FIC course conditions sales representatives to excel in changing insurance market Fraternal life insurance: It's an old-fashioned idea with an ever-changing set of features and marketing considerations. For that reason, top-selling SPJST sales representatives put a premium on continuing education. At the present time, 81 SPJST field workers and Home Office personnel are enrolled in classes, pursuing their designation as Fraternal Insurance Counsellors (FIC). Attaining the FIC designation comes through the successful completion of examinations based on the contest of three courses — The Fraternal Sales Training Program Basic Course, Intermediate Course and Advanced Course. High Standards
"The standards of the successful field worker are continually being raised. Education in the sale and service of life insurance is vital," says State Field Manager Gene McBride, citing a passage from Volume One of the FIC training course. "I've been overwhelmed with the response to the program by our sales representatives. The 81 participants who completed the Basic Course reflect approximately one-third of our active sales force," Mr. McBride says. "Enrollment in the FIC Study Program is totally voluntary," he observes. "The high percentage of participants speaks highly about the initiative of our volunteer sales force." FIC training classes are being conducted statewide by SPJST state field representatives. They are now reviewing the Intermediate Course and will be tested on the material by year's end. Mr. McBride anticipates that classes will complete the Advanced Course and its accompanying exam next March. A second FIC training class will likely commence in the fall of 1998. At the present time, 14 SPJST sales representatives and Home Office personnel hold the FIC designation. They are: Alice Banning (47), Kathy Fritz (177), Keith Gatewood (87), Helen Hegwood (88), Kay Lynn Kovar (25), Jerome Hlavaty (153), Barry Koch (161), Gene McBride (200), Evelyn Mikeska (196), Leonard Mikeska (24), Betty Olson (84), Jarolyn Popp (133), Daniel Roznovsky (183) and Jim Wiest (79). AC .Classes Address Wide Range of Fraternal insurance Topics Since the first Fraternal Insurance Counsellor (FTC) designation was first awarded in 1937, the privilege to put these letters behind one's name has been a hallmark of professionalism for fraternal insurance sales representatives and home office personnel. Indeed, the FIC designation has become the acknowledged standard of fraternal field education, demonstrating a commitment to ethics and providing career development and professional recognition. "Receiving the FIC designation is highly commendable," says Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, who holds the designation. To qualify to receive the FIE designation, a person must pass a series of three examinations and also meet certain experience and ethical requirements. • • Part I
The Basic Course consists of two sections. The first section has four study units and tells the story of the development and growth of fraternal life insurance. It discusses the distinctive characteristics of the fraternal system and its methods of operation and emphasizes the high objectives of fraternalism. The second section is a complete study of life insurance fundamentals and life insurance sales principle& A supplementary text, Ethics for the Insurance Professional, accompanies the Basic Course. Part II
The Intermediate Course offers a practical study of life insurance marketing and its specific application to each of the several personal markets of life insurance prospects, including the Young Adult Market, Affluent Market, Retirement Market, Business-Owner Market and Farm and Ranch Market.
