Delegates and guests of the Texas Fraternal Congress (TFC) will gather in Abilene for their 97th annual conference on October 24, 25 and 26, at the Embassy Suites Hotel. The membership of the TFC consists of fraternal societies operating in Texas. Each year, the TFC holds a conference to bring its members together for education and fellowship. The host for this year's conference is TFC President William R. Dees of Abilene. W. Wayne Graham, the newly-elected president of the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA), will address the convention during the Friday evening banquet. Also scheduled to attend is Vera Wilt, NFCA Board SecretaryTreasurer. She will speak on the new laws and regulations that will become effective on January 1, 1998. The Youth Spectacular is scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at 2 p.m. Youth club members representing SPJST Lodge 30, Taiton, Lodge 160, San Angelo and Lodge 185, New Braunfels are scheduled to perform. SPJST State King J.J. Novak of Lodge 84, Dallas and State Queen Elizabeth Wagner of Lodge 4, Hallettsvil]e are also scheduled to make presentations. On Saturday evening, the delegates and guests will be treated to a western cookout and dance at the Lytle Bend Ranch. The conference concludes Sunday morning, following an Ecumenical and Memorial Service. Each year, the TFC adopts a charity in the convention community. This year, President Dees has named the Harmony House, a non-profit organization, as the recipient of its fund-raising effort. Harmony House provides temporary shelter for abused children. SPJST delegates scheduled to attend are Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar, Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska; District Two Director Frank Klinkovsky; State Youth Director Joni Lange; State Field Manager Gene McBride; State Field Representatives Keith Gatewood, Helen Hegwood, Jerry Kucera, and Jim Wiest; and past District Three Director Sid Pokladnik. —SPJST-
