In 1998, District Fraternal Workshops, or "Tapping the Great Mind" workshops were held in every SPJST district, attracting more than 160 participants from across the state. My grateful thanks to the hosting lodges and to all who participated. I am ever amazed at how SPJST members are always one step ahead of me during the workshop discussions. Before I can get to the next subject for discussion, they manage to bring it up themselves to be addressed. Host Lodges Lodges that hosted fraternal workshops during 1998 were: Lodge 29, Taylor, Lodge 40, El Campo-Hilije, Lodge 107, Floresville, Lodge 49, Rowena, Lodge 79, Corpus Christi, Lodge 6, Cottonwood, Lodge 186, Caldwell, Lodge 88, Houston and Lodge 84, Dallas. The SPJST Home Office also hosted workshops. Thanks to our District Fraternal Activity Coordinators who participated in and helped to conduct the workshops: District One-Linda Gaas, District Two--Ruth Hanusch, District Three-George Pauling, District Four-Elizabeth Walther, District Five-Fred Buri, District Six-Helen Zabransky and District Seven-Glenn Pruski. Usually, they were my "penny pinchers" and award "handerouters." Thanks also to local lodge Fraternal Activity Coordinators, Supreme Lodge Officers, District Directors, District Youth Counselors, State Field personnel, Lodge Officers and Youth Leaders who pitched in when needed and helped to support these fraternal workshops.

Spread the Good Word! The 1998 Membership Drive will continue through December 31. It provides us with an excellent opportunity to examine our changing needs and to help our volunteer sales force spread the word about SPJST insurance. At the same time, we can communicate with others, news of what our local lodges are doing to improve life in our communities. Through these kinds of discussions, we can help attract new members to our fraternal order. Your active participation can help to make this year's membership drive a success. As an added incentive, members who recommend at least two new members in 1998 will L' have the opportunity to earn a variety of SPJST promotional items.

A Learning Experience During this past year, lodge members and officers have taught me a lot. Not by saying, but by doing. During high tides and low, you have been steady, carrying on the projects in your lodges and communities. You have committed yourself to tremendous projects and goals, you have talked, walked, lived and breathed fraternalism. (Continued on page 3.)
