Czech Heritage Week set for October 20-26 October 20 to 26 is Czech Heritage Week in Texas. Thanks to Sister Janice Lindemann Swope for submitting the following article. Janice is chairperson of the TO. CA (Texans of Czech Ancestry) Czech Heritage Week Committee.

W. a few weeks, Czech v Texans will observe "Czech Heritage Week" for the second year. If Czech groups have not begun to make plans for this observance, now is the time to begin! In our planning, we must remember the intent of the resolution as presented to the Legislature by Judge Janacek of LaGrange. Several members of the Travis-Williamson Counties Czech Heritage Societ y, along with Dr. Eva Rubalova of Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, also testified on behalf of the passage of this resolution which declared the last full week in October as "Czech Heritage

Week." The intent of the resolution is to preserve Czech heritage by involving children in learning about Czech ethnicity and culture. When children are participating in activities where they are learning about Czech language, traditions, music and dance, culture, and the arts, their parents' involvement is almost guaranteed. Local schools are encouraged to participate in commemorating this special week by including in their curriculum the study of Czech history, culture, music, dance, customs, traditions, and language. Czech groups can volunteer to assist the schools by being guest speakers, by providing samples of Czech food, by providing material for a Czech exhibit in the school library, by singing Czech songs, to name a few ways. In addition to parental involvement, communities can also join together with Czech fraternal, church groups, and other groups in planning Czech activities for-

Lodge 189, Bryan - College Station Golf Tournament Scores Big

Members of Lodge 189, Bryan - College Station hosted their ;`,rst-ever golf tournament on Sunday, September 22 at Hilltop Lakes Resort. A total of 32 two-man teams played in the tournament which generated a $300 gift to the Hilltop Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. Waylon is a member of Lodge 66, Waco and a graduate of LaVega High School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger D. Easter and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Preston Dennis Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Marion Boatman. Waylon plans to purse a career in Physical Education.

Daniel is a lifelong member of Lodge 88, Houston and a graduate of Splendora High School. He is the son of Jerry and Georgia Forbes and the grandson of Joe and Georgia Zaludek. Daniel plans to attend Kingwood Junior College in January.

Christopher is a member of Lodge 88, Houston and a graduate of B.T. Washington High School. He is the son of Leonard and Mary Jo Zalesky and the grandson of Mary and Cyril Zalesky and Ignatius Milder and Frances McAlpine. Christopher is attending Rice University where he is majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Chris is a member of Lodge 84, Dallas, and a graduate of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas. He is the son of Ron and Linda Coker. An Eagle Scout, Chris graduated with honors and placed fifth in State in wrestling, receiving academic recognition in the sport. Chris is attending Texas A&M University where he is majoring in Engineering.
