Thanks for Your Business Let's Hear from You Over the last few weeks, we've been encouraging SPJST members who own large or small businesses to send in their listing for the 2002 SPJST Member Services Directory. Even though a lot of listings have been sent in, we know there are more out there.

Please, note that if your business was listed in the past directory, we still need to hear from you; otherwise, the old listing will be discontinued. This is being done because many of the old listings have become outdated due to area code changes and/or new 911 address changes. Please share this information with members you may know who could benefit from a listing.

Since the first SPJST Member Services Directory was published in 1995, it has grown to include more than 700 business listings, ranging from accountants and auto mechanics to musicians, beauticians and physicians. Many seasonal and part-time businesses have also participated in the directory. As in the past, the directory which is published in January, will include a comprehensive listing of all SPJST sales representatives and local lodge contacts.

Entering the Home Stretch With six weeks left to go in 2001, the goal of achieving 2100 new member certificate applications is within reach.

This is no small accomplishment: By year-end, these efforts could reflect an increase of more than 30 percent in applications written over the previous year! Mission 2100 updates appear on page four. Also, be sure to check out the new member referral chart appearing on page five and the youth referral chart on page 10. Your individual initiative is making a positive difference in the growth of the SPJST. The next six weeks are critical in achieving our Mission 2100 objectives. Around the State Education and Nature Center trustees receive Certification of Incorporation To the Members of SPJST As of the end of October 2001, we the members of the Education and Nature Center (ENC) have received our Certification of Incorporation from the Secretary of State of Texas, and our Employee Identification Number from the Department of Treasury and Internal Revenue Service. This will enable us to set up a bank account for donations.

I have also received the go ahead to file for our 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt status with the Federal Government. As this will not be an easy task, we do believe we have what it takes to be honored with this status. As we undertake the planing stages for this project, we have many ideas coming to the table that will make this a very admirable undertaking for the SPJST. We ask now and later for your financial and personal donations.

Youth Director invites members to holiday open house

State

Dear SPJST Members and Friends, I invite you and your family to an exciting holiday evening in Temple on Tuesday, December 4. The evening begins with the Temple Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. on Central Avenue. The parade is always a beautiful one, and it is one of only a few nighttime parades in Texas. SPJST will have several entries in the parade.

Following the parade, everyone is invited to the SPJST Home Office Holiday Open House. The Home Office is located at 520 North Main Street in Temple. The Open House

will include live holiday music and Christmas carolin g by the Chisholm Trail Chorus of Sweet Adelines.

SPJST State King Nathan Block and State Duke Dylan Schwartz, both of Lodge 160, San Angelo, and State Queen Jamie Lyn Novak and State Duchess Cayla Cloutman, both of Lodge 84, Dallas, will greet guests.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves will be taking Christmas wishes. The Open House will also feature children's activities and Temple Police Department's DARE Ident-a-Child program.

Horse-drawn carriage rides by Goodtime Carriage Rides will take guests around the block for an oldfashioned ride. Homemade cookies, kolaches, hot chocolate, coffee and apple cider will be served.

Throughout the holiday season, the Home Office will feature the Youth Christmas Tree, which will be decorated with ornaments designed and created by SPJST Youth Club members across Texas. The museum will also display a Czech Christmas tree with traditional Czech decorations. And, during the Open House, the museum will come to life with several areas featuring men and women who will be available to tell about different areas.

A doctor, a farmer, a World War II veteran, a blacksmith, a musician, a cook, and a needle-crafter will be featured.

A traditional Czech Christmas dinner will also be on display. This will be a true learning experience for all ages.

The Home Office will also be sponsoring a toy drive through the holiday season. Toys will be donated to the Temple Coordinated Child Care Council to provide a memorable Christmas for economically disadvantaged families.

All toy donations will be greatly appreciated.

The SPJST Holiday Open House is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit. I wish you a wonderful holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you and your family at the Open House.

State Youth Director invites members to "make an angel" Dear Members and Friends, While people all over the world are deeply sorry for the loss of so many lives in the United States on September 11, 2001, we're also sad for the families and friends of those who died.

As soon as Americans heard about the tragedies, they rushed to give blood and make donations to help the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and others working to aid the victims' families.

At times like this, everyone wants to help and show his support, so we're joining a nation-wide effort to remember those who died on September 11. I hope you'll take part, too. Created by Clapper Publishing of suburban Chicago, The Angel Project is an activity in which people are invited to make ornamentsized angels in memory of the victims of this national tragedy. During Christmas week, the angels will be hand-delivered to New York City for a special The Angel Project memorial service.

SPJST General Scholarships were established in 1982 for all SPJST members. General Scholarships are funded by the SPJST and voluntary contributions by SPJST members and friends of the Society. Accordingly,

SPJST General Scholarship applications are now available. To receive an application, contact the SPJST Home Office and ask for the Scholarship Department.

Applications and all required informaiton must be submitted to the Scholarship Department

by February 1, 2002.

SPJST records 1,761 applications through October in Mission 2100 program Through the end of October 2001, the SPJST had received applications for 1,761 insurance certificates. Over the same period, a total of 1,681 insurance certificates were issued. The goal of the 2001 Mission 2100 membership drive is to write at least 2,100 applications in 2001.

In conjunction with the SPJST's Mission 2100 program, local lodges have been assigned application quotas for the year 2001. In most cases, the lodge quota has been based largely on past performance and perceived potential.

The fourth column,"Youth Club Quota," applies to those lodges with active youth clubs and reflects the number of applications written for members between the ages of 0 and 17. "Youth Club" totals will be applied toward the lodge's total quota.

An asterisk (*) denotes that the lodge does not have a youth club. The sixth column "Lodge Incentive Count" reflects the number of new certificates issued for the Lodge Recognition and Incentive Program through October 30, 2001.

SPJST records 1,409 referrals through September in Mission 2100 program The SPJST's Mission 2100 program is a year-long campaign, calculated to generate at least 2,100 applications for membership in the Society by yearend. "For Mission 2100 to succeed, we must involve all levels of the SPJST towards achieving this energetic goal," said SPJST Supreme Lodge Vice President Gene McBride in an article which appeared in the January 10 Vestnik. "It's an ambitious goal, but one which I am sure we can achieve."

To help achieve the objectives of the Mission 2100 program, several incentives are being offered.

Members who make referrals that result in written applications will be recognized as follows: • Recruit One Member - Name in Vestnik.

• Recruit Three Members - Name and photograph in Vestnik.

• Recruit Six Members - Name and photo in Vestnik, photo plaque for lodge.

Lodge 25, Ennis reports on District Three Fall Meeting A day filled with fun was held at Lodge 25, Ennis on October 28, 2001.

Juice, coffee and doughnuts were served as District Three members arrived.

A welcome was expressed by President Linda Trojacek of Lodge 25.

She introduced Jake Holland who represented the lodge as king for District Three and Michael Junk as his duke.

Jake spoke a few words and welcomed everyone to our lodge.

A short business meeting, needlework and Christmas ornaments and children and adult costumes judging began. Lunch was served at 12:30 p.m. Games began at 2 p.m. and included five cent bingo, country store and let's not forget the haunted room.

Lodge 66, Waco reports on October meeting The meeting was called to order by President John Engelke on October 21, 2001 at Linden Hall, Elm Mott, Texas at 2:30 p.m. There were 26 members and two guests Tom Weeks and Johnnie Krizan present.

President Engelke stated he received a letter from President Howard Leshikar concerning forms for Fraternalist of the Year must be turned into the Home Office by December 14, 2001. He asked members to think about whom they wish to nominate as Fraternalist of the Year at out November 18 lodge meeting.

President Engelke also read names of letters that were returned to Vice President Gene McBride with insufficient addresses asking if they wish any additional insurance coverage.

Chairman of the Board, Brother Johnnie Gaidusek had Secretary of the Board Sister Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of the Board meeting which was held on October 3.

Due to the absence of Chairman of the Entertainfnent Committee Sister Gladys Yates, Co-Chairman Michael Galler gave the Entertainment Committee report. Today, they are having hamburgers, hot dogs, pickles, and chips. The members brought desserts. For the November 18 lodge meeting, members are asked to bring sandwiches and the Entertainment Committee will furnish desserts. They also had a brief discussion about the March 2 State Straight Domino meal.

He also reminded members of the upcoming Christmas party which is on December 16. Eddie Ray will cater the meal which will consist of chicken and sausage with all the trimmings.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Mary Alice Langlotz reported she received a letter from State Fraternal.

Activities Coordinator Gladys Yates reminding everyone of the District FAC Meeting at the Home Office on November 10. She also reminded members of the start of the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund on October 1, 2001.

Sister Emma Ceska of the Cheer and Condolence Committee reported that she sent get well cards to Brandy and Christopher Johnson who were in

an automobile accident; to Leona Nors who had a pace maker put in; to Marvin Brem who had surgery; and to John Engelke who was admitted to the Waco Surgical Center three time for kidney stones. We hope all are feeling better. Sister Emma also sent sympathy cards to the family of Agnes Janek; to Libbie Parma on the death of her sister, Frances Parker; and to the Milan Dujka family on the death of her brother in-law Donald Greener.

May they rest in peace.

Youth Report Youth Leader Sister Debbie Galler gave the youth report. There were 13 youth, six adults and one visitor, Sherrie Yates, present. The youth participated in the Moody Parade on September 22. They won a second place ribbon on the float. Today, the youth are passing out Halloween crafts to members which they made and they were very pretty. She reported that the youth will make Christmas Ornaments to be entered in the contest at the District Three Fall Meeting at Lodge 25 in Ennis. The youth will donate Halloween candy to the Moody Nursing Home. She also reminded the youth of the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive. Sister Debbie said that the youth would like to get a volleyball team together to participate in the State Volleyball Tournament. Sister Debbie said that the youth will go skating at Skate Country on November 4 at 2 p.m.

They also discussed setting dates to practice for the Christmas Program.

Today, the cake was brought by Jodie McAdams, the game by Douglas Galler. Youth first place door prize winner was Gena Weeks and second was won by Kevin Galler.

At today's meeting, Sister Libbie Parma of the Libbie Parma Trust Fund passed out youth point awards. Those receiving awards were Jodie McAdams, Amanda Neslony, Jamie Trickett, Kevin Galler, Douglas Gaiter, Dakota Yates, Maykayla Yates, Kylie Callaway, Charles Trickett, Kimberly Culliton, Trenton Guidroz, Tanner Guidroz, Nick Culliton, Gena Weeks, Katie Weeks and Tommy Weeks.

Sister Darlene Engelke read names of candidates for membership. Tim Urbanek wrote up Daniel Adam Wilde. Gladys Yates wrote up Michael Shae Tierce. Additional insurance was written up on Bradley Wright, Rosemary Banik, Geraldine Wallace, William Filer, Kaelyn Jo Dillard.

Transferred from Lodge 35 to Lodge 66 was Sandra Lynn Wilde. All were accepted into Lodge 66 membership.

Brother George Pauling reminded members of the District Three Fall Meeting at Lodge 25, Ennis on October 28. There will be a needlepoint contest, a Halloween costume contest for adults and children, a youth Christmas ornament contest and a country store. If members bring three canned goods (two for the meal and one for the country store), they will get their meal free. Registration begins at 10 a.m. There will be fun time after the meeting.

We were honored to have District Three Director Brother Johnnie Krizan with us today. He spoke on various interesting subjects. .Brother Johnnie thank you for visiting us today and for all your good input of SPJST matters.

88, Houston reports on Czech Day celebration, member updates Lodge

Our Czech, Day celebration turned out so great I decided to write more about it. One nice thing about special days is that you get to see some people whom you haven't seen for a long time. It was so nice to see Marian Mikes; she and husband, the late L.A. Mikes (who was famous for his braised beef for our lodge dinners) were very active for a long time.

Another member we haven't seen for months and saw her on Czech Day is Dorothy Dixon. She and her late husband, Abner Dixon, were active for years.

Talk about a real gentleman, Karl Hassebrock who was quick to help a lady who was carrying too much; he and Ora Nell were enjoying Czech Day! We had some officers from the Supreme Lodge whom we were glad to see: President Howard Leshikar, Vice President Gene McBride and Districts One and Five State Field Representative Lynn Johnsen!

Our thanks to to Lodge President Helen Hegwood and Vice President Marie Slayton for arranging the nice program. District Five King Bradley Hale and Queen Krystle Bender were presented and greeted us. It is always great the youth are present at our special activities, and I was happy to see Arlene Malak with that friendly smile.

It is good news to hear that Thomas Marsh who had surgery could come and Lydia was one of the busy ladies working. Get well wishes go to that popular founder of the Mens Club, Edward Miculka. Our good wishes also go to Ann Urbanovsky, Leland Hensley, and all who weren't able to come.

I want to mention some members who always attend our meetings: Willie Mae Ermis, Estelle and Steve Kelly, Edna and Willie Wehring and Linda Wehring (one of our active young people), Adella Hughes and others whose names I don get to mention often.

88, Houston accepting 2002 scholarship applications Lodge

Lodge 88, is now accepting applications for scholarship for the 2002 school year. To qualify, a student must be a member of Lodge 88 for a period of at least two years. The student must be paying local lodge dues and has to apply during the first semester of his senior year in high school with definite plans to enter college in the fall of the year 2002.

These forms can be picked up at the Lodge office at 1435 Beall Street, Houston, 77008 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and return back to the Lodge 88, Houston Office, Attn.: Scholarship Chairman, postmarked by December 31, 2001.

Lodge 133, San Antonio Thanksgiving luncheon set for November 18 Lodge 133, San Antonio will hold its annual Thanksgiving luncheon on Sunday, November 18 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Activity Center at 1630 Goliad Road in San Antonio, Texas.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 followed by a meeting and games party.

Each family is asked to bring a covered vegetable dish and/or dessert.

Please join us for the President's Ball on November 17. There will be a champagne dinner catered by the Lunch Box, 7 p.m., followed by the dance from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. with music by Sounds of Swing. Many thanks to Charlotte Roland who got together our hot-dog supper last month and working the concession stand with the help of Ken. Also thanks to Ed and Linda Mount, Frank and Dolores Juarez and Cindy Trevathan, who came out to help decorate the lodge. We did not have a volunteer to host and these guys jumped right in so we could have a dance.

Please remember, all of our work is done by volunteers. No one is paid, so please do your part in helping us keep our dances — just once a month to host would not put so much work on just a few. If you would like to help host our Christmas Dance on December 15, call Alma (936) 8295808.

We have several new members. If you have any questions about our lodge or would like a copy of our ByLaws, please let me know or feel free to attend our business meetings on the first Tuesday of each month. This is where we make decisions that concern the lodge. You may have some good ideas we need to hear. We always welcome new suggestions.

These are $500 scholarships and are presented to the recipients in July. If you need a application, please let one of the officers know.

200, Bruceville-Eddy reports on November meeting Lodge

Dear Members, The November meeting of Lodge 200 was held on Wednesday, November 7. President Bob Miracle opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. After a welcome, Secretary-Treasurer Linda Roming read the minutes which were approved as presented and the treasurer's report which was also approved.

We were happy to welcome two new members into the lodge; Patricia Rembacki and Mandie W. Weems. Mandie Weems of Gatesville desired to also become a sales representative for Lodge 200 and she was accepted on a unanimously adopted motion. We are always eager to take in new members. The more the merrier!

Correspondence was read which included announcement of the 100 Pennies Drive and participation was encouraged. An invitation was also read inviting all to attend the Temple Christmas Parade followed by Open House at the SPJST Home Office on December 4.

Christmas Party December 6 Because of a date conflict, the date of the Lodge 200 Christmas Party was changed to Thursday, December 6. The lodge will furnish ham and turkey and members are invited to bring a covered dish and/or salad or dessert. The party will begin at 7 p.m. followed by a very brief meeting and election of officers for 2002.

Again, please note the change in date of the Christmas Party to Thursday, December 6. We will have some great door prizes and a really good time. Plan to come.

Vice President Gene McBride reported that our good rate of 7.25 percent on Universal Life was still in force. He also had good news about the Mission 2100 goal in that only 245 members are needed to achieve the goal.

The lodge considered and approved a $100 donation to the local Senior Citizens group for their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.

In Memory of Fannie Sontag Vicic Fannie Sontag Vicic of Sugar Land, Texas, entered eternal peace October 24, 2001.

Mrs. Vicic was born December 18, 1901 in Snook, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Frances Kovar Sontag; husband, Jack Vicic; brothers, John, William, Adolph, Frank and Louis Sontag; and sisters, Julia Hand and Stacy Myska.

She is survived by son, Gayle Jack Vicic; grandson, Bill Vicic and wife, Sarhita; great-grandchildren, Billy, Luke, Michael, Jack and Melanie of Houston; sister, Lottie Pausewang of Sugar Land; sister in-law, Cecilia Sontag of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews; and special nieces, Colleen Grice and Johnelle Cooper.

Mrs. Vicic is retired froth Sugar Land Industries Dry Goods Department. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sugar Land.

She joined SPJST in 1923.

Funeral services were held on Friday, October 26 at Garmany and Carden Funeral Home, Rosenberg, Texas with the Reverend Kevin Keaton officiating.

Burial was in Morton Cemetery, Richmond.

Expression of Sympathy We, the members of the Resolution Committee, on behalf of the membership of Karel Jonas, No. 28, East Bernard, Texas, wish to express our deepest and sincerest sympathy to the family of our departed sister, LILLIAN KAINER, 89, of East Bernard. Mrs. Kainer passed away on Monday, October 15, 2001 at Czech Catholic Home for the Aged in Hillje.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 17 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard.

Interment followed at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Beasley. Father Henry Rachunek officiated the service.

Visitation was at 5 p.m., Tuesday, October 16 at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in East Bernard. A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m.

Lillian was born February 29, 1912 in Engle to Charles and Julia Kubecka Sbrusch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Julia Sbrusch; husband, of 65 years, William "Bill" Kainer; brothers, Louis, Charlie and Frank Sbrusch.

She is survived by a son, Lawrence W. Kainer and wife, Mary Ann of El Campo; daughter, Josephine Eagleton and husband, Norman of Sugar Land; grandchildren, Charles and Thomas Kainer, Teri Pfister, Glen Rutherford and Lisa Regan; brothers, William and Bennie Sbrusch; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lillian touched the hearts and lives of everyone she met and she will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 1 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley with Reverend Father Henry Rachunek celebrating the funeral mass and rite of committal. Interment followed at Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg.

Serving as pallbearers were Joe Janecka, Jr., Dennis Sbrusch, Mike Mungovan, II, Larry Kainer, Charles Hollier, Larry Kunz, Frank Sbrusch, Jr., and Bennie Richter, Jr. Visitation was held 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, October 31 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley.

A rosary was recited at 8:15 p.m.

Lillie was born September 3, 1912 and was raised on a farm near Weimar.

Her parents, Edward and Josephine Anders Janecka, moved to the Beasley area in 1928. Lillie married Charlie Sbrusch on May 5, 1931 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Beasley.

Lillie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, St. Anne's Altar Society and SPJST Lodge 28 in East Bernard.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. A woman of wit, integrity, commitment to her family, of service and dedication to her community and church, she served all with great love. She was a homemaker all her life, always working alongside her husband on the family farm. She also enjoyed cooking. Her kitchen and pleasing others with tasty pastries gave her much pleasure. She was a friend to everyone she met and was always ready to help others. She was loved by many and she leaves many loving and caring friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Josephine Anders Janecka; husband, Charlie Sbrusch; daughter, Bernice Sbrusch Steinocher; brother, Rudolph Janecka; and sister Frances Richter.

She is survived by daughters, Dolores Sbrusch of Beasley, Ardis Sbrusch Bacak and husband, James of El Campo; grandsons, Brad Bacak and wife, Crystal of Beasley and Jeff Steinocher of Houston; sister, Edna Janik of Rosenberg; brother, Joe Janecka, Sr., and wife, Christine of Richmond; son in-law, Edward Steinocher; extended family and caregivers, Lillie Witer and family; and Gloria Mungovan and family.

The family requests donations be made in Mrs. Sbrusch's memory to St. Wenceslaus Building Fund or the American Heart Association.

May she rest in eternal peace and her memory remain with us forever.

Make A Difference Day Projects Did your youth club participate in a Make A Difference Day project?

Please send photos and details of your event. So far, I've heard of two exciting projects. Lodge 6, Cottonwood Youth Club helped out their community by participating in a clean-up.

Lodge 47, Seaton Youth Club collected bottled water and then donated the water to their local fire department.

Youth Program Joins President Bush in Supporting Afghan Children In the news conference on October 11, President Bush asked for all youth organizations across America to join together and support Afghanistan's children by donating $1. The SPJST is proud to join this effort and appreciates your support. All SPJST youth members are encouraged to donate $1 to this project. All dollars received will be matched by the SPJST and forwarded to America's Fund for Afghan Children in Washington, D.C. Please mail your dollar to me at the Home Office. State Volleyball Tournament Hey, Youth Clubs! Want to build some camaraderie among SPJST members?

Want to experience teamwork?

Then, why not participate in the 2001 SPJST State Volleyball Tournament!

It will be held on Saturday, November 17 at the gyms in Rogers, which is located about 15 miles east of Temple

off Highway 36. Youth members in grades seven through 12 are encouraged to play. You don't have to be an active youth club member, but you must be an SPJST member. And if you do not have enough players to make a team in your lodge, how about partnering with another lodge. Hope to see you there! For more information, give State FAC Gladys Yates a call at the Home Office.

SPJST Home Office Holiday Open House You, your family and your lodge are invited to attend the Temple Christmas Parade on Tuesday, December 4 in Uptown Temple.

SPJST will have several entries in the parade. It is always a beautiful parade which begins at 6:30 p.m. Then, following the parade, everyone is invited to the SPJST Home Office Holiday Open House. The open house will feature live harp, flute and keyboard music, Christmas caroling, Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse-drawn carriage rides, homemade cookies and kolaches, hot chocolate and apple cider, DARE's Ident-a-Child program, and children's activities. Throughout the holiday season, the Home Office will feature the Youth Christmas Tree with all of the winning Youth Club Christmas ornaments.

Czech Christmas customs including a Czech Christmas Tree will also be on display in the SPJST Library, Archives and Museum. And during the Open House, the museum comes to life with several areas featuring men and women who will tell about their life's experiences. A doctor, a farmer, a World War II veteran, a blacksmith, a musician, a cook, and a needlecrafter will be featured. The official Czech Christmas dinner will also be on display. This will be a learning experience for all ages. I hope that you can attend the Home Office Open House on Tuesday, December 4. It will be so much fun!

SPJST State Camp Friday, April 5 to Sunday, April 7, 2002 I hope that you are planning to attend the first-ever SPJST State Camp. Hey, youth club members, please put these dates on your calendars. The camp will be held at Greene Family Camp in Bruceville-Eddy which is near Temple. The camp is open to all SPJST members — both active and non-active. Adults are invited, too. Details are still being finalized, but the approximate cost will be $100 per person. The Supreme Lodge is graciously providing a portion of the funding and they also created a dynamic incentive for youth members. Beginning August 1, 2001 through March 1, 2002, the Supreme Lodge will pay $12.50 for each written application referred by a youth member to be used towards that youngster's camp fee at the State Camp. 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive Has your youth club started a collection for the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive? If not, how about making some collection jars and putting them in your local neighborhood stores and collecting money for the SPJST Scholarship Fund. Many times, people will donate their loose change into these jars. I have placards available that can be easily slipped into a quart jar. If you need placards, please call me.

I Still Need Your Old Peepers!

I received the first two pairs of eyeglasses a few weeks ago from State Field Representative Lynn Johnsen.

Since then, I received several shoe boxes full from Lodge 6, Cottonwood Youth Club and a bag full from Lodge 24, Cyclone Youth Club. The eyeglass collection is a great project. I encourage your lodge and youth club to start collecting today. The Home Office will collect all of the eyeglasses and donate them to the eyeglass collection center. I wonder if there's a record on most pairs of eyeglasses collected in Guiness' book!

President's Student Service Challenge This is a really a good program and I encourage all school-age SPJST members to participate. Keep track of all of your community service hours with your lodge, community, etc.

SPJST will sponsor the 2002 awards to SPJST youth members. The awards are a gold or silver lapel pin and a certificate from President Bush.

Here's the awards:

Gold Award Students from kindergarten through college who have performed at least 100 hours of service within a 12month period

Silver Award Students from kindergarten through eighth grade who have performed at least 50 hours of service within a 12month period These awards will be presented to SPJST youth members at the 2002 Youth Achievement Day. The 12month period for the awards will be June 1 to May 31 to coincide with our youth year. Youth leaders are asked to complete an award certification form for qualifying youth members and return to me by June 1, 2002, to qualify for SPJST's 2002 awards.

6 Cottonwood b Youth Chu on November meeting Lodge

Dear Readers, The youth club held its monthly meeting, Sunday, November 4.

There were nine members present and two guests, Kayla Zimmerman and Stormy Miller.

I want to congratulate everyone that entered the Christmas ornament and costume contest at the District Three meeting. We had three first place winners — Celia Dobecka, Whitney Dobecka and Bracy Craig in the Christmas ornament contest and one first place in the costume contest — Lakn Dieterich.

The youth did a great job on October 27, "Make A Difference."

They cleaned everything in the kitchen. They cleaned drawers, washed walls, cleaned the stove and oven, cabinets, ceiling fans and anything that needed to be cleaned. The kitchen looked great. Also, they planted some shrubs along the hall.

That really enhanced the look of our lodge facility. We would like to thank all of the adults who came out helped with this project. Great job.

At our meeting, we discussed the upcoming volleyball tournament, Christmas craft for the rest home, Christmas party and program and the District Three Six Flags outing.

We will be working on the Christmas craft for the rest home on Friday, November 9, November 16 and December 7 starting at 6:30.

Everyone's help is needed. This is a large project as we have to make 150 items. Mark your calendar.

The youth with exchange gifts at the Christmas party. Each youth is to spend about $10 on their gift.

The youth will decorate the Christmas tree on Friday, November 30 at 6 p.m. We will also have our December meeting that night and practice the program for the Christmas party. Everyone needs to attend if possible.

The youth will be having a raffle at the Christmas party. Anyone wanting to donate an item to the raffle will be appreciated.

Youth Club Members, We all had fun at the carnival after the October meeting, especially the haunted house.

Friday, November 2, during the karaoke, the youth club opened the haunted house. We had a lot of kids go through. We all had a great time!

On Saturday, November 3, the youth made hot dogs, had a bake sale and had a raffle. The winner of the singing alligator was Gene McBride, Vice President of the SPJST Home Office.

Zella Zaskoda Lodge 17, New Tabor welcomes its newest member, Miss Zella Zaskoda. Zella is the sixyear-old daughter of Tim and Monie Zaskoda of Caldwell.

Zella also has an older brother, Sterling. She enjoys dancing, going to the beach and riding her horse and bike. Zella is a first grader at Caldwell Elementary.

Lodge 24, Cyclone Youth Club invites participation in volleyball tourney Dear Cyclone Youth Club, Our last meeting was held on October 28, 2001 at 2:10 p.m. It was led by our President Lori Coots.

October birthdays were J.R. Cooksey, Justin Benner and Kaley Benner. We have been very busy this month of November. On November 10, we had our District Two Lock-In at Flag Hall and we had our youth club meeting before the lock-in at 5 p.m.

Lodge 84, Dallas Youth Club Halloween party filled with fun Dear Vestnik Readers: On October 27, the Halloween party for Lodge 84's Junior Youth members was a big success, mainly because the weather was perfect for being outdoors. Several members wore costumes—cheerleaders, the Scorpion King, a maid, Batman, and I

was a Recon Ranger. Our first activity was to draw hand turkeys for our "Make a Difference" project. These turkeys were donated to a company who would put them on can good collection boxes for their upcoming volunteer project. We traced our hands, made it look like a turkey and then added colored feathers and the words Make a Difference.

Our next activity was pumpkin carving. Everyone made really scary faces on their pumpkins. For lunch, we bad monster fingers (hot dogs), fried bat wings (chips), cat eyes (cheese balls), alligator teeth dipped in mud (apple wedges with caramel) along with swamp water (punch) and cookies and cupcakes for dessert.

We played two games—tossing balls into a milk canisters and trying to eat a marshmallow from a string.

Both were hard. I g-uess I need more practice. Everyone received goodie bags of prizes and candy as they left.

Then on Sunday, October 28, my mom and sister and I attended the District Three Fall Meeting at Lodge 25 in Ennis. We weren't prepared for the costume contest nor did we arrive in time to make a Christmas tree ornament, however that did not stop me from having a great time. I bought a couple of things from the craft area and played the grocery wheel pumpkin toss several times. My sister played the cake walk a bunch and finally won a caramel cake. She must really like going around in circles!?

My mom played bingo and lost every game. Typical, she says.

Our next Junior Youth meeting will be at 6:30 p.m Monday, November 19 at Lodge 84. Call my Youth Leader, Bessie Petr for more details.

Meet under the cover area in the front of the ticket sale. You will be looking for Bessie, the District Three Youth Counselor. She will be paying for the tickets. I believe they open 10 a.m., but I am not sure. It will be an awesome time!

Also, Lodge 92 in December on the second Sunday, there will not be a meeting, but there will be a Christmas celebration! So be sure to show up for these events.

Plus, if any lodge members would like to donate pictures of youth to be in the scrapbook for 2001-2002 Youth Achievement Day please do so. Please give them to the youth Leader, Gayle Fuller or Teri Perez.

Czechoslovak Foreign Institute announces 2002 Prague Summer Study Program The Czechoslovak Foreign Institute announces the summer study program for 2002. Date of departure form the U.S. is June 28 and return date is July 24. Group participants will be housed in the dorms of the Agricultural School at Suchdol with double occupancy rooms sharing a bath. Single rooms are available at an extra charge. The dorm is situated in the northwestern part of Praha, linked to downtown by bus and subway.
