and genlemen; boys and girls! Come one, come all! Celebrate the achievements of SPJST's rising stars this Saturday, August 4, at the Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center in Temple. More than 300 young members from across the state will participate in the day-long event which represents the grand finale of the summer-long district contests. The day will be filled with talent, crafts and lots of excitement. The 2001-2002 SPJST State King and State Queen will be crowned on Saturday evening. Food will be available throughout the -day, including a pizza lunch from
II a.m. to 2 p.m. for $3. Admission is free and the public is invited. For the first time since the 1980s, State YAD will be held on one day. "We are looking forward to what promises to be a very enjoyable and entertaining day," says State Youth Director Melanie Zavodny, 'Our young members have spent countless hours preparing for this weekend. Come show them your support, encouragement and appreciation. " You won't want to miss this year's individual and group talent contests. Four beseda groups will also perform. Likewise, the districts' top crafts, special category, poster and scrapbook entries will also be on display and
SPJST district kings, queens vie for state crown on Saturday Best wishes to all of the young people competing in Saturday's State Royalty competition. All have distinguished themselves as winners at the district level. Brief biographical sketches of each follow: The District One King is Justin Pinkard of Lodge 13, Dime Box. He is the son of Wesley and Sharon Russell of Dime Box. Justin is a junior at Dime Box High School. His duke is his brother, John Russell. The District One Queen is Magan Zimmerhanzel of Lodge 13, Dime Box. She is the daughter of Dennis and Pam Zimmerhanzel of Dime Box. Magan is a junior at Dime Box High School. Her duchess is her sister, Ashley Zimmerhanzel. The District Two King is Kyle Penn of Lodge 24, Cyclone. Kyle is the son of Ricky and Kathy Penn of Temple. He is a sophomore at Belton High School. His duke is Samuel Vanicek, son of Brian and Joan
