AGE 96 PRESENTATION
Lodge 29, Taylor Age 96 member takes pride in membership The SPJST congratulates Sister Lydia Schernik who celebrated her 96th birthday on June 17, 1999. As such, Sister Schernik is entitled to all SPJST member benefits with no further dues or assessments required.
Lydia Schernik celebrated her 96th birthday on June 17, 1999 at the Taylor Care Center with approximately 25 friends and family members attending.
Sister Schernik was born on June 17, 1903 in Williamson County near the Walburg Community and baptized July 19, 1903 at the Walburg Lutheran Church. Her parents were Christian d Sophie Dutchman. She was confirmed April 1, 1917 at the Wuthrick Hill Lutheran Church in Taylor, Texas. On February 20, 1920, Lydia married Walter Schernik. The Scherniks, who farmed, had four children—three boys and a girl. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death in 1969 and a son in 1991. She lived on the farm alone for 29 years until October 1998 when she became a resident of the Taylor Care Center. (Continued on page 4.)
Family and friends turned out to show their support for Sister Lydia Schernik, front and center, who received her SPJST "Age 96" certificate on June 17. Seated, at her left, is son Curtis Schernik; to her right is son Lawrence Schernik; and standing directly behind her is her daughter Pearl Pokorny. The certificate presentation was made by SPJST District Two Director Frank Klinkovsky and his wife, Irma.
