Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Lanita Anglin and her husband, Charles; District Three Director and Supreme Lodge Chairman Sid Pokladnik; and District Seven Director Bob Bayer and his wife, Polly, were among the 812 delegates and guests who attended the 110th annual meeting of the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) held September 25 28 at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee. The NFCA is the trade association representing nearly 100 fraternal benefit societies that provide insurance and volunteer opportunities to 10 million members in the United States and Canada. "It was a wonderful meeting," stated Secretary-Treasurer Anglin. Especially noteworthy, she says, were panel discus-
Their two daughters are Evelyn B. Stegall of Bryan, Texas, and Cecelia B. Chuoke of Dallas, Texas. Evelyn married James W. Stegall and Cecelia married Robert L. Chuoke, who is now deceased. Vlasta and Joe farmed and ranched at Wheelock, Texas. Joe passed away in 1969. Evelyn Stegall characterized her mother as a "wonderful housewife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother." "She's also a great cook," said Evelyn. "Hers are the best kolaches ever made." In addition to her cooking, Vlasta enjoys doing handiwork projects, such as quilts and afghans. Strong in her faith, Vlasta is a member of United Methodist Church. Sister Blazek, who has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, resides at Crestview Methodist Retirement Community in Bryan, Texas. Once again, the SPJST congratulates Sister Blazek for achieving the Grand Age of 96.
Veterans' Day November 11, 1996
The story of war is the story of everyday men and women and the sacrifices that they have made to defend our flag. Monday, November 11 is Veterans' Day. May we be ever mindful of the sacrifices made by our brothers and sisters in uniform. They have served their country well and we owe them our gratitude and thanks.

sions addressing topics ranging from investments and insurance to communications and activating inactive lodges. Convention attendees heard from several speakers, among them, Sen. Orrin Hatch, R - Utah, who addressed the congress on major issues facing Americans. President Clinton also sent his greetings to convention attendees and saluted their fraternalism by saying, "If we are to make our world a better place, each of us must take responsibility for solving the problems around us. Your efforts are helping to strengthen families and communities and set an example of compassion across America and around the world," Clinton said. "Overall, it was a very enlightening experience," observed Sister Anglin. "And — just as important,—" she added, "— it was a good chance to meet with representatives from other fraternals and with the various exhibitors who provide services for fraternal benefit societies such as ours." —SPJST-
Statewide seminars provide continuing education for lodge sales representatives More than 150 SPJST sales representatives attended the recent sales seminars conducted throughout various parts of the state. In addition to sales representatives, lodge presidents and district presidents were invited to attend. With the start of the Olympics '96 Membership Drive, it was important that lodge and district presidents be aware of the potential success the membership drive has to offer their lodges. This also „gave lodge presidents the opportunity to see the many challenges facing our sales representatives as they continue to do their part for the SPJST by adding new members to the organization. Lodge presidents were recognized for having a key role in lodge growth and sales and we wish to thank them for attending and sharing their ideas with us to help make our jobs easier. This forum all gave the State Field Representatives an excellent opportunity to present information on the Olympics
'96 Membership Drive benefitting the lodges, members, and sales representatives — definitely a "win-win" situation. The State Field Representatives stressed the importance of the Lodge Recognition and Incentive Program. With the end of the year fast approaching, emphasis was placed on the need to get those new members "on the books" before the deadlines for both programs. Other topics discussed were the sales incentive available to sales representatives and update on underwriting guidelines. Thanks to all lodge and district presidents and sales representatives for making the Fall 1996 Seminars a success for everyone! Please see the accompanying photos which begin on page 4.
