„Food 0!' Fashioned Fun

SPJST Home Office drop off location for Temple Santa Pal prc . c SPJST lodges and members in the greater Temple area who would like to participate in Temple's 1997 Santa Pal program may drop off their new and/or used toys at the SPJST Home Office Building at 520 North Main in Temple. Office hours are Monday Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Since it was organized in the 1930s, Temple's Santa Pal program has sought to provide toys for deserving youngsters in the Temple area. Holiday visitors to the building are also encouraged to visit the SPJST Museum and see the Christmas tree which features ornaments made by SPJST youth club members from around the state.

Apply before December 31 for '98 SPJST scholarship applications As part of its longstanding Scholarship Program, the SPJST will he offering $750 scholarships to qualified members in 1998. This represents an increase of $250 per scholarship awarded during 1997. Graduating high school seniors and college undergraduates who have been members of the SPJST Society for one year or more may submit a request for a scholarship application until December 31, 1997. Requests for an application can be made to:

Lodge 17, New Tabor member Vlasta Mais Schoeneman achieves the "Grand Age of 96" The SPJST congratulates Sister Vlasta Mais Schoeneman, a member of Lodge 17, New Tabor, who celebrated her 96th birthday on August 18, 1997. As such, Sister Schoenemann is entitled to all SPJST member benefits with no further dues or assessments required.

born in Austria and her mother was from New Tabor. Vlasta had two brothers and two sisters who are deceased. Her sister Loretta lives in Indian Springs, California. Sister Schoeneman enjoy; telling the story of how she and her husband-tobe, Frank Schoenemann, met. Frank's family lived in Snook and Vlasta's family lived near New Vlasta Schoeneman Tabor. Once a year, Frank's family rode the buggy to Caldwell to pay taxes . . . Since their home was the half-way point, the Schoeneman family would often stop and visit with the Mais family on the way to and from Caldwell,Vlasta recalls. As they grew older, she and Frank started taking notice of each other. In 1921, they married in New Tabor. Frank served in the military during World War I. When he returned, he and Vlasta farmed and raised five children, Milton Schoeneman (wife Dolores) of Pasadena, Texas; Mavis Earles (husband Milton) of Lufkin, Texas; Joyce Miller (husband John) of Crosby, Texas; and David Schoeneman (wife Dorthy) of Caldwell, Texas. Son Louis Schoeneman passed away in 1991. They also took in another youngster, (J.C. Benton) and raised him as their own. Frank, who did all the driving, passed away in 1975. Vlasta's next move was to enroll in the summer driver education program and receive her driver's license. As Vlasta explains, she didn't want to depend on someone to drive her everywhere so she went
