Lodges entering "home stretch" of 1997 recognition and incentive program As of September 30, 1997, several lodges had posted enough new member certificates to qualify for one of the 1997 Lodge Recognition and Incentive Awards. The listing below identifies these lodges and the awards for which they may qualify. Please note that a complete listing of all lodges, "new members" signed and and fraternal activities completed (based on fraternal activity reports submitted) will be forthcoming in the Vestnik. For their efforts, lodges participating in the Lodge Recognition and Incentive Program are working to achieve one of six lodge awards - The Platinum Award, The Gold Award, The Silver Award, The Bronze Award, Honorable Mention and First Step Award. The awards - each of which is accompanied by a cash award will be presented at the Statewide Lodge Recognition and Incentive Banquet to be held in conjunction with the 1998 Annual Local Lodge Workshop. With just two months left to go in 1997, all local lodges are encouraged to continue working to achieve one of the incentive awards. Now is the time to request your 1998 SPJST scholarship application As part of its longstanding Scholarship Program, the SPJST will be offering $750 scholarships to qualified members in 1998. This represents an increase of $250 per scholarship awarded during 1997. Graduating high school seniors and college undergraduates who have been members of the SPJST Society for one year or more may submit a request for a scholarship application until December 31, 1997. In the spring of 1997, the SPJST Society awarded $50,000 in scholarships. Almost 930 scholarships have been given by the SPJST since 1983. The scholarship program is administered and funded by the Supreme Lodge SPJST located in Temple, Texas, and from contributions by members and friends of the society.

100 Pennies Scholarship Drive A big part of the funding to support the SPJST's Scholarship Program comes from members like you. In 1997, the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive generated more than $13,000. This amount, combined with various other allocations and gifts, made the 1997 Scholarship Program a big success. "The concept of the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive is based on many people helping out to make a big impact," explains State Fraternal Activities Coordinator Barbara Rosenkranz, project coordinator. Your gift is encouraged. For additional information on how you can participate, please refer to the 100 Pennies Scholarship notice which appears on page 14. -SPJST-
