Larry Wagner named District Seven State Field Representative Larry
Wagner, 31, of Poteet, Texas is the new State Field Representative for SPJST District Seven. In this capacity, he will work with sales representatives to generate new business and achieve sales objectives in District Seven. District Seven lodges include Lodge 26, Skidmore; Lodge 79, Corpus Christi; Lodge 93, Hobson; Lodge 107, F/oresville; Lodge 117, Robstown; Lodge 133, San Antonio; Lodge 137, Taft; Lodge 161, Jourdanton; Lodge 185, New Braunfels; and Lodge 202, Jourdanton. "I am confident that Larry will provide the sales representatives of District Seven with the level of service and professional assistance they deserve," says Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, who made the selection. Mr. Wagner, who was born in Houston, grew up in Granbury and graduated from Tarleton State University in Stephenville with a bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology. He previously was employed as a mechanical designer and supervisor with Pacific Machine Shop Inc. in San Antonio and as a field representative for KJZT. He is a member of SPJST Lodge 161, Jourdanton, founding president of the Atascosa County Jaycees, a member of the Pleasanton Noon Lions Club, RVOS sales representative and co-leader of the Pleasanton Deanery Men's Act Retreat. He and his wife, Kathy Kosub Wagner, have one son, Morgan, 7; and two daughters, Shawnie, 5, and Rebekah, 1. They are members of St. Luke's - Loire Catholic Church. Larry's interests Include computers, "anything with an engine," and auto racing. "I'm, looking forward to meeting and working with our sales representatives," says Larry, who has already achieved his FIC (Fraternal Insurance Counselor) designation. Newly Designated District Three FICs honored at Arlington banquet ongratulations to the 18 newly certified Fraternal Insurance Counselors (FICs) who were honored at a banquet held July 16th in Arlington. Since the FIC designation was first awarded in 1937, the privilege to put these letters behind one's name has been a hallmark of professionalism for sales representatives and home office fraternalists. The graduates that were honored in Arlington began their studies in May of 1997 and were applauded for their
persistence in completing the challenging study course. FIC certificates were presented by District Three Director Johnnie Krizan and State Field Representative Jerry Kucera. Master of Ceremonies for the program was Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, who was assisted by State Field Manager Gene McBride. Special guests included Honorary District Three Director Sid Pokladnik and the spouses and guests of the honorees. —SPJST-

Melanie Zavodny appointed SPJST State Youth Director Melanie Zavodny, 25, of Rogers is the new State Youth Director, effective September 1. In this capacity, and under general supervision of the Supreme Lodge President, she will direct and coordinate all aspects of the SPJST Youth Melanie Zavodny Program. Melanie, who received her Associates Degree, with an emphasis in communication, from Temple College, will be receiving her bachelor's degree in Social Science and Communication from the University of Alabama in 1999. For the past four years, she has worked at the SPJST Home Office as Communications Assistant. Prior to working for SPJST, Melanie worked as a proofreader and paste-up artist at the Temple Daily Telegram. She also served as a sales associate with Dillard's Department Store in Temple. "We're very pleased to have her aboard," says Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar. "Melanie has been involved in the SPJST and especially the youth area for a number of years. We have a lot to look forward to and I'm sure everyone is looking forward to working with her in her new position." Apart from her work at the Home Office, Melanie achieved the Fraternal Insurance Counselor designation this spring and is a sales representative and reporter for Lodge 24, Cyclone. She is also past youth leader. Moreover, Melanie brings with her a lifetime of SPJST youth club experience. She is past District Two queen and was first runner up in the Miss SPJST competition held in conjunction with the 1992 SPJST Convention in Victoria. She is also a past SPJST Scholarship recipient. "We have a wonderful opportunity through our Youth Program to reach out and get our young members and their parents involved in the SPJST," says Melanie. "I'm anxious to evaluate every aspect of the program and determine how we can make it better." Her interests include tennis, walking, writing, aerobic dancing, spending time with family and friends and travelling.
