A Night to Remember

Young members build close ties at first state "lock-in" Believe and succeed . . The only thing that stands between a person and what they want from life is merely the will to try it and faith to believe that it is possible. What a night! On March 9, over 187 youth club members, youth leaders and parents met their friends from across the state to enjoy a night of fun at the first annual SPJST State Youth Lock-In in Temple. Among the activities everyone

participated in were karaoke, basketball, crafts, pool, air hockey, fooseball, dancing, movies, ping-pong, and various board and card games. I would like to thank everyone who volunteered their time and expertise to make this dream a reality. Without your hard work and commitment to the youth of our society, there would have been no lock-in. I would like to extend a special thankyou to the following: District Two

Youth Counselor Patsy Koslovsky for coordinating and supervising the craft session; District Three Youth Counselor Bessie Petr for the outstanding snacks; Gladys Yates for serving as our nurse; E.J. Bender for serving as our medic; our door guards, E.J. Bender and Jodie McAdams; and last but not least, all of our district youth counselors, assistant youth counselors, youth leaders, and chaperones who did everything from helping with crafts to mopping the floor. Our volunteers are what make SPJST the best! I would also like to thank the Ralph Wilson Youth Clubs for allowing us to use their facility. The accommodations were perfect, and we look forward to working with them again next year. We are off to a great start, and next year promises to be even bigger and better. I can't wait! See you there! Fraternally, Joni Lange State Youth Director SPJST

Mother Knows Best When it comes to having a dependable chaperone, moms are at the top of the list. Pictured, standing at right, is mom Brenda Wolf. who was assisting with one of the craft sessions. Looking on, from left, are Rena Greger of Lodge 24, Cyclone, and daughter Brandi Wolf, of Lodge 177, Academy

Guess you could call it kind of a "late night pool party?" Pictured, from left, are Courtney Wagner of Lodge 177, Academy; Mandy Staff of Lodge 30, Taiton; and Tiffany Wolf and 'Crystal Dawson, both of Lodge 177, Academy.

There was a time and a place for everything — even a little sleep — at the first annual SPJST Statewide Lock-In held March 9 at the Ralph Wilson Youth Club in Temple. Pictured above, young people wind down after an evening of fun and games. The event attracted nearly 200 SPJST youth club members from around the state.

Old friends making new friends — that's what it was all about. Pictured here, from left are Lodge 24, Cyclone members Desi Cooksey, Tammy Baker, Ryan Greger and April Cooksey, joined by friends Becky Treat of Lodge 182, Falls County and Lee Betek of Lodge 187, Round Rock.
