Some "Wonderful surprises" along the way

100 Pennies drive extended through end of month Through December 27, the SPJST 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive had col­ leced a total of $8,752.85 - enough for 17 additional scholarships. "The drive has been extended through the end of January to provide additional scholarships during the SPJST's centennial year," says State Fraternal Activities Coordinator Frank Klinkovsky, who is coordinating the fund-raising effort. "The Scholarship Program received some wonderful surprises in conjunction with this year's fund-raising efforts," he says. In October, the SPJST was noti­ fied that Cindy Marek Kovar, a member

of Lodge 174, Rockdale was the grand prize winner in the Sixth Annual Newman 's Own and Good Housekeeping Recipe Contest. As grand prize winner, Cindy received a $50,000 prize to donate to her chosen charity. A longtime active member, she designated her $50,000 donation to the SPJST's Scholarship Program. In December, the Scholarship Program received a gift of $10,000 from Mr. and Mrs. Myles Marek of Baytown, Texas. "These large gifts, combined with the hundreds bf smaller donations, will go a long way towards helping our deserving (Continued on page 3.)
