100 Pennies Scholarship Fund donations top $7,000 mark 71
One
of the benefits that the SPJST makes available to its memba-s is a competitive scholarship program. The Scholarship/ Grant Program is meant to encourage and assist younger members to further their education and to help them achieve career goals. General scholarships are funded through a grant extended by the Supreme Lodge and voluntary contributions by SPJST members. Through the end of February, the 1998 - 1999 SPJST 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive had received contributions totaling $7,030.61. The drive continues through March 31, 1999. Late Night Swim
Members of Lodge 6, Cottonwood enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool during the recent SPJST Statewide Lock-In held in Waco. The all-night event, which followed the the Youth Club Officers' Workshop offered young people a range of recreational options, including basketball, racquetball, "walleyball," volleyball, snacks, games and indoor swimming. by State Youth Director Melanie Zavodny The 1999 Youth Club Officers' Workshop was held Saturday, January 16 in the auditorium at Providence Hospital in Waco. Approximately 130 young people and adults attended the workshop. Following registration, participants played the signature game. They collected signatures from other participants who identified with phases like "Never saw the movie Titanic" "Likes to surf the Internet," and "Can sing A ja
sam." The workshop began with State Fraternal Activities Coordinator Barbara Rosenkranz and State Youth
Director Melanie Zavodny leading the participants in a card relay. The state youth director then explained the duties and responsibilities of the youth club officers and committees. Ms. Rosenkranz presented "What's SPJST?" She informed the participants of all of the activities and benefits SPJST offers to members. At the conclusion of her presentation, she quizzed the participants, and correct responses were rewarded with SPJST prizes. Mr. Torimy Engelke of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council then presented "A Blueprint for Dynamic Leadership." He led the young people in various games. He challenged them to think about the characteristics of a
