SPJST posts "qualifying" member certificates written through June Through the first six months of 1999, lodges wrote 535 "qualifying certificates," in conjunction with the 1999 Lodge Recognition and Incentive Awards program. "Qualifying certificates" include all term and whole life certificates except for the Modified Whole Life plan and certain annuity

plans. Lodges participating in the program are working to achieve one of seven achievement awards, each of which is accompanied by a cash prize.

To qualify for the awards, lodges must also complete a defined number of fraternal activities, as prescribed in the box at the bottom of this page.

Through experience and observation, we know that the social and economic conditions which sustained the SPJST through its first century have changed.

What hasn't changed is the need for fraternal ideas and idealism. If anything, that need has intensified.

Responding to tomorrow's challenges will take creativity and hard work. It will mean putting members first and encouraging excellence at every level of the operation. It will mean evaluating all we do and asking ourselves, "How can we do it better?"

The defining moment will come in establishing clear and elevating goals for the SPJST in the 21st Century. An

Fraternalism remains a great vehicle for bringing people together and making their lives more secure. The longterm prosperity of the SPJST depends on our willingness to make timely and progressive improvements. By looking out for the good of the membership, everyone's best interests can be served.

Get a jump start on tomorrow. Take advantage of your lodge and district meetings. Talk about your ideas for making a positive difference in the growth of your lodge and the SPJST. And, when you do, don't hesitate to look to the past for inspiration. In the words of past Supreme Lodge President Edward L. Marek: "We should dedicate ourselves to renewed activities in the field of fraternal service. As we review the past, we recall the many blessings we received . . . and as we review the future, we see the unlimited opportunities that are ours if we but make an effort."

Motivators are winners (Editor's Note: Sometimes, you see something or run across something that really makes you think. That's what we found in our E-mail box this week. The following article was sent in by District Seven State Field Representative Larry Wagner and is adapted from Zig Ziglar's book, "Something to Smile About.")

The word motivation is often confused with manipulation. Motivation occurs when you persuade others to

take an action in their own best interests. Things such as people preparing their homework, accepting responsibility for their performance and finishing their education are the results of motivation. Manipulation is persuading others to take an action that is primarily for your benefit. Things such as selling an inferior product at an inflated price and working people overtime with no extra pay are examples of manipulation. Manipulation selfdestructs the individual doing the manipulating. Word gets out on manipulators, and people grow less and less likely to respond in a positive manner to their manipulation.

Productivity declines. Leadership occurs when you persuade a person to take an action that is in your mutual best interest.

Comparing motivation to manipulation is like comparing kindness to deceit. The difference is the intent of the person. Motivation will cause people to act out of free choice and desire, while manipulation often results in forced compliance. One is ethical and long lasting; the other is unethical and temporary.

Leaders and motivators are winners; manipulators are losers who produce resentment and discord. Become a motivator, lead your people and don't manipulate them.

Camp Report

On Sunday, July 25th, Robert and Lydia Dobecka with Ray and Stella Perez headed on out to the youth camp at Val Verde. The youth of Lodge 6 were at camp and also my son and grandson were there. Damon Perez of Lodge 92 with his son,Wesley Ray Perez and his friend, Bryson Turner.

This was their first year to go to camp and we all hope they enjoyed it enough to return next year. They were all hot, but seemed to be enjoying themselves, when we got there.

We arrived around their snack time in mid-afternoon and they were serving watermelon and snow cones. The snow cone sure hit the spot and the watermelon they were serving was delicious. All our youth welcomed us with open arms. We all enjoyed the afternoon with them, watching them swim, go horseback riding and even some water balloon launchings.

Johnnie Krizan, District Three Director and fellow member of our lodge, came later in the afternoon. It was nice to see him come out and join the activities. I did hear someone tease him about he would not come out to spend a night, but he would not miss any meal. We all did enjoy hamburgers and hot dogs with all the trimmings, along with a huge delicious chocolate chip cookie.

It was beginning to get dark when we left and the children were getting ready for their hayride. We enjoyed spending the afternoon and evening with everyone at camp.

Remember! The meeting time Friday is at 6:30 p.m. with a meal first.

Dear Members and Friends, It's been a busy year! About time for a break, wouldn't you say? Make plans to join your friends and neigbors as we travel to the Casino Avoyelles in Marksville, Louisiana on Saturday, October 16. The party bus will depart from the Seaton-Cyclone area at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in Marksville around 1 p.m. We'll get back home the next morning around 7 a.m.

Drinks and snacks will be provided enroute and a complimentary buffet will be awaiting you at the casino.

Bernard meeting set for August 8 Dear Members, The next monthly meeting of Lodge Karel Jonas will be held on the 8th of August which is the second Sunday at 2 p.m. in the meeting room at 106 Leveridge Street.

A standard order of business will be followed with no known pressing business on the agenda except the meeting date of the October meeting.

When the business meeting adjourns, the fraternal hour buffet luncheon with its regular fare will begin.

July Monthly Meeting Report A quorum was present when the meeting convened on the 11th. There was no business to pass on and all reports were accepted as given. It was reported that the District Six meeting was scheduled for the second Sunday in October which would be our regular meeting date and that our lodge would have to re-schedule our meeting either to the first or third Sunday. This decision will be made in the next meeting and no later than the September meeting.

Everything went well with the fraternal hour buffet luncheon.

Lodge 6, Cottonwood Lodge 24, Cyclone members check out invites members District Three camp and friends to enjoy casino road trip Hi! Just a friendly reminder that our meeting is set for Friday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m. Trustee's meeting will be afterwards at 7:30 p.m.

A meal will be served before our meetings start. Come on out to Cottonwood Hall and enjoy a meal with us, stay for our meetings, then perhaps a bit of socializing. Get in a game or so of some dominoes.

Then on Sunday, August 8th, let's all head on out to SPJST State Youth Achievement Day in Temple, Texas.

reports on July 18 meeting The meeting was called to order by President George Pauling at 2:30 p.m. at Linden Hall in Elm Mott on July 18 with all officers present. The youth presented the flag and led the Pledge of Allegiance and motto. There were 46 adult members and nine visitors present. Visitors were Frances Hilbers, Norma Lemke, Mark Richardson, Stormy Richardson, Steve Kaska, Amanda Kaska and from the Supreme Lodge Melanie Zavodny, Barbara Rosenkranz and Gene McBride.

Thanks to everyone who attended our meeting.

Members stood for a moment of silent prayer for our deceased member, Lee T. Reich. May he rest in peace.

Secretary Dana McAdams read the minutes of the June 13 meeting and they were approved as read.

Chairman of the Entertainment Committee Sister Dorothy Gerlich thanked everyone for the food they brought and for attending the meeting.

For the August 15 meeting, members are asked to bring sandwiches. The Committee will furnish chips, pickles and ice cream.

Sister Mary Alice Langlotz reported that there were 18 people present at game night on July 12. The next game night is August 9.

Youth Leader, Sister Diana Engelke reported there were 13 youth, six adults and three visitors Dalton Reed, Logan Putnum and Shane Brown present at today's youth meeting. She reported that at the August 15 meeting she will give the names of youth who participated at the District Three Youth Achievement Day in June. She reminded that camp starts July 23 through July 26. On July 29, the

Youth door prize winner was Candice McAdams, second place was Tommy Weeks.

Sister Gladys Yates gave highlights of Brian Tierce's life. Sister Libbie Parma of the Trust Fund presented Brian with a $200 award for graduating form high school. Brian spoke for a few minutes and thanked everyone for supporting him.

Sister Darlene Engelke read names of candidates for membership. Larry Matula wrote up Larry Ford matula and Gary Don moore. Johnnie Gaidusek wrote up Julie Rose Anderson, Jerry Anderson, Jr. and Jerry W. Anderson, III. All were accepted into Lodge 66.

President Pauling thanked brother Jamie Yates for mowing the grass around Linden Hall and to the Entertainment Committee for the extra work they are doing today.

Members present celebrating July birthdays were Louie Veselka, Gladys Yates, Dana McAdams, Ben Pustejovsky, Polly Gaidusek, Weldon Galler, Dakota Yates and Vincent Hilbers.

Adult door prize winner was Irene Mueller. Winner of the 50-50 prize was Milan Dujka.

Membership Rally

At 3 p.m. a membership rally was put on by the three visitors from the Supreme Lodge. A film was presented and games were played and prizes given away. Everyone seemed to have a great time. Melanie, Barbara and Gene, thanks for putting on the rally.

The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m. and a great meal was enjoyed by all afterwards. Thanks to everyone who attended today's function. Please come again and enjoy the fellowship.

The next Board of Directors and Entertainment Committee meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 4. The next lodge meeting is scheduled for August 15 at 2:30 p.m.

Lodge 79, Corpus Christi to observe "Make a Difference Day" October 23 The July meeting was held on Sunday, July 18. President Jerry Sijansky called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. with all officers present. Sister Helen Sacky and Brother Jerry Elzner have July birthdays, all sang Happy Birthday to them.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Helen Pavelka and also the financial report was given by Treasurer Milly Elzner and both were accepted as given.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Jerry Elzner gave his report. He stated that there were several from Lodge 79 who helped with the ice cream social for the Sokol gymnasts. Coming on Sunday, October 31 is a fund raiser which will include a dance with music

by Red Ravens, a prize drawing and door prizes. There will be prizes awarded for best costumes. The proceeds (after expenses) are to be donated to the Texas Czech Heritage Cultural Center. Brother Elzner urged everyone to promote this event by selling the prize drawing tickets so we can make a substantial donation. This event is sponsored by Lodge 79, Corpus Christi and Sokol, Corpus Christi. On July 4, there were 20 U.S. Flags in front of Sokol Hall. They were donated by Martin Realty. The flags sure did make a nice display.

Make a Difference Day Saturday, October 23 is "Make A Difference Day." We will have a work day along with Sokol, Corpus Christi, at the Sokol Hall and Lodge 79 will donate the sausage for the dinner for all the workers. Brother Elzner also talked about having Czech language classes in the fall. More details later.

One of our members, Sister Heidi Spangler has agreed to start working to have a youth club possibly in the fall.

He stated that Sister Edna Voldan brought samples of stuffed toys that are made by Golden Girls and then given to Driscoll Children's Hospital.

There was a motion made and approved that the $50 donation for July be given to Golden Girls to buy supplies to make the stuffed toys.

They will put it to good use.

The door prizes were donated by Brother Jerry Elzner and the lodge.

Thanks! The winners were Lil Hruska, Anna Marie Moss, Jill Sijansky, Lera Nemecek and Georgia Kubala.

The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, August 15 at 2 p.m. There will be a svacina after the meeting.

Members are asked to bring goodies to share. Everyone seems to enjoy this time to eat and socialize.

One of our members, Brother Thomas Zdansky, a farmer at Lyford, grew and harvested the first bale of cotton in the United States for 1999. It was brought to Harlingen on May 30, one of the earliest in several years. We congratulate Thomas for his hard work! We are proud of your feat!

receives donation for painting project Dear Members and Friends, President Harold Rohde called the meeting to order at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, 1999.

The membership stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for departed members.

The reading of the minutes by Secretary-Treasurer Glen Latham were approved as read. All committee reports by Brother Latham showed they are all doing fine. Vice President G.L. Brisbin and Fraternal Activities Coordinator Melissa Taisler were not in attendance at the meeting.

The painting of the outside of the hall and outer structures was near completion and the inside work would start shortly reported Brother Latham. At the writing of this letter, all is complete and the hall has a nice "face lift" inside from floor to ceiling. Thank you to the American Legion Post 526 for the generous donation of $1,000 for the project.

New members joining the lodge were Lucas Smith and Mary Ann Depew.

Birthdays at the July meeting were Harold Rohde, Ann Latham and Curtis Wolf.

Door prizes winners were Calvin Eckermann, Jewel Wolf, Elwood Bell, Florine Rohde and Frank Pajestka, Jr. Elwood Bell moved for adjournment seconded by James Sladecek.

Dear Readers, Lodge 84, Annual Princess Ball will be held on Saturday, August 21, 1999.

This year's King and Queen will mark the close of the century with bright new beginnings of the millennium.

House Committee Adolph Salac reported he sprayed to eliminate unwanted grass on the parking area, relaced light bulbs, checked the roof and the air conditioning.

Vice President Jarma read the Sunshine report. A sympathy card was sent to Sister Mary Nemec on the loss of brother, Joe Nestrole; to Jeanne Cobb on the loss of mother, Lydia English; to Barbara McCutchin on the loss of her father, Edward Swann; to Georgia and Sami Hughes, on the loss of mother, Imogene Hughes. Get well cards were sent out to Gene Sims and Raymond Rejcek. Vice President Ben Jarma gave the report on the Czech Culture Society details are being worked.

September 8, the folks who just love to go to Bossier City need not worry when the trip is scheduled. The bus leaves at 7 a.m. from our lodge parking area and departs at 6:30 p.m. from the parking area at Bossier City. The cost is $20 per person and if you have questions, call Sister Wanda Petr (214) 3524397 and she will answer all!

Czech Fest, September 19 Then September 19, our Czech Fest.

All the fun begins with door opening at 11:30 a.m.. A dinner, catered by Bessie's Catering will serve pork roast and all the trimmings plus tea or coffee. from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Our lodge ladies who are so good with desserts are asked to bring their favorite to be served with the dinner at a cost of $7 per plate for adults and $3.50 per plate for children, 12 and under. This includes the knedliky for the many of you wondering if Bessie is planning to make them!

Enjoy the gift booth, cake walk, grocery store, children's games, more games and a dance from 3 to 6 p.m. with music by the Vanek Band. As usual, all booths and the cake walk need donations! We know if you bring something (groceries, flowers, gift items, etc.) it will certainly help the lodge with this fund raiser. Happy hour starts after 12 p.m.

On August 21, Jodie Mikula will play from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. for the Princess Ball. The youth invite you to join them for a good time!

Our next lodge meeting is on August 16 at 7:30 p.m. Our President Justine Yeager would like to see you attend and be a part of our lodge's activities. You might say to yourself, "Why haven't I joined this once-amonth Monday night group?"

Youth Leader Bessie Petr did not have a report today because she and Brother Emil went for 10 days to the old "homeland," Czech Republic.

Meribeth Novak is in school there and Bessie and Emil were having withdrawal pains; I think it is called wanting to see their granddaughter so much which sent them to the first travel agency available to arrange for this trip. Enjoy yourselves, but remember camp at Val Verde starts two days after you return. Fast and happy living is what it is called, I think.

SPJST State Royalty and State Youth Achievement Day this weekend in Temple.

Lodge 87, Temple readying for October celebration SPJST Lodge 87, Temple met on Tuesday evening, July 13, following a surprise dinner brought by President Norma and Brother Don Alford in honor of their own 14th anniversary.

We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and observed a moment of silence for our departed members, especially Bill McDonald and Jesse H. Wisener. The June minutes were read and approved as was the treasurer's report, sent by our absent birthday boy, Daryl Entrop.

Our next order of business was to review our correspondence, which included a lovely note from Sister Irene Hluchan, who thanked the lodge for her 50-year pin.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Sister Thelma Groppell announced our birthday celebrants and in Brother Daryl's absence, I enjoyed the lodge's serenade alone! I also joined in our new birthday tradition of donating my age to the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive collection. Sister Groppell also described the SPJST Youth Achievement Day plans and read a letter announcing Czech Heritage Week to be celebrated in Corpus Christi from October 25th to the 31st.

Brother Sid Kacir gave his update on the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas. The UT endowment has grown to 1.7 million dollars, a fellowship has been funded at Texas A&M and they are recruiting more Texas schools to participate in their programs.

Vice President Lad Zatopek reported on our incoming water system. Our new water meter has been installed and we are now waiting for our plumber to reroute the pipes. Brother Sid Kacir suggested inquiring about "o-ring pipes" in order to avoid the complications common to pipes which need gluing.

I reported on the new invitations to our upcoming October lodge celebration. We plan to obtain an updated list of Lodge 87 members and will send invitation to those of our members celebrating anniversaries, to former officers, youth activists and new members.

Sister Groppell reported that we already have 21 new members this year and we applauded long and loud for our hardworking sales representatives, especially Brother John Troy who has appeared on the cover of the Vestnik with gratifying regularity!

Brother Don Alford has completed the formal schooling he has pursued this year. Now, he is working at putting his theories into practice!

We decided to have an ice cream social at our August meeting on the 10th. John Troy volunteered to crank his own, while the rest of us compared New Creations, Bluebell and Starbucks before we adjourned.

Committee Reports Entertainment—Betty Theiss reviewed the current dance schedule and invited everyone to come out on Saturday nights. Betty informed members that Texas Brew was disbanding; however, we have another country and western band from Hallettsville.

Board of Trustees—Guenter Merkle reported the Board recommended the walls be painted in the ballroom. This will include the ballroom, coatroom and small restroom in the stage area.

We heard at church yesterday, that Jake Jacob isn't feeling too well. We wish him the best. Karl Lindemann is in the hospital with internal bleeding.

According to Lowrina, he is being treated medically. We hope he will be home by the time you read this. Keep him in your prayers.

Lydia and Tom Marsh just returned from a delightful trip to the East. They flew to Baltimore, Maryland, where they were met by Lydia's daughter and son in-law, Carmen and Rick Eiserman, who now live in Atlanta.

Rick's parents and niece came in on the same flight with Lydia and Tom. They all drove to Carlisle, Pennsylvania where they attended the beautiful wedding of their grandson, Brandon Eiserman and his bride, Kelly Thumma. They were pleased to have all the Texas relatives. Uncle Lynn Hendrick and wife, Audrey, came from Dallas, Texas and Aunt Pam Basco came from Beaumont, Texas. All had a great time.

Who Is It? He was born on September 15, 1933 is a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and has been a member of Lodge 88 since 1955. He was married on September 18, 1954 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Columbus, Texas. He attended Willow Springs Sch-dol in Fayetteville, Texas.

He served in the Army for three years and attended radio and television school for two years while in the Army. He received an award in Soil Conservation in Kansas City, Missouri.

He retired from Houston Light and Power Company in 1992 where he worked for 37 years. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the lodge and is Vice President of the Mens' Club. He likes to go to Coushatta Indian Reservation to gamble. He does a lot of gardening and wood crafts. He is very faithful in coming out for the Mens' Club work days and operates one of the riding mowers, cutting the vast expanse of grass on our property.

Any time you want something fixed, just ask him. He is "Jack of all trades."

Who is it? He is Cleburn Lincke, who is married to Georgia Mae Kubala Lincke, has one daughter, Debra Lincke Osia, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia.and has twin granddaughters, Adrian and Brandi.

Marie Stayton's sister, Mary Jensen, passed away on Friday, July 23 and was buried on Tuesday, July 27. Our prayers are with you, Marie.

One of the greatest virtues is kindness. You might not love everyone, but you can be kind to everyone.

Lodge 142, Houston reports on July meeting On Sunday, July 11, 1999, our Lodge 142 meeting was called to order

by President Keith Kieschnick. There were 31 members and two guests at our meeting. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance and remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our departed brother Frank Mynar.

May he rest in peace.

All committee reports were read.

The Sick Committee reported that Ruth Kieschnick was in the hospital. Also Amy Kieschnick was in the hospital

and brought home a beautiful baby girl, Kaylee Tanner Kieschnick, who weighed six pounds and twelve ounces.

Keith and Amy are the very proud parents and please note Robert and Mary Ann Kieschnick admit that their little princess has arrived.

Visitors are Aaron Rosilier and Frieda Kieschnick. Our visitors are always welcome.

Birthdays for July are Dennis Hermis, Lorraine Motl, Dorothy Tumis, Pat Schleider and Rosie Schilhab.

Anniversaries are W.J. and Lillian Schmidt.

Their milestone was 66 years of marriage on July 18. Congratulations to this gracious happy couple.

Wednesday, August 4, 1999—VESTNIK/9 list. Libbie thanked lodge members for both the sympathy card and potted plant that she received from the lodge in memory of her dear departed sister, Julia.

The minutes were approved as presented and committee chairpersons gave their monthly reports.

We welcomed one new member into our lodge, Vickie Freeman.

Youth Leader Report Janet Lyon, Youth Leader, read the minutes of the youth club meeting and reported the results of District Two Youth Achievement Day held recently at Lodge 24, Cyclone. According to Janet's report, our lodge was well represented. Way to go girls ... and boys!

As always, Janet reported that it rained at camp. Somehow, it always manages to rain during District Two Camp.

What's with it? The next youth club meeting will be held on Sunday, July 25, 1999 at 2 p.m. at the lodge.

Our trustees reported that we purchased a new PA system and it will be installed shortly. Also the lodge has several rentals confirmed for next year.

After the trustees' report, Fraternal Activities Coordinator Barbara Rosenkranz gave her report. She reminded everyone of the 100 Pennies Drive that will be starting soon. Also October 23 is national "Make a Difference Day" and she is soliciting ideas from members so that we, too, can "make a difference." So far, with our donations this year, we've made a difference in the lives of many people and we hope to continue to make more.

New Business We discussed the wonderful efforts of the members at Lodge 24, Cyclone to enhance their community through the lodge and its members. In order to assist them in their continued efforts, Jackie Beck move that we donate $500 to Lodge 24, Cyclone. It was seconded

by Alex Garcia. The motion carried.

We hope to make a formal presentation to them at our next meeting. Way to go Cyclone, Lodge 24!!

FAC Barbara Rosenkranz volunteered to bring sandwiches and chips for the next lodge meeting. We can munch and enjoy each other's company prior to the meeting!

Linda Johnson, Helen Bland and Martha Garcia were appointed to audit the lodge books and report at the next meeting.

Gene McBride brought door prizes . .. and need we say more. Rosalie really wanted the fly swatter or was that Jackie who said she needed one? No, I think Otis said she didn't need such a heavy one. Well, I think Jackie won a cap and somehow possibly Rosalie got the fly swatter. I don't remember, but we all had fun. Thanks, Gene.

The next meeting of the Warrenton Lodge 179 will be temporarily held at the Carmine Lion's Club Building in Carmine on August 12 at 7 p.m.

President Sadie Kubin called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was repeated. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Mildred Tupy Baker, sister of Wesley Tupy, Anne Zvolanek, Mary Sebestik, Georgia Tupy, Libbie Wisniewski, Alice Roberts and Agnes Dujka. A moment of silence was observed in memory of Frank A. Laznovsky, father of Sylvia Laznovsky and Larry Laznovsky, father in-law of Lillian Laznovsky and grandfather of Laurie and Lisa. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved families.

Secretary Vlasta Laznovsky read the minutes. Treasurer Lillie Kosarek gave the financial report. Both reports were approved as read.

The Sunshine report was given by Eleanora Pelzel. She sent a sympathy card to the Laznovsky family. She also sent a sympathy card to the brother and sister in-law and to each of Mildred Bakers six sisters.

The door prize was brought by Betty Steagall and the lucky winner was Sister Bessie Laznovsky. The white elephant sale was fun and brought some cash for the Circle. Thanks to everyone who bought and brought items.

Congratulations! My grandson Ryan Thomas Roberts and Sara Hall were married on July 3, 1999 at the Roberts farm in Terrell, Texas. It was a lovely outdoor wedding. Our next meeting will be August 12, 1999.

A get well card was sent to Ella Hilcher. Here is hoping she is feeling better. It was mentioned that Ernie Dueser fell and hurt his back, but is doing fine.

We are looking forward to hosting and are formulating plans for the District Three meeting in October.

Lodge Dances, Events A family reunion will be held here on Friday, July 30. On July 31, Carl Vaugn and the Round Up Band will play. Cadillac Cowboys will provide music on Saturday, August 7 and Silver Lake is scheduled for Saturday, August 14. MorrisCode is set to play on Saturday, August 21, then Just Us on Saturday, August 28. Come out for a dancing good time!

Jourdanton collects old eyeglasses Lodge 202 met at Shorty's Restaurant on July 10th for their regular monthly meeting. We had 11 members and three guess present.

After a delicious meal, the meeting was called to order by Vice President Mary Ann Barta.

Patsy Tyrnrak gave an informative review of the new Genealogical Library for Atascosa County which is located in Poteet.

We had Bob Bayer and his wife, Polly, as our guests. Bob spoke to the members and suggested that we have our members donate any old eyeglasses as a project. At a later date, we will give them to the Pleasanton Lion's Club.

Our next meeting is August 1, 1999 at Jourdanton State Bank. Remember to bring your old eyeglasses.

It was described as a Chihuahua mix, stumpy legs, pointy snout, old geezer whiskers, ears studded with ticks and a flourishing case of mange. Number 36 was also as sweet and charming. Ms: Jurek noted the overloaded barking dogs and howling cats - "pick me, pick me, pick me." It is now or never for Number 36 who sat patiently. Ms. Jurek put a leash around his head. Dog number 36 stepped forth, almost disbelieving the abrupt shift in fortune. (To be continued in my September letter.)

District Two invites members to enjoy August 14 trip to Fiesta Texas District Two has scheduled its summer trip for Saturday, August 14, 1999.

We are going to try once again to visit Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.

Hopefully, this year there will be no rain. In case of the forecasting of heavy rain, we will detour to the north to Six Flags Over Texas. The change of plans will be made the day before if needed.

Plans for Fiesta Texas Chartered buses will leave promptly at 7 a.m. from the Supreme Lodge Home Office parking lot in Temple and then make a stop in Taylor. The buses will arrive back in Temple at 2 a.m.

All members of District Two are invited to join us for the fun-filled day.

Tickets to Fiesta Texas are $20 each and the bus fare will be $10 per person.

Active youth club members, please check with your youth leader regarding your" tickets. Please have your tickets and bus fare paid by August 10. This will give me time to scedule the number of buses and tickets needed.

Get a group together and join us.

Let's continue the 1999 tradition of the biggest and best in District Two. Please call me if you have any ques tions and to reserve your space and ticket.

Dear Readers, The Snook Youth SPJST Youth Club had their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 7. It was well attended and we had two new members, Jenna and Robin Jakubik. We discussed Youth Achievement Day and camp. After the meeting, Holly Narro spoke to us about first aid and we made candle holders.

On July 11th, we had District One YAD. It was fun and I won first place on my picture.

On July 19th, I went to camp at Camp Val Verde. I had a great time.

Our next meeting will be on Augtast 4th at 6:30 at the park.

25, Ennis youth club members write poems in July Lodge

The Youth Club of Lodge 25, Ennis held its July meeting on Sunday, July 18. We discussed our previous blowing trip and making sure everyone and a ride to camp. We finished our stained glass vases. After our craft, I gave my youth club members a sheet of paper and five minutes to come up with a poem about summer. Here are a few: Summer, summer, summer fun; Because everything is fun and done; And makes us run in the hot sun.

88, Houston youth enjoys best camp ever Lodge

Dear Readers, This year was the best camp year District Five has ever had. For five days, we went to HEB Foundation Camp from July 18 - July 22. On Sunday, we left for our long drive up there. On Monday night, we got to go star gazing with Robert Castillo as our guide. On Tuesday, we went on a field trip to the Y.O. Ranch and took a tour around the place. After the Y.O. Ranch, we went to a taxidermist and we saw how the animals were stuffed.

After the taxidermist, we headed back to camp, but on the way back, we got to walk in the river. On Wednesday,

154, Fort Worth youth leader encourages State YAD attendance Lodge

There were several youth members that attended camp. They were Frankie Brown, Stevie Brown and Krysten Brown, Caitlyn Conaway, Lane Conaway, Appa Hargiss, Kelsey Lyon, Grant Lyon, Melanie Mason, Brandi Mason, Paris Milan, Amy Roach, Preston Hund, Elizabeth Parker, Thomas Parker and John Wartelle.

Rome Milan went as a camp cousnelor instead of Youth Leader Mila Milan since she is expecting a baby soon. Mary Steinman, Assistant Youth Leader, was also a counselor representing Lodge 154.

Everyone had a great time and many friendships were made and strengthened. Many of the youth participated in District Youth Achievement Day as well as camp. So many get to see each other three times in the summer.

• The District YAD was held on June 27 at Cottonwood. Appa Hargiss entered the sewing category and was third. Paris Milan was second in talent, pictorial arts, constructed items and first in science and education. Money prizes are given even for honorable mention and every youth that attends, even if they do not participate, receives $5. I encourage all youth to make an effort to enter items into the YAD next year, or at least to come and watch.

The Beseda performance and the talents are very entertaining.

The State YAD will be Sunday, August 8. All youth can enter a special category contest whether or not they went to the District YAD. If you have a youth age six through high school senior in the SPJST Lodge 154, and you would like more information on YAD, camp or the merit system, please call Mila at 236-3620. Thank you.

Czech Heritage Society of Texas announces "Texas Military Veterans of Czech Descent" A ten-year project of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas will come to fruition in September with the publication of Texas Military Veterans of Czech Descent. The project of collecting profiles and photographs was conducted by members of the fourteen chapters of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas. This book is the result of years of work by individual members of the society and so there is no one editor or author, Those taking part in this ambitious project depended on individual families to provided accurate information. The more than 2A00 profiles are veterans of all American wars in the 20th Century including World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and the more recent Desert Storm.
