The People Make the Difference One of the best things about working for SPJST is the people. Being editorlike any job--has its highs and lows.

Over the last four years, one of the real highs has been getting to know and work with the members. In a lot of ways, it has been your positive feedback, constructive criticism-and your enthusi asm-that has kept me optimistic about the future of the SPJST . . . One fellow who has certainly helped me along is Brother Dan Balusek of Cameron.

Brother Balusek, who is a member of Lodge 47, Seaton, is also Chairman of the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home Committee.

I had the opportunity to visit with Brother Balusek this past week. During our conversation, he kindly suggested that the Vestnik share a little bit of information with the readers on the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes in Taylor and Needville.

"There's a lot of folks out there who need to be informed about the rest homes," Brother Balusek stated. "Our rest home directors got together a couple of weeks ago to discuss business and agreed that we need to `get the word out' to the members.

"There's been rumors floating about selling the rest homes. And, quite frankly, we don 't plan to do that. We want to reassure our guests, administra tors, and the general membership that we're in this project for the 'long haul,'" he stated.

Speaking from experience. I can tell you that there is something extraordinary and special about the S.P.J.S.T. rest homes. On my way to a District Two Fall Meeting at Lodge 29, Taylor, several years ago, I got lost during a downpour and ended up at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home instead. "What luck, - I thought.

"If anyone knows how to get to the hall, someone here will." I must say, I did receive some good directions. I was even more impressed by what I saw and what I heard in those few minutes.

There was something very pleasant and hospitable about the home. Maybe it had something to do with the polka music playing in the dayroom; or, maybe it was the courteous way the attendant greeted me ...

"The whole idea is to run the homes for the comfort of the individual guests," says Brother Balusek. "We want each guest to feel that this is their home."

In addition to receiving first-rate care and accommodations, residents can participate in a variety of social and exercise activities, including horseshoes, bingo, novies and regularly scheduled performances by area musicians and choirs.

SPJST choral groups and youth groups frequently present performances for residents of the two homes.

The idea to build the rest home, Brother Balusek explains, was initiated

at the SPJST's 1956 convention in Temple. "SPJST members saw a real need to build a home - in purpose and in spirit - for some of its aging members and some of the older members of the community," he explains. "So, they authorized the creation and organization of a self-governing and independent corporation and granted $100,000 to this purpose," he continues.

To this day, the management of the home rests in the hands of seven S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home directors - one elected from each district. "As a tribute to our rest home management team, the homes are in excellent financial condition," Balusek says.

In accordance with the rest home's bylaws, new guests are admitted on a firstcome, first-served basis. As stated in the home's by-laws, "Every application made by members of the Order for admittance to the Home shall be taken into consideration, but it shall in no case be made the basis of any preference on account of membership in the SPJST." "That's important to know," advises Brother Balusek. "I would encourage SPJST members interested in becoming a part of our community to visit the rest homes in Taylor or Needville, or write or call the administrators. That will get you on the waiting list and put you in a better position to check in some day. It's really never too early to get on the list."

Both meetings start at 8 a.m.

Those members interested in submitting by-law changes or recommendations for consideration to the June convention in Arlington should do so as early as possible. All changes or recommendations must be postmarked and submitted to the committee 60 days prior to the convention which is April 10, 1996.

Around the Districts Bob Miracle Announces Candidacy for District Two Director To the Delegates of District Two: I would like to officially announce my candidacy for District Two Director of SPJST. I would like to introduce myself. I am Bob Miracle, president of Lodge 200, Bruceville-Eddy, and I am married to Jane Crawshaw Miracle. I am a charter member of SPJST Lodge 200 and was instrumental in the organization and chartering of Lodge 200 in 1992. I have served as its president and also a sales representative since the lodge's organization. Under my leadership, I feel our lodge has been successful in the incentive program, membership growth and other district and state programs. I have supported the youth and scholarship programs and insurance products.

I feel that I have the qualifications to be your District Two Director. I have owned and operated my own business for over 18 years. I attended Baylor University majoring in physical education. I have served and worked in many volunteer community organizations.

I have acquired a great interest in SPJST since becoming involved in local, district and state functions. My wish is to represent District Two to the best of my ability. I understand that sometimes this will be a difficult job because decisions affecting sales representatives, Home Office person-

Kubala Watkins Announces Candidacy for District Three Director Sherrie

Dear Members and Delegates, Through your fraternal support and confidence, many of you have inspired me to make this announcement. It is my enthusiastic and sincere desire to be your District Three Director.

There have been a multitude of rich experiences for me growing up in the SPJST. Fondly, I remember the large youth club where I was an active member at Lodge 92. There, I was empowered with self-confidence, strong individual principles, and a foundation for my future involvement in SPJST. Leaders such as my parents, Albert and Helen Kubala, Bessie Petr, and Sid Pokladnik encouraged and enriched me with a pride for my Czech heritage that I hope to pass on to my daughter's generation.

These role models taught me that the past is the key to the future. It is my desire to put my strengths in motion for the benefit of SPJST. I have developed management skills in both executive and volunteer positions for corporations, church and civic communities and my own entrepreneurship.

My background in commercial and residential real estate gives me insight over today's market and what the consumer is looking for. The executive positions I have held in manufacturing and my leadership roles in volunteer work have fine-tuned my listening and delegating skills. In the past several years, my work with the SPJST youth has been a delightful, educational experience that has given me a channel to give back some of the positive things I experienced as a youth.

Bob Bayer Announces Candidacy for District Seven Director To the Delegates and Members of District Seven SPJST: I wish to announce my candidacy for re-election as your representative on the Board of Directors.

The past four years have been very good to me. I have made many new friends and renewed many old friendships.

We have lost some very dear friends in District Seven and will miss each and every one of them. I have enjoyed visiting the lodges and membership of District Seven. My wife, Polly, and I would like to thank each and every one of you for the true fraternalism and comradeship shown to us on our visits. I have retired as of September, 1995, and I am now more readily available to serve SPJST and District Seven.

SPJST is a fraternal benefit insurance society. I believe in visiting the lodges and members and taking their ideas or questions hack to the board meeting and discussing them. It is hard to state your position on issues without knowing all the facts or background. You must look at both sides of the issue before making a decision.

We are a growing society and this is being done by introducing new products and incentive programs for our members and lodges. I must praise all of our sales people for their diligent work for the past four years. Insurance sales have been excellent in 1995. It was a bumper year for Distric(Seven, selling over $5 million in sales. I would like to congratulate the lodges that won incentive awards and to

We have merged two lodges that were dormant for a few years and they are active today. This is something that I have been working on for 20 years and I am happy to see that it is working.

Again, I would like to say thank you for the past four years of serving you as your District Seven Director. If the delegates and membership of District Seven see fit to elect me as their District Seven Director, I will serve you diligently, wisely, fairly and serve all equally.

Resolution of Respect WHEREAS, the Supreme Lodge and the SPJST membership was saddened to learn of the death' of Ben M. Zabcik, past Financial Secretary, of the SPJST; and WHEREAS, Brother Zabcik left surviving him to mourn his departure, his wife, Regina, his daughters, Barbara A. Jive grandchildren, a host of relatiVes, friends and neighbors, all of whom, with all the mourners of the Supreme Lodge SPJST, mourn his departure; and, WHEREAS, the members of the Supreme Lodge SPJST desire to record their sorrow at the death on February 18, 1996, of Brother Zabcik, who had worked harmoniously and diligently for the good of the Society and served as Financial Secretary of Supreme Lodge SPJST from January 1, 1961, until December 31, 1976.

Her father was the late Joe Slovacek and her mother was Mary Holan, both from Czechoslovakia.

Sister Holubec, who says she enjoys the loving care provided by the facility, will be profiled in the 1996 SPJST Convention Brochure.

From the President's Office SPJST Twelfth Annual State 42 Tournament This Saturday at Lodge 29, Taylor The State 42 Domino Tournament will be held this Saturday, March 23 at SPJST Lodge 29, Taylor. The hall is located on Llighway 619, one mile east of Taylor.

This tournament is limited to SPJST aembers. You must have a partner.

There is no limit to the number of teams per lodge. So all you have to do is register with the State Fraternal Activities Coordinator at (817) 773-1575. You still have time to register until Friday, March 22 at noon.

There is a cost of $6 per person which

includes the noon meal and snacks.

Lodge 18, Elgin Reports on February Meeting President Dollie Hajda opened the February 20, 1996, meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a silent prayer.

Agnes Eschberger read the minutes which were approved. Agnes Rupp gave the treasurer's report. Evelyn Gustafson discussed the district meeting coming up on March 17. Youth Leader Ruby Bowen was absent due to illness. Get well, Ruby. We missed you.

Ben, Andrew and Alex of the Audit Committee reported the books were in great shape. We passed with flying colors. Alice, you did a great job. Thank you!

Evelyn Gustafson asked for our activities sheets so she can send in her report.

This is very important. In order to keep our charity status, we must report our donations of time, food and money. We do a lot for our community, friends and churches. Please keep a record for next year. You might be surprised at how much you really give of yourself.

George Liardon reported that we have collected about $200 more in membership fees since we raised the dues. Good deal, Goerge! Keep us informed.

Agnes Eschberger read a very emotional letter from the daughters of Johnnie Hajda thanking the lodge and friends for all the support and prayers given to them during this very difficult time.

We received a bill from the air conditioning company for changing the filters.

Our sacks and Arthur had just changed them. Since the contract was cancelled and they came in without approval and changed filters, we should not pay them.

We pay ASC'AP and BMI dues. We feel that we should pay just one. Agnes Rupp will get more information. If she is unable to get information, we might need a committee to find out what is going on.

We got a letter from the Elgin Basketball Association asking for donations. This was tabled as we just paid taxes, dues and bills. Funds are a little tight at the first of the year.

SPJST did real well on the scholarship fund. We went well over the $12,000 goal. The last count was over $16,000.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

Irene reported that the hall is booked pretty solid for 1996. Remember, she will need help! Gladys is moving to Burnet so we will need help to assist her.

It's going to be strange not to see her in the ticket booth on Sundays.

Jack was appointed to help Irene and Gladys. Anyone interested in working the ticket booth is asked to call Irene.

All help will be appreciated. Irene also reported that when we have the Sweet Fifteen parties, a lot of young people drink beer as the kegs flow freely and pitchers are on the tables. The young children just help themselves. A motion was made and carried that the kegs will not be allowed at these functions. Artie reported that some of the bands are raising their prices.

TABC training school is coming up.

We will see if someone can go to it to keep up with the changing laws.

The officers' workshop on Saturday, February 24 was to be attended by 11 members. We were encouraged to attend whenever we could. My husband and I attended last year in Temple and we real-

ly enjoyed it. We learned a lot about SPJST. Changing of the locks was brought up.

We are looking at about $400. Why do we need to change? The building has been left unlocked several times and we do not know who left it because we do not know who has keys. This could be a big problem.

A thank-you note was sent to Wansley Refrigeration. Sacks, Arthur and Alex repaired one of the drink boxes and they gave them the parts free. Thank you, Sacks, Arthur and Alex for doing the work free, also.

The District meeting is coming up on March 17. Sharon Holman and Patsy Koslovsky came to let us know what to expect. The election of officers, Mr. and Miss SPJST, Little Mr. and Miss SPJST and the convention coming in June are on the agenda. The meeting should last about four hours with the meal served right after the meeting, around 5 p.m.

Sharon praised us for having a non-smoking building. Many people with health problems can enjoy dancing in a smokefree dance hall. Johnny will be in charge of the meal for the district meeting. Any help will be appreciated.

We now have an ice machine. Thanks to Service Specialists Company from Austin, who donated the machine.

It was brought up that we should sell the pool table in the youth room. Anyone interested should give us a call. We now have the SPJST Memorial. You can send donations to Mildred David at 729 Cedar Rock Court in Lakeway, Texas 78734.

Lodge 24, Cyclone Reports on March Meeting Dear Members, A few years ago, I was reporter for our lodge. I was again elected to this position. I am glad the membership entrusted this job to me again. I will do my best in reporting our lodge activities.

Our last meeting was called to order

by President Bobby Hoelscher. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and remained standing in a moment of silence in memory of our deceased members, especially Brother Ben Zabcik who a few years ago served our lodge as financial secretary for 26 years.

On the sick list is Sister Willie Mae Vanicek.

Secretary Barbara Macek then read the minutes from the February meeting which were approved as read.

Reports were given by Treasurer Penny Coots, Bar Chairman Rosamond Baker and Booking Chairman Louise Zavodny. Then, Board Secretary Brian Vanicek read the Board report.

We voted to accept new members Teresa Marie Ritchie, Jon M. Lawrence and Ashley Nicole Snow. We are glad to have you as part of our membership and invite you and your family to come and join us at our meetings and activities.

Our main topic of this meeting was our Mother's Day meal which will be on Sunday, May 12, 1996. Bring your mothers out and enjoy the meal at the hall or you can take out plates which will be

Birthday celebrants in March are Doris Coots, Scott Hudson, Robert Macek, Lorene Haisler and Nikki Nejtek.

March anniversary celebrants are Joe and Bernice Sebek, which is my husband and I. There was a District Two delegates meeting at our hall on Monday, March 11. We had a nice turnout. We thank the Supreme Lodge Officers and the people that are running for officers. It was interesting and informative.

Door prizes were won by Bobby Hoelscher, Barbara Macek, Arleen Mayeux and Rhonda Greger.

Please note the time change for our meetings. We decided to go back to Monday nights for our monthly meetings.

However, due to another District Two meeting on the second Monday in April, we will have our meeting on Monday, April 15, the third Monday. Hope to see a lot of you at our meeting and hopefully, we will have some rain by then. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and snacks will he served afterwards.

51, Ellinger Hosts Dinner for Members

The Ellinger SPJST Lodge 51 held a dinner for members and their families on February 18 at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall with a large attendance.

Among those present were Director and Mrs. Andrew Vavra of Caldwell.

Refreshments were served at 12 noon.

At 12:30 p.m., the meal consisting of barbecued chicken, prepared by Calvin Hlinsky and Gilbert Henneke, and many side dishes brought by members was served. Mrs. Willie Mae Koehl asked the blessing before the meal.

Ludwig Kocian, president, called the meeting to order. John Mikulenka, secre-

tary, read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave the treasurer's report, which were accepted.

A moment of silence was held for those departed.

The presentation of the 50-year pins was then held. Those earning the pins were Harry Lee Cook, Edna Urban, Jeanette Kocurek, and Gladys Urban.

Mr. Vavra presented the pins to Mr. Cook and Edna Urban, who were present.

He then gave a report on the insurance with the members also taking part in the discussion.

Everyone enjoyed the meal and the meeting and are looking forward to the next one which will be announced later.

92, Fort Worth Reports on March 11 Meeting

Dear Members and Friends, Our lodge meeting as all other lodges started with the Pledge of Allegiance with the youth club leading the membership.

After starting the meeting, President Kubala expressed his thanks to all the committees that work with the lodge and he stated that anything you do for the lodge, you do it with great pride. This is what makes you know what fraternal work does in a lodge. Always remember to try to help organizations such as our SPJST grow as our parents did when the SPJST was started. I only wish and hope that the founders of these lodges could see what they started and what has been kept up by all of us all these years. Just think what the first organizers thought when, they started the SPJST. It was started to help members with the loss of a loved one. So today it has been kept up.

All sales representatives are trying to help you buy some insurance to help when there is a death. This is really what insurance is about. So all of us need to help our sales representatives secure new

members and also to increase some of the older policies. Long ago, there was not much money so small policies were written. So now is the time to upgrade your policy.

All officers gave nice reports and brought up plans for the future such as our Czech Heritage Day that will be in September. Mother's Day in May was also brought up. All members would bring a covered dish of a vegetable or pastry. The lodge will furnish the meal.

On April 14, the regular lodge meeting will start one hour earlier. This is due to the Easter egg hunt, beer hunt and a dance afterwards. There will be the annual egg hunt for the children and later the cans of beer for the adults (the rabbit would have a hard time laying a can of beer, but they will be there to find). After the egg and beer hunt, the dance will start at 4 p.m. Music will be by the Sulak Band from Ennis. The Sulak Band plays different types of music—polkas, waltzes, fun dances like the chicken dance, and some country music.

I would like to let you know that Brother Rudolph Wrubble is in the All Saints Hospital. He has had several hip operations and now some type of infection has set in. So he is in much pain.

Rudy, we pray that you will feel much better soon.

One of our members, Sister Billie Jo Waters is being sent to Bosnia. She has been overseas for several years so be careful and stay safe. She works for the government.

I want to thank Frank Prochaska for the nice thing about me and the letters and jokes in the Vesmik So the members gave me a nice applause.

Again, the next dance is April 14 with the Sulak Band. On April 28 is a country/western dance with Jerry Pierce Band. Keep in touch with our lodge dances and other activities in the calendar section of the Vestnik.

I would like to remind all of you and other lodges that there will be a convention book that will be for ads, memorials and well-wishers. So if you would like to have your lodge in the souvenir book, let me or someone on the committee know.

135, Ennis Reports on Member Activities Lodge

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Congratulations to our membership upon receipt of the First Step Award at the recent SPJST Banquet. We are proud of you! Sister Evelyn Novotny, Brother Larry Laznovsky, and Brother and Sister Jerry and Agnes Chudej attended the workshop. Brother and Sister Chudej stayed for the banquet, while the others had to return to Ennis earlier because of other obligations that day.

Twelve of our members got together last Sunday and ate out together. This has been a popular social for us. We select a local restaurant and go "dutch treat." As I have mentioned before, if you are not able to attend our meetings, but would like to join us when we eat out, call an officer and we will be sure to let you know the next time we get together!

Congratulations to Brother Ryan Mullican, son of Sister Mayfair Mullican, for his excellent performance in the musical "Oklahoma" presented by the performing group from Navarro College in Corsicana. He is very talented and is "tops" with our lodge and at Sokol. He teaches our boys' classes at Sokol.

Several of our members attended the opening night performance to cheer him on!

Remember, our meetings are held at the Sokol on the third Thursday of the month, currently at 7 p.m. Once, we get to Daylight Savings Time, the meeting time will change.

We would like to advise all lodges of the plans for the Southern District Slet which will be hosted by Sokol Karel Havlicek Borovsky at the Sokol in Ennis.

The dates are May 31, June 1, and June 2.

The Slet exhibition will be held inside the spacious Sokol Activity Center. Monthly bulletins on Slet plans, lodging information, etc. are being mailed to the Sokol units. A Merging of Ideas

There was a discussion of points to be considered at the convention, as printed in the Vestnik.

Vice President Monte Baldwin announced that the Danbury Little League still needed a team sponsor. It was voted to sponsor the Minor League Cardinals. The lodge will buy the team uniforms which will have the SPJST logo on the backs.

Sister Lorenda reported on the workshop she attended at the Seaton SPJST Hall and the following presentation of awards and banquet at the Cyclone SPJST Hall on February 24. She stated the speaker, Linda Woodbury, captivated her audience with her excellent and highly informative presentation "Turning Obstacles into Opportunities."

At the awards presentation, Lorenda received an award for being one of the winning SPJST sales representatives in 1995. Also, she accepted the silver award plaque which was earned by Lodge 139 for fulfilling the requirements in the incentive program. The plaque was on hand for the members to admire at the meeting.

Sister Lorenda gave a report on the Publication Committee meeting that she attended in Temple on April 2.

It is time again for the Lodge 139 high school seniors to apply for the lodge scholarship. To qualify, the applicant must have been a member of SPJST since his/her freshman year and must be a member of Lodge 139, but may attend school elsewhere. Scholastically, the student must be in the top 15 percent of his/her class. The applications must be received by May 1, 1996.

To apply for the scholarship the graduate must have the school counselor write a letter stating the grade point average of the applicant. The letter and application should be mailed to: Lorenda Baldwin Route Seven, Box 15 Alvin, Texas 77511 Before adjourning, "Happy Birthday" was sung to David Baldwin and Monte Baldwin. 154, Fort Worth Reports on March Meeting

Dear Members and Friends, Our meeting on Sunday, March 10 was called to order by our president Brother Jerry Milan. He led us to the Pledge of Allegiance and we remained standing for a moment'of silence for our deceased Brother Charlie Janecka, Marie Tichapad, grandmother of Sister Mila Milan (Sister Miia is still in Canada), and Joseph Ulsh, Jr., the father of Sister Bonnie Steinman. May they rest in peace.

Brother Talon Milan, sisters Jeanie Mason and Mary Renfro received letters from Brother Kucera where they made a 100 on their reports.

Congratulations went out to our Sales Representatives for receiving the bronze award. They plan on trying for the gold.

Brother Milan read the financial secretary's report as Sister Renfro's eyes were not back to normal then. But now since her laser treatment, she is back and happy. Her reports and Sister Anna Johnson's treasurer's report were approved.

Brother Milan gave a good report on the workshop. They all enjoyed it and the raves that were said about speaker Linda Woodbury, who is blind and did such a good job. Sister Rose Steinman also reported on the great workshop meeting.

We were asked to watch for the bylaws.

The 40- to 50-mph north wind that blew in early Thursday, March 7 did not keep 29 members and two guests from attending our monthly meeting. Seems like fresh northers have picked the first Thursday of each month to hit our area this year. Hopefully, this is the last one.

Our guests were Louise Mokry, sisterin-law of Marcellina Mokry, and Karen Budinger, niece of Milly Elzner. Karen of Cleveland, Ohio, is visiting Milly along with her parents from Oil City, Pennsylvania. Since husband Jerry left March 4 for a month's stay in the Czech Republic, Milly welcomed the company of her sister and family.

We had just finished the business part of our meeting and talked of canceling our plans for a wildflower viewing trip due to Jerry's trip to the Czech Republic (he is our driver) when the phone rang and I happened to answer. Imagine my surprise to hear Jerry Elzner's voice and then Mrs. Brdicka sending greetings to our group from Prague. Mrs. Brdicka was a guest last August when she was visiting with the Elzners. The Officers and Trustees of Lodge 177, Academy

smiles and we listened to Milly talking to Jerry until they were cut off. Their daughter, Marsha, and Evelyn Papasan, our newest member, are leaving March 11 to join Jerry for the rest of his stay in the Czech Republic. We know they will have a great time.

We were all saddened to hear Georgia Ann Kubala suffered a heart attack earlier in the week. She was still in ICU at Spohn Hospital and scheduled for a triple by-pass the afternoon of our meeting. I am happy to report that this'morning she was transferred to Room 9208 at Spohn and is doing well. A get-well card was passed around for our signatures.

Rose Huff sent greetings by Lil Hruska and wished to thank all the members for their kindness after last month's accident. Her absence was due to minor foot surgery from which we wish her a speedy recovery.

Norma Baker passed out a new membership address and telephone list. We appreciate all of Norma's efforts in preparing the list and also for having our meeting room ready each meeting.

Without members like Norma our Krouzek could not exist.

tures from our January meeting. She also brought a receipt from the Women's Shelter for our donations she delivered.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to Marion Peterek, Velma Malchar and Helen Kasparek who were all present. It was good to see Velma again after she had missed several meetings.

After our drawing for prizes and a delicious luncheon, most of the ladies stayed to decorate Easter baskets. It was fun using the colorful ribbons and with the pipe cleaner handles the results were quite pretty. Filled with Easter grass and candy, I am sure the rest home residents will enjoy them.

Some of us will meet again here at Sokol on Saturday, March 30 for the gymnast's spaghetti dinner and a drawing for a VCR. This fund raiser is being held to help send our gymnasts to the Sokol Slet to be held in Ennis the first week in June. Dinner will be served from 12:30 to 2 p.m. with a program at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are only $4 and include a chance for the drawing. Come and support the Sokol youngsters.

Golden Wedding Anniversary Tony and Ruth Fenack celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, November 18, 1995, with a luncheon at their home in Seguin, Texas.

Hosting the luncheon were their son, Wayne, and daughter-in-law, Ida, grandchildren, Amy Fenack and Andy Fenack of San Antonio, and stepgrandson, Josh of El Paso.

Mr. Fenack and the former Ruth Blaha Fenack were married in Houston

in 1945. There were 80 guests present including Sisters Evelyn Beckner of Houston and Bessie Krenek of Danbury.

Close friends and relatives made the celebration a great joy. Special guests were Carlos Yearwood, Tony's Army buddy; Glen Wingo, a rodeo friend that Tony rodeoed with for many years; and Margaret and Travis Mitchell, the Fenack's first neighbors in Houston.

Funeral services for Sophie Millie Jochec, 74, of East Bernard, were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 11 from Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Gerard Cernoch officiating. Interment followed in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. A wake service was held at 8 p.m. Saturday, February 10 at Davis Funeral Home in East Bernard.

Mrs. Jochec died February 9, 1996, in Wharton. She was born November 27, 1921, in Smithville to John and Sophie Polasek Hanzelka.

Mrs. Jochec was a member of SPJST Lodge 28 for 48 years.

Survivors include her husband, Rudolph Jochec of East Bernard; daughter and son-in-law Georgia and Floyd Marsalia of Eagle Lake; son Johnnie Jochec of East Bernard; sisters Agnes Polasek of East Bernard, Helen Olson of East Bernard, Justina Jochec of East Bernard and Louise Kovar of Rosenberg; brothers Victor Hanzelka of East Bernard and Julius Hanzelka of Richmond; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Annie Karasek, and brother Johnny Hanzelka.

Funeral services were held on February 10, 1996, from the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Industry, Texas, with Rev. Roger Duffy celebrating the Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal.

Knights of Columbus Rosary, led by Deacon Frank Laredo, was held at the Knesek Brothers/Etlinger Funeral Chapel on February 9, 1996, followed by the Parish Vigil Wake Service, led by Rev. Bernard Snock. Interment was in the Immaculate 'Conception Catholic Cemetery of Industry.

Mr. Janosky was born on October 22, 1908, in Nelsonville, Texas, to Joseph and Mary (Kunz) Janosky.

He was raised in Nelsonville and attended Scraton Grove School and Immaculate Conception School in Sealy.

On March 5, 1935, he was married to Goldie Huff in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy. He was a member of the BleiblervilleNelsonville SPJST Lodge 201.

He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Goldie Janosky of Nelsonville; his daughter, Jenelle Ashorn of Nelsonville; grandson Dixon and wife Karen Ashorn of Bellville; two greatgrandsons of Bellville; and one sister-inlaw, Loraine Janosky of Tomball, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services were under the direction of Knesek Brothers/Etlinger Funeral Chapel of Bellville. May our departed brother rest in peace.

We, the members of Lodge 24, Cyclone, wish to express our most sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family of HENRY ADAMEK. Mr. Adamek, 77, of San Angelo and formerly of Temple died Sunday, September 3, 1995, at Baptist Memorial Geriatric Center in San Angelo.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 5 at Johnson's Funeral Home in San Angelo with the Rev. Tommy Tallas officiating.

Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Adamek was born in Temple and married Levie Martinek in 1941 in Ocker.

He was a jeweler at Myers Drug Store for 27 years. He was a charter member of Carlsbad Masonic Lodge No. 1415 and a member of 1260 in San Angelo. He was a member of the Wall Brethren Church and a member of SPJST Lodge 24, Cyclone. He had been a resident of San Angelo since 1946.

Survivors are his wife, Levie Adamek of San Angelo; and two brothers, Jerry -

of Sympathy We, the officers and members of SPJST Lodge 82, Ennis, express our sympathy to the family of WILLIE L. TROJACEK. Mr. Trojacek, 80, died Thursday night, November 23, 1995, at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

Funeral services for Mr. Trojacek were held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27 in the St. John Catholic Church with Father Fred Silder as celebrant. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary with the following serving as pallbearers: David Cepak, Chris Rejcek, Michael Trojacek, John Trojacek, Russell Trojacek, Christopher Ludwig, Craig Trojacek, Kaleb Trojacek and Seth Trojacek.

He was born May 21, 1915, in Telico, the son of Anton and Frances Vrla Trojacek. He was reared in Telico. After finishing school he worked on the family farm before entering the United States Army during World War II. He was a tank commander in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars. On October 16, 1945, he was married to Viola Honza of Ennis. After their marriage, they lived in Telico where he farmed and was employed by Leggett and Platt, Inc. as a foreman. He was a member of the St. John Catholic Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the RVOS, and SPJST Lodge 82 of which he served as president.

Mr. Trojacek is survived by his wife, Viola of Ennis; six sons, Marvin, Robert, James, Henry Trojacek, all of Telico, Ernest Trojacek of Ennis and Willie Trojacek of Pottsboro, Texas; three daughters, Evelyn Cepak of Mesquite, Dolores Rejcek of Garrett and Barbara Ludwig of Ennis; four brothers, Leslie, Adolph, Jerry and Otto Trojacek, all of Ennis; and two sisters, Janie Vrana and Albina Schubrick, both of Ennis. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One great-grandson Braden Cepak preceded him in death on January 22, 1988.

Lodge

Lodge 107, Floresville Youth Club held its monthly meeting on March 10, 1996. The meeting was called to order

by President Jolene Spillers. We discussed an Easter egg hunt to be held at our April meeting and a bake sale for a fund raiser in the near future.

Everyone was too excited to sit still, so the meeting was adjourned and we all packed into cars and drove to San Antonio to go ice skating. We had a total of six youth and two adults skating at the Ice Palace. A frigid, good time was enjoyed by all.

After two hours of skating, we went to McDonald's to eat and play in the jungle gym. We all had a nice, quiet ride home (almost everyone went to sleep).

The next meeting will be April 14, 1996, at 4:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
