ideal and it's what our devoted adult lodge leaders and youth club leaders strive to achieve.

Just as the attitudes and behaviors taught at home by parents become those things passed to their children, so it goes in the lodge. The lodge . tends to reflect the personality of its leaders. Even in hours of discouragement, good leaders can pick up the pieces, regroup the members and move forward with confidence and resolve. And, in times of triumph, they give credit where credit is due;

moreover, they rejoice in celebrating the good fortune of their fellow members. Fraternalism is about treating each other with dignity, respect and fairness. When we do that, our opportunities for both personal and organizational growth expand greatly.

All that sounds so serious, doesn't it? Well, it is. But you know what?

Around the State District Six readying for fifth annual barbecue cookoff and games SPJST District Six hosts its Fifth Annual Barbecue Cookoff on Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13, 2003. Organizers invite all interested cookers and funseekers to mark these days on their calendar and join them at SPJST Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje.

Friday and Saturday. The lodge is easily accessible from Highway 59.

Cookoff activities get underway on Friday evening with DJ music from 8

p.m. until 12 a.m.

Come out on Saturday and see the spectacular pits and taste the prizewinning barbecue! There will also be food and drink concessions, arts and crafts booths, a prize drawing and various games, including the wheel of fortune. Family activities begin at 10 a.m.

Secretary-Treasurer announces cookbook cover design contest Secretary-Treasurer Lanita Anglin invites SPJST members, ages six and above, to enter the Cookbook Cover Design Contest. The winning design will be featured on the new cookbook, "SPJST Texas Recipes," due out at the beginning of 2004.

Here are the guidelines/rules: • Open to all SPJST members, ages six and above.

• Design a cover for the new cookbook.

• One entry/design per member.

Rules • Submit entry on a 5 1/2 inch by 8 1/2 inch sheet of plain, white paper.

This is equivalent to a regular sheet of typing paper folded in half.

• Entries must be freehand originals created by the member.

• No computer-generated designs accepted.

• Use ink, magic markers, or crayons.

• Entries should be in color.

• Design should reflect the name of the cookbook, "SPJST Texas Recipes."

• Entries become the property of SPJST and will not be returned.

• Include name, area code and phone number, and lodge number on back of entry.

Note: The binding for the new cookbook will be blue.

SPJST records 154 referrals through June Outreach 2003 program To help achieve the objectives of the Outreach 2003 program, several incentives are being offered.

Members who make referrals that result in written applications will be recognized as follows: • Recruit One Member - Name in Vestnik.

Our Secretary, Sister Barbara Jean Hykel, read the minutes from our last meeting. They were approved as read.

There was no correspondence. Sister Peggy Dobecka, Treasurer, gave her report. It was approved as given.

Financial Secretary and Board of Trustees Chairman, Brother George Straten gave his reports. He reported two new adult members for the month of June. Thanks to our lodge sales representatives, Sister Lydia Dobecka and Brother Johnnie Krizan. Brother George reported hall bookings with our socials being on August 1 and August 15. He also reported that our next trustees meeting would be on Friday, August 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator, Sister Barbara Jean Hykel, gave her report. She mentioned that anyone interested could enter a cover design for the new SPJST cookbook cover design contest. She also mentioned that three new lodges formed with youth clubs, namely Lodge 229 Abilene; Lodge 221, Harker Heights; and Lodge 217, Alice.

Sister Barbara also mentioned our upcoming picnic on July 20 with workers needed for the Friday night social and again on Saturday morning, July 19 starting at 8 a.m. She also mentioned that on Sunday morning, July 20—the day of the picnic—workers would be needed starting at 5 a.m.

Lodge 1, Fayetteville to meet at Keilers Restaurant July 25 SPJST Lodge 1, Fayetteville will have a quarterly meeting/luncheon at Keilers Restaurant in Fayetteville on Friday, July 25, 2003 at 11:30 a.m.

Minnie Mae Spacek Kubena will be 96 years of age on July 20 and a special presentation/ceremony is planned for the honoree at this meeting. Mrs. Kubena has been a member of SPJST since October 20, 1938 accumulating 65 years at Lodge 1 at Fayetteville SPJST Lodge 1 members planning to attend this meeting need to call Louis Polansky (979) 378-2378 by Tuesday, July 22, 2003.

6/VESTNIK—Wednesday, July 16, 2003 would be baking their kolaches on August 16 at Cottonwood Hall.

Sister Peggy reported a great turnout for the District Three Youth Achievement Day (YAD) last month in Ennis, Texas, with lots of winners.

She read all the winners and their categories, which I failed to obtain. She reported that she has 18 active members in the youth club and 17 of those participated in YAD and won.

Congratulations to all of these young people! They represent their mother lodge very well and we, as Lodge 6, Cottonwood, are very proud of them.

Keep up the good work! She also mentioned that State YAD would be on August 9 in Temple, Texas, and that all our first place youth would be participating. She encouraged everyone to attend State YAD and see what all they accomplish.

47, Seaton reports on July meeting Lodge

Dear Brothers and Sisters, The regular Lodge 47, Seaton meeting was opened by President Edwin Pechal. The Flag Bearers Neil Rabroker and Josef Morris brought in the flags and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call by Adeline Kohutek revealed all officers; all trustees except Dan Wiley; and most sales representatives present.

Those on the sick list included Nelda Marek who had surgery and Johnie L. Vanicek who had a heart attack recently. Hope you are both feeling much better.

The minutes of the June 4 meeting were read and approved as read.

New members accepted into Lodge 47 membership were Katie Ann Klinkovsky - two certificates; Frank E. Klinkovsky, III; Brandon John Hoelscher; Brooke Hoelscher; Joyce Ondrasek; and Kyle and Mark Hoelscher transferred from Lodge 24 to Lodge 47. A warm welcome to each of you and come to the youth club or mother lodge meetings. We try to make everyone welcome.

Correspondence included a letter from Michael Morris wanting a horseshoe tournament on Saturday, July 5 at Star Hall; a note of thanks for the ice cream social and gift from Lee Ann Psencik; and a letter from Dan and Helen Wiley which stated that they had moved to Louisiana; therefore, Dan wishes to resign as a trustee for. the rest of this year. We accepted the resignation. Brother Calvin Skrabanek will be the trustee to replace Dan Wiley.

Board minutes were read by Edwin Vasicek, Board Secretary. The historical marker is to be presented when ready.

We voted to again host the Monday night convention for the delegates for the year 2004 next year. Isn't the time flying?

Officers' Reports Edwin Pechal thanked everyone who helped with the 100th year celebration and with the Vrazels 50th celebration with the tables and chairs.

Beth Rabroker reported that Lodge 6 will hold a picnic on Sunday, July 20 at its lodge hall.

The District Two Youth Achievement Day is set for Sunday, July 27, 2003 at Lodge 80, Holland.

66, Waco reports on June meeting Lodge

The meeting was called to order by President George Pauling on June 15, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Linden Hall, Elm Mott. All officers were present with the exception of Financial Secretary Darlene Engelke and Guide Emma Ceska. There were 25 members present today.

The youth presented the flag and led the Pledge of Allegiance and Motto.

Secretary Dana McAdams read the minutes of the May 18 meeting. They were approved as read.

Dana McAdams read correspondence from Supreme Lodge Secretary Lanita Anglin wanting recipes for the new SPJST cookbook which will be published later in the year. Recipe forms are available and recipes must be in to the SPJST Home Office by July 1, 2003. Dana also read correspondence about the 2003 Outreach Incentive Report with Lodge 66 having sold 25 certificates. President Pauling had Dana read correspondence from Lillie O'Shields from Lodge 3.9 in Bryan concerning information on how to go about getting a scholarship program started.

President Pauling gave Mrs. O'Shields all the information she needed by telephone.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator (FAC) Mary Alice Langlotz welcomed State FAC Gladys Yates to our meeting and read a letter from Gladys listing her June functions. A reminder was made about the District Three Youth Achievement Day (YAD) being held in Ennis at Lodge 25 on June 22, 2003; the Golf Tournament to be held on October 11, 2003 with proceeds going to SPJST Education and Nature Center (ENC) and SPJST Library, Archives and Museum (LAM); and

Wednesday, July 16, 2003—VESTNIK/7 July 18 to 21 is District Three Camp time at Val Verde. Mary Alice thanked members for giving her their FAC hour reports. She also read an excerpt from the Vestnik about the flag and read a verse about Father's Day. President Pauling announced that Lodge 66 hosted an FAC meeting on June 10, 2003.

Chairman of the Entertainment Committee Michael Galler reported that the committee met today.

Members were asked to bring sandwiches. The committee furnished desserts and chips. For the July 27 meeting, members are asked to bring sandwiches. The committee will furnish desserts, chips and pickles. For the August 17 meeting, the menu will be listed later.

Youth Leader Debbie Galler gave the youth report. There were five youth, six adults, and two visitors, Christopher Johnson and Nick Culliton, present at today's meeting.

She reminded the youth of the District Three YAD in Ennis on June 22. The youth will meet on July 27. The youth are having a graduation party today for Jodie McAdams and Amanda Neslony.

The youth will go to camp on July 18 through July 21 at Camp Val Verde.

The new youth club handbooks are here. The youth will go to Summer Fun USA on July 26 at Belton. The youth will take ice cream to the Moody Nursing Home at 2 p.m. on July 26.

The first place youth door prize winner was Eric Wallace and second was Christopher Johnson. Christopher joined the junior youth club today. The birthday cake was brought by Douglas Galler and the game by Kevin Galler.

Libbie Parma Trust Fund Awards Mary Alice Langlotz presented Amanda Neslony and Jodie McAdams with awards from the Libbie Parma Trust Fund. Amanda thanked everyone for their support and gave a short speech about her future plans, as well as Jodie McAdams, who also thanked everyone for their support and reported on his future plans. Congratulations to the both of you.

State FAC Gladys Yates spoke about different events forthcoming.

Two new lodges are being chartered.

They are Abilene on June 17 and Harker Heights on June 19. She reminded about the YAD on June 22 at Lodge 25 in Ennis, and she will be attending District Six camp, District Five YAD, District Three camp, and District Four camp. She reported that the barbecue at the SPJST Home Office was a success. She thanked everyone for their donations. Gladys also reported that she presented Amanda Neslony with a scholarship at Connally High School. Amanda also received several other awards at her school. Gladys presented Milan Dujka, III with a scholarship at his school—West High School. Milan, LeeAnn, and Megan Dujka received perfect attendance awards for the year.

Lodge 107, Floresville reschedules regular meeting to July 22 Due to the many summer activity conflicts in the month of July, we are forced to change our meting date.

The July meeting will be on Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at the lodge hall.

The adult meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. and the youth club will meet at 7 p.m. They will be making the final preparations for camp. Camp is July 27 to 30. Also they will report on District Youth Achievement Day (YAD) and make plans for those attending State YAD in Temple on August 9.

Old Business The Appreciation Dinner was discussed. The Volunteer Cookoff Team did not get to participate in the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department fund raiser because there were no other entries.

New Business Motion was made, voted on, and

passed, to donate $25 to the prize drawing for the District Six Cookoff.

The Volunteers Cookoff team may enter the Cookoff if there are enough members to have a team.

Lodge 196, Houston West reports on June meeting The meeting for Lodge 196 was called to order at 2:50 p.m. on June 22, 2003 following a potluck lunch.

It was reported that all tax offices have denied tax-exempt status for the lodge. Our beer license was renewed for the year. A request was made for recipes for the new cookbook.

Members Support Tournament It was decided to donate $100 to sponsor the golf tournament.

Members then voted in new member Rena Fuller.

Marvin Schulz said that he would get an estimate on gravel for the parking lot. Marvin and Alma Schulz and Danny and Blanca Nedbalek will be celebrating wedding anniversaries in July.

It was suggested that hall manager be a paid position. This will be decided at the next meeting. Hall rental fees will increase, effective August 1.

Next Meeting July 27 The next meeting will be July 27 at 2 p.m. Come early and join us for the potluck lunch. Everyone is encouraged to bring a side dish and attend.

Worth Ladies Circle reports on July meeting Fort

The meeting was called to order at 10:30. Martha Durham welcomed our guests, Debbie Akins, Margret Willenburg, Mathew Willenburg, Thelma Flipppone, Ryan Barret, and Marline Lughran.

A moment of silence was observed for the memory of Lillian McMillian.

She was a long-time member of the Ladies Circle. May her soul rest in peace.

The minutes were read, amended and approved. The treasurer's report was accepted. A card of condolence was sent to the McMillian famil)$.

Mary Ann Kozel announced that hostesses for our lunch are Kitty Rippen, Aurora Maldino, and Mary Windham.

Martha Durham announced that 45 people signed up to go on our trip to Bossier City next Tuesday. Everyone is looking forward to a good time and hopefully, some will come home smiling.

I, Evelyn Scaff, have agreed to chair the dessert booth at our Heritage Day celebration again this year. I will need everyone's help. Bring your SPJST cookbook out and bake.

Joyce Tesar announced there will be a dance Sunday, the 20th with Charles Nemec Band from West playing. Tickets are $6 with dancing from 2 to 6.

Betty Lloyd just returned from a trip to Europe, with three days in London, then to France, and even to Spain. She said south of France is beautiful. She had a wonderful time, but was glad to get home.

In Memoriam Memory of Daniel Malota In

Daniel Louis Malota, age 46 of Hillje, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003.

He was born July 21, 1966 in El Campo to Daniel Joseph and Josephine Palinek Malota. Mr. Malota was a 1976 graduate of Louise High School and later attended Brazosport Community College.

He married Denice Kucera on July 7, 1990 in Hungerford. Mr. Malota was employed as a jailer and deputy with the Wharton County Sheriffs Office from 1979 to 1986 and in the maintenance department of the Wharton County Courthouse from 1987 until 1992. For the past 13 years, Daniel has worked as a heavy equipment operator for Wharton County Precinct 4.

Mr. Malota was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford, was a retired member of the Wharton Volunteer Fire Department, having served for 22 years, and was a member of Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje.

Survivors include his wife; brother, Joe Malota and wife, Jen of Cypress; niece, Molly Malota of Cypress; fatherin-law and mother in-law, Ervin and Dorothy Kucera of Wharton; and brother in-law, Bo Kucera of Wharton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Pauline Malota.

Funeral Mass services were held Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church with Father - Henry Rachunek officiating.

Cremation followed. A rosary service was held Wednesday, June 18 at St. John's Catholic Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Frankie Peter, Bobby Peter, Darrell Nohavitz, Jimmy Kainer, Kenny Cicherski and Brad Tupa. Honorary pallbearers were Sid Border, Gordon Newton, E.R.Matus, Mike Orsak, and Nacho Rodriguez.

Memory of Donald Wolfe In

Services for Donald E. Wolfe, 68, of Temple were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Seaton Brethren Church with the Reverend Joe Emerson officiating. Burial was in Seaton Cemetery.

He died Thursday, June 26 in a Temple hospital.

Mr. Wolfe was born in Eddy to Clarence Wolfe and Lena Alsup Wolfe. He moved to the ShermanDenison area at an early age. He graduated from Tom Bean High School in 1952, and from the Western Union Telegraphy School in

Oklahoma City in 1952. He worked 20 years for Western Union and was the manager of the Temple Western Union office until 1971. During the Lyndon Johnson presidency, Mr. Wolfe operated the teletype for the press when President Lyndon Johnson was in Texas. He was a rancher and real estate broker until his retirement.

He had been a member of the TempleBelton Board of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors and SPJST Lodge 87, Temple. He married Annette Chlapek on December 10, 1966. He was a member of Seaton Brethren Church, where he served on the board of elders in various positions. At the time of his death, he was serving as mission director.

Survivors are his wife of Temple; brother, Fred Wolfe of Whitewright; and sister, Alice Burnaman of Shepherd.

Memorials may be made 43 the Seaton Brethren Church Building Fund, 12561 State Highway 53, Temple, 76501.

Memory of Milton Hoffman In

Milton J. Hoffman, age 78 of Weimar, passed away on March 18, 2003 at Citizens memorial Hospital in Victoria. Funeral services were held on friday, March 21 at 1 0 a.m. at the Hubbard Funeral Chapel, Weimar, Texas Interment was in Masonic Cemetery, Weimar.

Mr. Hoffman was born April 28, 1924 at New Burn near Weimar to Emil and Minnie (Heyer) Hoffman.

He grew up on a farm in the New Burn community in Colorado County.

On May 15, 1943, he married Margaret Lillie Krizak. Mr. Hoffman was a dairy farmer from 1956 to 1986 in the Oakland community and after retiring from dairying, he raised beef cattle and hay crops. He was also known in the area as a "true cowboy" as he loved riding, roping, and taught many true horsemanship", a gift he enjoyed and loved throughout his lifetime.

Milton, as he was referred to, was a member of United Church of Christ in Weimar and a member of SPJST Lodge 16, Bila Hora since 1947. In

1999, Lodge 16 was merged with Lodge 8, Weimar.

Preceding him in death are his wife of 57 years, Margaret; sister, Winnie Barborack; and brother, Eddie Hoffman. He is survived by daughters, Molly Jalufka of Moulton and Clara Disher of LaMarque; and grandchildren, Cody Jalufka and Kathy Marie Genzer.

One sister, Edna Barta survives him.

of Sympathy The officers and members of SPJST Lodge 25, Ennis wish to express our sincere sympathy to the family of ANN HASKOVEC. Ann was born on February 20, 1930 in Bardwell to Louis and Mary Spaniel Marusak. She attended and graduated from St. John High School.

On November 10, 1947, she married the love of her life, Ernest Haskovec.

Ann was employed for 26 years as a librarian with the Ennis Independent School District. Ann's friendship to the students as well as her love of books and reading will always be remembered by all who knew her.

She passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2003.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ernest Haskovec; daughters, Janice Matthews and husband, Jerry of Austin and Cynthia McCallum and husband Don and their two children, Victoria and John of Mansfield; son, Ronnie Haskovec and wife, Karen and their three children, Douglas, Daniel, and David all of Ennis; sisters, Mary Krajca, Jo Ann Strunc, Dorothy Matous and Adell Pouzar of Ennis; and brothers, Emil Maruska of Ennis, Jerry Marusak of Ferris, and Henry Marusak of Kaufman.

Rosary was held on Friday, July 4 at 7 p.m. Funeral services were at St. John Church on Saturday, July 5.

Burial was at Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis. _ Pallbearers were Jerry Matthews, Don McCallum, Charlie Pouzar, Raymond Matous, James Strunc, and Johnny Vrana.

Ann was a very special lady and will be missed at Lodge 25.

May she rest in in peace and her memory remain with us forever.

District One camp is just around the corner and I can't wait. We will once again have a record number of campers. This year we will be celebrating the SPJST Youth Program's 50th anniversary. The year was 1953 and believe it or not — I wasn't even born. In celebration of this 50th anniversary, we will focus on the era in which the youth program started the 50s. Plans include a 50s party so plan on wearing a 50s costume.

Check in time for camp is at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23. Closing ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 26 with departure between 9:30 and 10 a.m.

Below is a list of items that you will need to bring to camp.

Items Needed for Camp • At least three changes of clothes (shorts/tee-shirts).

• Jeans for horseback riding.

• Tennis shoes — a must.

• Swim suits (one for the pool and one for the canoeing).

Beach towel.

Twin sheets/pillow or sleeping bag.

Dear Members, A warm welcome is extended to all District Two members, family and friends to our annual District Two Youth Achievement Day (YAD) to be held on Sunday, July 27, 2003. Lodge 80, Holland will be hosting this year's youth spectacular. A special welcome is extended to members of all other districts, Supreme Lodge Officers and Directors.

District Three Youth Counselor readies campers and chaperones Dear District Three Campers and Chaperones, Final preparations of Camp Val Verde 2003 will be a smashing hit of the 50s!

Birthday party events are well under way for the camp theme of this year's camp. It is the 50th anniversary of the youth clubs, and we have been planning all kinds of things to do at camp.

District Three Camp at Val Verde will be held Friday, July 18 through Monday July 21. Registration on

Friday the 18th, will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. followed by your first scheduled activity at 1:30 p.m: The next two • days will be honoring the anniversary of the youth club with various games • and activities. On Monday, we will conclude our celebration after lunch to • give you enough time to pack your stuff and clean your cabins. This is one big party you don't want to miss! • So start packing your 50's costumes • and your clever skit ideas along with:

• Sheets/pillow/light blanket or sleeping bag.

Directions to Camp Val Verde The best way to get to Val Verde is IH 35 south to Highway 84 in Waco headed towards McGregor. You go about five miles to Val Verde Road.

There will be a green sign on the highway. Follow the paved road. The signs will lead you into the campgrounds.

We will have many late night activities planned to make you want your parents to come pick you up on Monday, July 21, 2003—of course, after you clean up your cabin and eat lunch at noon. So parents don't be late! I'm sure the kids will talk to you all the way home about camp being the best camp ever and all the activities they did for the birthday party.

Lodge 32, Victoria hosts District Six YAD July 20 at St. Mary's Parish Hall Dear Members of District Six, On Sunday, July 20, 2003, Lodge 32, Victoria will be hosting the Annual District Six Youth Achievement Day (YAD). It will be held at the St. Mary's Parish Hall in Victoria. The Parish Hall is located at 401 South Liberty across the street from the St. Mary's Church which is located at 401 South Main.

Youth from Lodge 4, Hallettsville; Lodge 30, Taiton; Lodge 32, Victoria; Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje; Lodge 63, Sweet Home; Lodge 97, Placedo and Lodge 148, El Maton will be competing for district titles which will take them to state competition in August. Competition prizes and awards will be given out for youth achievement, point system, craft, talent, scrapbook, poster, and royalty competition.

The YAD Program begins at 1 p.m. and I would like to invite each of the District Six members, members of all the districts, friends, and Supreme Lodge officers and directors, to come join us for a great afternoon of entertainment. It is very important that we support the youth as they display their many various talents. Your presence on this day will continue the support needed by our youth, future leaders of our Society.

Registration for all the youth's entries will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Please do not be late for registration, it will end at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be available for sale prior to the program starting at 1 p.m. Awards and competition results will conclude the day's activities.

We congratulate all the youth participating in District Six YAD. It does entail time with many hours of craft making and practicing. Remember — you are all winners for participating and putting forth that extra effort.

I look forward to seeing each of the youth and adults on July 20 in Victoria. Together we can make District Six Youth Achievement Day a huge success for all our youth.

Meeting was opened with Andrew Zielonka leading the Pledge of Allegiance. There were no new members or visitors present.

The minutes from the April meeting were read and accepted. , The financial report was read and accepted. Old business was discussed.

Youth Club Gives Donation to Cookoff New business included donating $25 for the District Six Cookoff prize drawing, and Andrew Zielonka reporting on his summer youth camp.

Officer positions were voted on.

Andrew Zielonka will be President; Kirk Wendel will be Secretary/Reporter; and Kayla Wendel will be Treasurer/Scrap Book Committee person.

Vestnik projects were worked on and the Merit Point Awards were handed out. Our youth leader displayed the new flag that was given to the club by the District Youth Counselor Marcy Dorotik. Thank you, Marcy.

Czech prime minister to visit Houston July 17-19 Houston will be the principal goal on his American trip for Vladimir Spidla,Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, to arrive here July 17.

First, he flies in from Prague to Washington, D. C. where he will meet with President George W. Bush and Department of Commerce officials before a conference at the National Press Club, and visits with World Bank officials and the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. They also plan to visit the site of the new Czech Cultural Center being built at the corner of San Jacinto and Wichita Streets with hosts Effie and Bill Rosene.

Purpose of Prime Minister Spidla,s visit in Houston July 17-19 is to encourage trade and investment between Houston and Czech companies in the high-tech, bio-tech and petrochemical/power industries.

The delegation is also seeking to form alliances with Houston based firms to identify opportunities in third world markets.
